I think these people are nutty ---whether you believe in mandates or not, this is not the way to deal with it.

Replying to myself. Update: Word is getting out on social media that police are attempting to disperse the truckers, so more people are gathering to support the protesters. WWJ radio announced a few hours ago that the blockade was ending and that the bridge would soon reopen. Doesn't look like that's the case.

Windsor — The vehicles are gone but protesters continue to linger at the Ambassador Bridge Saturday, keeping it closed for a fifth day.

The demonstrators on foot continued to grow as they were joined by new ones through the morning and early afternoon. What began as several dozen grew to several hundred, nearly the size of the Canadian police on scene.

Dozens of police, forming a line, steadily pushed the protesters away from the bridge and onto nearby streets at 3:30 p.m. Windsor police said they didn't know when the bridge will reopen...

Well, yes, mostly like that. It was really rather a Canadian style protest where the police came along after a while and asked the protesters to go home.

There were no shootings and no cars were set on fire. Police just said, "Please," and then waited for the protesters to freeze to death.

New guidelines from the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention means new masking rules when it comes to the classroom, both at the county and district levels.

“I just think that kids get sick all the time, and I feel like the fact that I went to school without wearing one when I was sick or had a cold -- it’s just weird now to think about that,” college student Olivia Wilson said.

Oakland and Washtenaw counties will officially lift their school mask mandates on Monday morning. But just the thought of not having a mask is somewhat of “no-no” for Wilson and her friend, Zoe Smith...

Lansing — Michigan revealed Monday that it's dropping a broad requirement that masks be worn inside state facilities, another in a bevy of moves to ease COVID-19 policies nearly two years into the pandemic.

State employees in standard office and outdoor settings are generally no longer required to wear masks while working effective Thursday, wrote Liza Estlund Olson, director of the Office of the State Employer, in an email.

DETROIT – Michigan’s chief medical executive says residents should prepare for COVID to continue to come in waves.

For now, the numbers appear to be trending in the right direction. The state is making changes. Michigan reported 1,860 new cases of COVID-19 and 26 virus-related deaths Monday -- an average of 620 cases over the past three days. It’s the lowest average daily case count in Michigan since July.

Michigan is dropping the mask mandate for most state employees starting on Thursday. The mask mandate ended for schools in Oakland and Washtenaw counties on Monday (Feb. 28). Detroit public schools say it’s holding off until mid-March before it considers lifting its mask mandate...

The department said its new directions reflected the state entering a "post-surge, recovery period" of the pandemic. The state identified its first COVID-19 infections two years ago Thursday.

'Stealth omicron' cases adding up in Metro Detroit, Washtenaw Co. (detroitnews.com)

Cases of the BA.2 omicron subvariant, known as "stealth omicron," first detected in Michigan in mid-January, are starting to add up in Metro Detroit and Washtenaw County.

Ninety-nine cases have been detected in 21 Michigan counties and the city of Detroit, state health officials said on Saturday.

Wayne County leads the state with 19 cases, followed by Oakland and Washtenaw counties with 15 cases each, and Macomb County with 13.

Other counties with one or more cases are Barry, Berrien, Calhoun, Houghton, Ingham, Kalamazoo, Kent, Lapeer, Leelanau, Livingston, Marquette, Midland, Monroe, Oceana, Ottawa, Saginaw and St Clair...

Detroit closed its largest vaccine clinic as demand for shots declines (detroitnews.com)

Detroit — The city's largest vaccine clinic has closed due to a decline in demand, Detroit's Chief Public Health Officer Denise Fair Razo said.

During an update to the City Council on Wednesday on the health department's budget, Fair Razo said Huntington Place, formerly the TCF Center, closed its vaccine clinic Feb. 18.

Fair Razo said vaccinations at the downtown clinic dropped from 1,400 to 100 each day earlier this year.

The center was one of the first large-scale drive-through operations in the nation for the general public to receive vaccines or tests for COVID-19. From January 2021 to Feb. 18, the center administered 268,500 vaccines and 10,115 tests, according to the health department...
