A Detroit-area woman is now the world’s oldest living person and her 116th birthday is right around the corner.

Jeralean Talley of Inkster ranks at the top of the list maintained by the Los Angeles-based Gerontology Research Group, which tracks the world’s longest-living people.

Gertrude Weaver, a 116-year-old Arkansas woman who for a few days was the oldest documented person, died on Monday.

Talley was born May 23, 1899...
