Miley Cyrus Embarrassed by Vanity Fair Photo Shoot - Racy Photos

  • #221
Maybe I'm the only one but I think the photos are beautiful and tastefully done.
yeah, I know she's only 15 and no, I wouldn't let my daughter have photos taken like that at 15 but I still think they are art....to be used at home not released to the public but art, none the less. I certainly see the beauty.

Of course, I have a more European mindset when it comes to the body...so my opinion may be biased because of that....

What I can't wrap my mind around is how everyone is saying that the ones with her dad are weird.

Has the American mind become so perverse that a daughter can't take a loving picture with her father? Obviously they are very close. I see nothing sinister there. Just a dad and his girl. I think it's lovely.

No, you are not the only one. I completely agree with you. I think we have become so jaded at the acts of violence and crime against many that perspective becomes lost.

I think the pics, especially that with her Dad, are beautiful.....

Bottom line is how will this experience play out for Miley? Her first reactions, thus far, have been to apologize, be embarassed, express feeling manipulated/intimidated ("You just don't say 'no' to Annie").... NOT hearing her stand up for these photos and demanding to be left alone and enjoy herself at this amazing time of her life, WHY? Because she can't handle the pressure, WHY? BECAUSE SHE WAS TOO FREAKING YOUNG TO DO THIS!!!!

Off Soap Box:rolleyes:

Miley could have said "NO". They teach you that in gradeschool.

That's the thing Paladin .... the power differential between adult and child. Children are told to say NO ... but so few do. Powerless, persusded, manipulated, fearful etc, .....

This past weekend my neighbour was talking about making her children aware of the dangers of the predators. She told me a story of how she was molested while visiting an 'old neigbour' with her mother. Just a room away was her mother was engaged in conversation the sick ____ tried to put his hand into her pants. She was OVERWHELMED .... begs her mother to leave the home and then in hysterics told her mother what had happened. Even with her Mother a room away she had no voice.

So 'they' may teach you to say NO in grade school, but in my experience, the victimized were powerless to do so.

I agree with you! No matter how tough or how grown up they act they are still just children!
If you ever counsel with a woman who has been sexually abused as a child you will look at it a whole lot differently. If you are a mom of a girl who was sexually abused you would be surprised at how many times young girls in counseling turn against their mothers. I have heard, more than once, "She should have known, she should have done something."

Also, recently watched documentary of Annie Leibovitz in process of doing a portrait of the Queen. And she was very bossy towards the Queen and took some sorta false pride in being able to manipulate the Queen during the shoot. The Queen would have none of it and remained steadfast in her protocol.

Okay, I just need to share this. Yes, my opinion, long ago experiences, and my thought that this concerns Disney *business* of "clean" image.

First, I find absolutely no offense in any of the pics that were taken of MC, yes, even with her father. I think it is beautiful in the relaxed being of father/daughter. I wish I had those of my own with their own Dad. Seriously.

Second, I am also a woman who had an experience with a pedophile. They do not care about photos or what sex you are. They only care about gratification for themselves. I was in a park with a half dozen friends. No pictures, no wearing of "sexy" clothes". I was available and he took me. I was under the age of 13 years. They do not care. Period. It is about their sick need and want. Period.

Thirdly, if any noise is being made it is most likely from the side of Disney. Clean image. Purity. Innocence. Nothing that is of real life. That is who/what Disney is. MC is a dollar and image for them. Business goes on...

I truly believe, as I stated before, that we have become jaded and have lost all perspective. We want to do all we can to protect and defend our children, but have lost the beauty of what is also out there. I love the pictures. Maybe because I have older children (however, do not think for one moment I was not a parent overwhelmed with concern!), but I have not lost all. I am not so fixed in damnation of everything.

Perspective should not be lost. I find it is more and more. That scares me more than these pictures in a magazine. We should be more careful when it comes to picking our battles. Sometimes it's no more than it should be. That simple.

Yeah, but it's not like the Queen is a warm/fuzzy kinda lady either! I think it may not have been easy for either one of them. Leibovitz to take a picture of a Queen without stiff behaviour or the Queen who had to work work with a photographer who wanted to show her "regal, yet soft side".:)

Take a look at the sixth picture and see her moving her dads hand and looking disgusted. There is just no way that girl was comfortable.

Sorry, I don't see that at all. Her father is looking off to the other side of her. Do any of us have any idea what photographers were telling them to do? This/was a bunch of photos during a photo shoot.

Much ado about nothing, IMVHO. I honestly will not make a mountain out of a molehill. Life is too short....:)

Thank you for sharing this excellent post, Data. I am so sorry that you were assaulted as a young girl. If I could go back in time, I'd kick that man's a$$. I agree with everything you wrote, to include not finding the pics offensive. That's the thing with any art - our different reactions are completely subjective.

The paragraph I bolded - I appreciate your perspective on this because I have long thought the pedos don't give a flying fig about sexy photos or (pre)teen girls looking older. I don't think a picture of a made-up girl is any more or less enticing to the average pedo than a picture of a girl in jeans raking leaves. Additionally, from the small about of research I have done, many genuine pedos focus on something very specific - and it's different for different ones.

We freak out because we think this entices pedos and perhaps encourages more horrible assaults of young people, but I think we are transferring our own mindset of "what a pedo" thinks like onto "pedos."

The reality is that most of us here at WS do not know what specifically entices pedophiles because we are not pedophiles - and the data we have on the subject is sorely limited. I think it's something that should be studied more, though few have the stomach for it.

Once again - my deepest respect to you as a survivor.

I agree with you here, also. There were probably 5000+ shots taken that day - we cannot possibly infer from one of them that she was uncomfortable and disgusted. I don't even see it in that one. I hate that people are putting this spin on the father/daughter pics. Once again, people's worried dirty thoughts turning something into something it is not.

I too am gonna stick by my opinion. Evidently I am not alone because 3/4 of the people in the AOL survey thought the same.

Not every perp is a pedophile. Some are just horny old men who have become so saturated with 🤬🤬🤬🤬 that they seek something younger and fresher.

That's my opinion and I thank heavens I am in a country where I can speak it.

I mean no personal disrespect to any one. I may not like your opinion but I respect your right to give it.

If pedos don't care about pics, how come when they are busted they always have hundreds+ of them?

Absolutely right! Of course, so do dirty ol' men! LOL.

Well, I am off to watch AI!

Southcitymom and Mic..thank you for getting what I wanted to share. I think the point is as pedophilia (sp?) is concerned it could simply be some child wearing anything from a winter parka/with a specially colored scarf (that they like...go figure the mind set) to a stupid Sears/JC Penney clothing catalog...they do not care because their thinking is not normal.

I meant what I said...I wish I had such beautiful pictures of my own with their Dad. I would have hung them up all over my home....

I cannot change my opinion on this topic. Mountain built from a molehill. I will always work on keeping a perspective of life. Always learning. Good stuff....:)

I understand the concern of pedophiles and I keep a sharp awareness of who is looking at my daughter...but the day I start living my life in fear of what may happen is the day I've died.

I am amazed at how much power we give the bad things in life!

Not one of us out there should have to live in fear because of how we dress, how we look in a photo or anything else.

Rapists and pedo's are going to be who the are...not saying I would do or let my child do anything to provoke them, but I refuse to give them control. My life is mine.

That is why I think we should just hang them on upon first conviction...jmo!
They do not deserve to walk among us!

With great respect to you, these pictures were not 🤬🤬🤬🤬. If any horny old man takes them as so, than they are very, very sad men on every level.

I respect your opinion and I am glad you, mine.:)

Okay, and what type of pics do they "normally" have? Not of MC or any other pictures we all can see in magazines or on CNN (or any other "regular") websites. They collect them from uber sketchy websites or disgusting shops. If they are arrested for such pics, I can promise you it's not because they had many Vanity Fair magazines or the catalogs we all receive in the mail.
