Miley Cyrus Embarrassed by Vanity Fair Photo Shoot - Racy Photos

My personal opinion is that men wanting to have sex with girls just turning into women is as old as the history of mankind. In that long history, it is only recent that this has even been deemed wrong (not terribly long ago, a pregnant 14 year-old woman was not considered odd or outrageous).

Our collective unconscious on the subject will take a long time to catch up with our current views. That's why it's a billion dollar industry - because it is standard fantasy fare.

I even believe that "normal" males can have this fantasy. When it's older "normal" males, I think it is often rooted in a desire for youth - to possess it and recapture some of your own. The lure of purity and innocence will always be a powerful aphrodesiac to humans possessing bodies that whither and die and minds that become jaded and world-worn.

These classic yearnings are present in all types of our art from Lolita to American Beauty. We can say "Eww - yucky - that's gross and sick" or we can explore the underlying realities in the face of the progressions of our own morals, culture and beliefs.

Yes, she is 15 and off-limits is today's society, but according to nature, she's a woman.
Sorry, southcity, this is where I disagree. This is the kind of logic that men like the FLDS ones use to justify sex with underage girls. Just because one gets their period does not make you mature!

Sadly, America has never shaken its puritanical roots.

We're so far behind Europe in many aspects. I don't think we'll ever catch up.

Might I suggest you do some research on the problem of the child sex trade in Europe, most especially in Eastern Europe, and then let us know if you still think their system is so much better.

It's not logic, LinasK. It's a fact of biology. In today's culture, it is unacceptable for young teen girls to have sex/get pregnant, but it was not always so.

Nature has seen fit to make us physically mature enough to bear children before we as a society deem us emotionally mature enough to have children. It's similar to the fact that nature allows young kids the ability to walk and run and get into untold mischief before their brains are smart enough to handle such freedom. Again - I didn't make these rules - it's simply the way our bodies function. But it's not logic or opinion, IMHO.

I don't have a problem with the fact that today's society does not think it is right for young girls to be sexualized and for young girls to have sex and bear children. I'm just pointing out some plain truths about the matter - plain truths that have been around for a long time.

In you opinion, was it morally wrong for young teens to have sex and get pregnant at age 13, 14 in Biblical times? My stepmom's 80-year-old Mom was married and pregnant at 16. Was that morally wrong?

Again - I understand and appreciate it that we consider it morally wrong today, but I think it benefits us to examine these attitudes in full and discover how we arrived at them.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing." - Edmond Burk

Yes, but the thing is sitting here -- or anywhere else -- and complaining to each other about it *IS* DOING NOTHING.

How many of you have actually called Vanity Fair offices, Disney offices, or any of the other teen-focused mags and websites and complained about the material that you find offensive? Probably not one. How many of us are sitting here typing complaints about how "gross" and "inappropriate" these photo are? Several.

That was my point. Get off here, go complain to the top people at these sites IF you feel like you need to voice your concerns. While you're at it, teach your kids that child/teen celebrities are human too and will do things that aren't always the "right" thing to do. Then define "right" to your own standards.

That is so true! We live in Germany and believe me when I say..it's totally another world over here.

i refuse to buy my daughter a magazine that uses young girls as a sex object and i refuse to shop in stores that sexualize young girls that they uses as models. not handing them my money is a effective way to show my disapproval.

I don't like personal attacks on anyone. Please think twice about telling us what to tell our children. None of us should assume what others tell their children. None of us should assume that because someone doesn't think like us they are somehow "less then" others. I am not judging Miley Cyrus. It's not about HER in my eyes, it's about the judgment of those surrounding her. That having been said I am through with posting on this thread. :bang:

That is truth! Miley is a victim in this, she's still a young girl. And, with very few exceptions no one here has condemned her or wished her ill will in anyway. I'm appalled to see that while she got out for awhile today, the paps were shouting for a comment from her about these photos. That too is not right! Shout those questions at the adults whom should have protected her from the exploitation.

I'm not talking about child sex. I'm talking about people being uptight about the human form.

Absolutely! Trashy mags (US Weekly, People, etc...) are my dirty little pleasure, especially when taken in conjunction with a nice hot bath. But I just don't keep them around anymore because I don't want my kids exposed to all that stuff. It's okay to rot my own brain, mind you....:)

I know it gets harder to filter that stuff as they get older.

Three things here and I'm done:

1. I won't tell anyone what to do with their kids -- and I wasn't personal with YOU about this. MY OPINION but half the people on here are complaining about what kind of a role model she is by doing these shoots. But just what are you teaching your kids by throwing a fit and not finding ways to voice your opinion to the people who CAN change it?

2. And excuse me, but WHEN did I say that anyone here is "less then" me? I know that mine is not the popular opinion, but I HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS IT ANYWAY. Just like you did. And it wouldn't be the first time that I've been treated like I'M less than myself. I get over it and you can as well. See, *I* get angry when I'm told that I can't have my opinions because they aren't the same as all the others -- and in defense of my opinions I WILL GET PERSONAL.... SORRY IF YOU DON'T LIKE THAT.

3. When you judge the actions of someone, you ARE judging them. You are judging their minds, their emotions, and their physical reactions to situations. It doesn't matter if she has one or one hundred people "handling" her -- she is her own person as well and her thoughts should have at least been entertained on it. Just straight up telling her that she can't have an opinion is probably the WORST thing to do. If she wanted to do it, let her take the shot. If she or her parents were uncomfortable, then DELETE IT. Easy enough. Apparently they liked it or it wouldn't have been published.

I work on magazine shoots for a living. (I do wardrobe.) I don't see the big deal, but I can tell you this: Her publicist was absolutely there. Annie's a big deal and so is VF, so her publicist might have been a little deferential, but no question she was there. Celebrities don't get paid for magazine shoots. They do it for the publicity. If the photo with her dad was a little creepy, it's not an accident. The photographer knows what she's doing. (She also has a daughter, by the way.) And neither the celebrity, nor her handlers, gets photo approval, although they may see stills during the shoot.

I guess my Sears catalog is 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 too. I hope I don't get locked up.

Hi Ntegity. No of course not.

FYI, But the Sears catalogue is used as a source of 'imagery' and iirc, it was mentioned on WS thread, that pedophiles sites do recommend it to others within their network who are unable to source or purchase child 🤬🤬🤬🤬.

I saw that on ? Et?, tonite as well, felt very sorry for Miley. She had her 8 year old? sister in tow as well. Didn't expect Miley to be out and about. She responded "No Comment" to the paps. Good for her!

Rosie has a big heart when it comes to these young stars. I think that's awesome. It's also good publicity!

After news of the skin-showing portrait by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz was revealed last week, Cyrus issued an exclusive statement to PEOPLE saying: "My goal in my music and my acting is always to make people happy. For Vanity Fair, I was so honored and thrilled to work with Annie. I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed."

I think Annie got exactly the publicity for Vanity Fair that she expected to get. I do believe Miley was led to believe the photos would be 'artistic', and people are making too much of this.
