It took 3 hours to straighten this out? How does 11 DEAD get communicated as 12 ALIVE?

This is OUTRAGEOUS! Seems like a miscommunication of epic proportions!

Those poor families have been on a roller coaster ride of emotions! Something is just SO WRONG here!

I thought something may have been wrong when there was no press conference with the good news. That seemed VERY strange to me.

The press? I think not! They only reported what the Governor & the CEO told the families

What a whiplash! That's the worst way the news could have come out.

OMG. This is just the worst. Randall McCloy is the only survivor....and the youngest of the crew I think. I am crushed...I can't imagine the families.

I knew when it was taking so long that something had to be wrong.

According to all accounts, the press reported what the families had said, the CEO never stated that...

They were located very near to the first drill hole that went in....where the carbon monoxide levels were so high.

HUGE miscommunication is an understatement here. This poor man relaying this news and facing the media.......I still support him......he seems straight up.

According to the CNN blurb, they're now reporting only one survived again on info from the families. So then, where are the families getting this from?

Hatfield says they knew early on that the wrong news had made it to the church and they sent news through police channels that nothing was confirmed. He's not sure if that information made it to the church. He says in fact, they did get information at first at the command center that all 12 were alive, but that they NEVER sent that word to the church and he has no idea who made the statement at the church.

I just heard the bad news. My heart was crushed. How awful for the families to have their hopes lifted and then destroyed. I feel so bad for them.

Ben Hatfield, CEO of the mining company is saying that there was never any such communication from them to the miners' families.

He is saying it was a miscommunication and it was not thru International Coal Group.

What I perceived him saying, was that the communication from the rescue teams that was somehow overheard and miscommunicated which resulted in the families (false) hopes being raised.

Hatfield is saying that the 11 miners injuries may have been from carbon monoxide poisoning. The one, who was declared deceased first - Hatfield seems to think his injuries were caused a result of the explosion.

Geez, this is just awful, awful, awful!

I am seeing it now........radio transmissions from the mine shaft to the command center were very audible. So anyone in close proximity to it....maybe walking by when the door was open.....anything like that.....heard the initial report that 12 were found alive. The corrective communication came a bit later saying they had found the 12....but 11 were deceased. UGH. Heartbreak all around..........

I feel sorry for Hatfield. He just said, "This is beyond belief. Welcome to the worst day of my life." You can tell he is grief stricken. He does seem to be straight up, as someone else mentioned.

I'm going to try and get some sleep now. I know some of these families won't sleep well for a long time. My heart and sympathies go out to them. And Ben Hatfield.......he's hurting as much as anyone.......and has faced this onslaught with such courage. He's not sugar coated anything......I pray for him too.
