Miss California - Same Sex Marriage-Perez Hilton

  • #61
Doesnt' Trump own this pageant? If so, I think we should send him the message that choosing the male Rosie O, Perez H., as a judge was a big mistake and he should come out and say so. He should condemn Perez for giving her a ZERO which tanked her overall score just because he has an agenda. Not fair.

Isn't if ironic that no one even knows Miss America because Miss CA has stolen the spotlight thanks to that Queen P.H? Is that good or bad for Trump?

I don't even know who Perez is. But, now I know who Miss CA. is and she ROCKS.

She made mistakes in her answer, but did it deserve a "0"? I really didn't hear the winner's answer. If he is the only judge to rate her so low; he has a personal bias. I don't think that question should have been allowed, if a judge is gay. It's like having a black judge and asking why more blacks are in prison. The whole thing seems poorly run.

She could have basis for discrimination, but unfortunately judging a beauty pageant is not really OBJECTIVE. Each judge has personal preferences, (tho' shouldn't be a hot button or religious issue) though I would imagine there are guidlines.

Did Perez follow the basic guidelines for judging? She might have a case, but it would be close.

And how is the winner feeling now, Miss North Carolina? Certainly no focus on her.

I think Miss Ca. is making a mistake by saying things like, "I'm really the winner". (if she did say those things.

Any way they could share the title?

I don't know - is 0 appropriate if you completely fail to answer the question?

Mtex says:

"We live in a country where you can choose....." ( so actually, her answer was WRONG)

SO, hmm. That's a tough one. I would like know how often one is given a "o"; and how the other judges rated the question.

The problem is that Perez is biased regarding that question. So was it fair to begin with?

I'm not defending her, but not sure she deserved a 0, and if her score was that close to the other, you could argue that the judge was "biased" and that caused her to lose.

I don't know if she would win anything in court. I'm liking her less and less for bragging she "really won" and so forth.

Let see, when is the last time Trump was in the news or any of his endeavors were considered news worthy...His feud with Rosie and stripping Tara Conner (Miss USA) of her crown. Now, what is everyone talking about? The Miss USA pageant controversy. Trump is a very shrewd business man and I doubt this "controversy" was accidental. I believe Trump agrees with the philosophy "any publicity is good publicity".

I already stated earlier that I believe she is entitled to her opinion and it was wrong to ask an opinion question and judge her because you don't like her opinion. I have since listened to her actual answer and it was pretty badly done (not because of her opinion) but because she really didn't answer the question, nor did her answer really make a lot of sense. I think her loss was legitimate, and it is too bad for the other girl that her win will be forever tainted by this controversy.

Ziggy, I'm a relatively new poster (long time lurker) and I just realized I've quoted you twice. I promise, I am not stalking you (ha ha). I guess I just find your posts interesting enough to comment on.:)

Not to be rude but you have posted quite a bit regarding the issue of same sex marriage and it is apparent you feel strongly about it and support it. So, I understand if you have a resentment towards this young lady. To answer your question, she did answer the question "Perez" asked. She said that she believes that a marriage should be between a man and a women. I pretty much gathered that as a big no and am certain most of the viewers at home drew the same conclusion.

Without choosing sides in this answer I will say the following. Listening to her answer I "cringed". I cringed not because of her opinion, but because of her inability to articulate her feelings in a way that both answered the question and remained respectful to both sides of the issue. As Miss USA you serve as an ambassador of the United States. An ambassador should be able to remain neutral when appropriate and guage answers based upon her environment. She failed to properly answer the question and in essence alienated a very large portion of America with her response. Now as far as Perez......he is a highly controversial and often offensive blogger who makes his living off of gossip and harassing celebrities. BUT he asked a fair question and knowing that he was a judge she should have been prepared to answer a question while remaining respectful. I don't agree with him calling her a dumb bi**h but he does that on a daily basis on his website so it was just another day at the office for him. Personally, I think the Miss USA pageant is a joke. Why do we need a swimsuit category in order to deem you worth of representing the US. I think real US ambassadors have proven themselves on the world stage and haven't found it necessary to parade around in a teeny bikini to prove their worth. Should she have used the stage as a platform for her personal beliefs? No. She said "no" based on her opinion, but a much better way to put it would have been to discuss equal rights, progress that has been made in that arena and that while she considers marriage to be something only a man and woman could share that our world is changing and evolving and that she sees it as a possibility down the road. Everyone would have been happy. She is sour grapes right now and true colors are being displayed. So who thinks pageants are real now??? That in and of itself should show us the best one "won". FWIW JMO Don't kill the messenger. And all that other stuff. Peace.

You say equal rights and we have to understand that not everybody feels that homosexuals don't have equal rights. It is the description of marriage that many are arguing and voting against. When looking at the world through a biblical perspective like this young lady does, we see that marriage is defined as between a man and a women. This is a religion that people choose to align their beliefs with and follow, these people are not "out of touch". It is not a matter of simply "evolving" because what they percieve to be God's word does not change. They have every right to believe that way, they simply think that homosexuality is unnatural because they believed God made women for man. Now, anybody can disagree with this, that's fine. But to belittle somebody who has a religious conviction and the guts to proclaim that conviction on TV? Come on, that's not fair. Like this young lady, I feel sincerely sorry for Perez. It's obvious by his website that he, somebody who promots tolerance and love, is a completely hateful man.

She had the right to voice what she believes;although, i personally, have different views --can respect others opinions.

I have a friend who was female and married under a male name and presented himself as male ..although he was female under clothing. ( i didnt know myself until a year into friendship he was a she ..so he was a convincing 'man' .;God rest his soul.

I think Perez Hilton pushed this for publicity to hype his own image.

Oh I understand that everyone has their own opinion. When I said "evolve" I meant that in the grand scheme of things people have made it law not to discriminate based on sexual preference in many situations. Much like womens rights and racial relations. We evolve as we change and grow. Society has certainly changed and grown. I just thought that the way she phrased the answer was inappropriate. And to throw in a "no offense against you" blurb at the end was too little too late. She should be proud of her conviction and is entitled to it. That's what makes our country so great. It was a question that could have been asked and answered differently. I just take offense to her "poor me" "I consider myself to be the winner" attitude. Accepting defeat with dignity and grace should be part of her character. I don't see any of that now. I think the Miss USA pagenat has become a joke. If it were really something to be proud of, I would think that judges of a different calibur than online blogger and briefcase girl #1 from Deal or No Deal would be in order.

I can see your point that she answered the question indirectly. I think a more direct answer "No - I do not think other states should follow suit" would have been better received. She was just a little weasely - which I actually completely understand given the sticky wicket of a question. But frankly, I think it's hard to answer questions on your feet.

I don't think ill of Ms. Cally - it was an opinion question and she gave hers. I don't think it was a great answer regardless of her opinion (even though, as I said earlier, I have seen worse flubs). Ms. Cally will be fine - she has gotten LOTS of press from this and that's a good thing for someone in the pageant arena.

In the end I am only glad Ms. NC won because I'm a Southern girl! But frankly, I wouldn't have even known this event had taken place if there hadn't been this non-scandal!

Well you've got a good point there about Trump - a bit of a media 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 himself yep. I totally agree that her answer was inarticulate (hope that's a word) but whether she answered with eloquence or not, she is being called a dumb biotch because of her beliefs, which is wrong. Perez should have stuck to saying, "she did not answer the question well." Still everyone would figure that PH didn't like it because of the answer. "The Gay Mafia" as they are called, is very intollerant and it's well known.

NOBODY should have to be politically correct to win something. That is what they are expecting - you better be politically correct or you are fair game to be smeared. That's just wrong. Political correctness is just a way to get people to conform and to keep them in fear of what they say. What the hell country am I living in????

What??? You're not my stalker??? But that would put me right up there with Britney, Letterman, Madonna...oh, nevermind cuz I don't want to be in their company :-)

She said she believed it personally and according to what she learned growing up in her family; that did NOT answer the question of whether further states should follow through with allowing homosexual marriage.

She said we live in a country where "we can choose", and we're lucky for that; so I don't take that as a definite "no".

She was trying to be politically correct, and I certainly don't blame her given the subject. But I certainly don't think she was giving a definite "no" or "yes" on gay marriage in America.

That is so true. And we really have growing pains on some issues, but once we get through it we look back and think, "what was the big deal"?

(womens' right to vote, women attending colleges like Princeton, interracial marriage, etc.)

I read this on the blog a former Ms. Nevada. If what she says is true (gays on the panels judging the contest, etc...) then Ms. Cally surely wasn't playing to the Judges:

"To be fair, the beginning of Prejean's answer was ok…but, she made the mistake of not knowing when to shut her mouth. As she continued to speak, I saw the crown move further & further away from her. When she finished, she looked strangely proud for a moment. Personally, I was STUNNED on several levels. First, how could this young woman NOT know her audience and judges? Let's not forget that the person asking the question is an openly gay man, at least 2 people on the judges panel are openly gay. Another judge has a sister in a gay marriage. Her very own state pageant director, KEITH LEWIS is an openly gay man who has been a very generous benefactor of hers…in many ways....."

But I do wonder - how many judges were there?

Equal rights are not something you have a "feeling" about. You either can or you cannot walk up to the courthouse and marry the person you love and have decided to commit to. according to the law.

You either can do the same things that other Americans are allowed to do, or you are discriminated against for your "difference", and because you don't fit in with the majority or what is considered "normal".

I admire her for sticking to her opinion knowing it would cost her points. I hope that she does well in the future. I admit to previously reading Perez Hilton's website, but no more. Everyone has their opinion and she was not judged on how she answered it, but what her answer was. He clearly stated that on his website and called her names. People can agree to disagree on their views, but still be respectful. He either should have asked a different question or judged her on how she answered it. IMO that question hurt him more than her based on how they have handled the controversy.

  • #79
I agree that Perez handled it badly, I heard him in an interview today saying "she could have answered the question better". Well, that may not constitute a "o"; he obviously reacted very emotionally and perhaps could not be an unbiased judge for that question.

I don't think she should have had to hide her opinions, and I think she said it respectfully and honestly; as long as she also answered the question asked. (which she didn't quite, IMO)

  • #80
i cannot understand how perez could've given her a "0" just b/c he didn't agree with her answer... i believe this goes against judging criteria b/c i'm sure she had some "poise, charm, self confidence, ability to communicate, and some substance in the answer"as per the Miss USA interview judging rules:

http://www.misstexasusa.com/judging.html

and if all pageants use similar criteria in choosing their judges, perez certainly was not "fair... and impartial":

http://massprincess.tripod.com/id16.html

i'd hope the Miss USA organization would decide to invalidate his scores for the interview component and re-calculate scores in the hope of deciding a winner based on integrity/fairness not bias/anger. it truly is the most decent thing to do IMO.

(i used to read perez's website and over a year ago i got totally disgusted with some things he posted and vowed to never look again. i've not deviated from this decision once)

i saw this commentary on CNN.com earlier... very interesting!
