That thought occurred to me, too, golfmom.
I'm thinking the underlying theme to this press conference is CYA. The very fact that they would accept that note at face value in light of the fact that her mother had informed them she had not heard from her daughter since December 14th, then classify her as UA (as an excuse not to investigate further?)

8 months pregnant and you abruptly leave the place that's providing shelter and income PLUS you don't even CALL your mother, let alone going home to her for support during the delivery?

And then that little "mistake" of the Base OB's office claiming Maria had kept her Dec. 26 appointment when she had in fact MISSED IT and not called!?!?!

How inconvenient!
