Missing Georgia hiker--Meredith Emerson, 24 #2

I thought their request for those wishing to help so fitting - not that it matters in the scheme of things, but it did bring a hint of a smile to my face seeing what they asked for.

At 10:00PM on Monday January 7, 2008 it was announced that the body of Meredith Emerson was found in Dawson County. Rest in Peace Meredith, your light will be missed by all who knew you.
This is the statement read by the Emerson family's friend, and Meredith's godmother, Peggy Bailey, in Athens, GA, on January 8, 2008, the day after Meredith's body was found. The family of Meredith Emerson would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the following good people:
Union County and Dawson County Sheriff's Departments, Fire and Rescue Departments
Georgia Bureau of Investigation
And the 60-plus agencies involved in the search and eventual recovery of Meredith.


The family would also like to express their appreciation in the professionalism and compassion of the local and national media and thank them again for helping to facilitate getting information out about Meredith as well as helping the world learn to know her, and learn to love her, as we always have and always will.


We would also like to thank the untold number of friends and volunteers and family who helped search and support all of us at this tragic and troubling time.


There will be a memorial service for Meredith at Central Presbyterian Church here in Athens at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.

The family will also hold a memorial service for Meredith in Longmont, Colorado, at a later time.


For those who wish to honor Meredith with a donation, we ask that you contribute to your local animal rescue shelter.

I hope that Sheriff Mahoney and Special Agent Young have been taken off the Bryant case. Their comments were on Jan 5th, before LE came from NC to Georgia for info on the Emerson case. But still, their comments are arrogant and stupid, IMO. Snips from the below link:

I mentioned this b/f but there was a poster named Glenn Adams on GretaWire who said on Thurs. of that wk he saw the white van nr. Amaciola River and there was recent human stuff...food wrappers, dr. pepper, natural organics wrappers, bottled water. and in an abondoned house was the same, and dog feces and mattresses. LE was there and figured Hilton and meredith had been there. Unless I don't have my facts straight. But maybe that's where he was keeping her during T/W/Th.

I wouldnt be suprised if it turned out to be true. I mean, its unlikely he drove around for 3 days in the van with her in it..

Didn't he go to the ATM's on the 2nd? So he must have driven his van..do u think he really took the chance of her being in the van? he had to have had her somewhere..

They might as well promise him no death penalty...with all the appeals...not likely he would live long enough to actually be put to death. They need to get all the information that they can.

Yes he took her somewhere while he was out and about hunting down ATM machines. Did he actually get any money from the ATMs?
Have there been pics shown of him using Meredith's card?

One bank has been ID'd. It is the Regions Bank in Canton. Not sure about the other one.

I was thinking the same thing, schultzan! Of course thinking what could have been done, what should've been done, etc. is of no help now!
I just keep thinking the poor girl could have been saved if someone had reacted a little earlier in the chain of events!!!

I hope LE from different states and jurisdictions are able to work together in a timely manner. They probably only have a small window of time to get his cooperation before he decides the 3 blankets, 3 hots and a cot aren't that great.

I agree with you that he will be dead from natural causes before the appeals process in a DP case runs out in GA.

Did you notice that his SS# is left on the warrant?

Anyone want to tackle a comprehensive background search on him as far as established residences and known associates go?
We already know there weren't any outstanding warrants on him in October.

I wonder if Hilton is some kind of weird dog fetishist and got Dandy since he was reminded him of Bywater's dog (another retriever) so he got her and; he killed them back then, as some of his first kills? The dogs seem to be a reoccuring theme.

I do think that Cayle is connected to this man..and his killings. Just because she was Bipolar should not stop us or LE looking at this crime. This seems like Le is saying because she is Bipolar that means she took off. My relationships and knowledge of Bipolar individuals does not lead me to believe that..actually I never knew of a Bipolar patient running off..they may not answer the phone, they may avoid connect, but normaly they don't just take off for a few months or days without letting someone know why.
