Missing Georgia hiker--Meredith Emerson, 24 #3

I don't know why they would be surprised to find her eyeglass in the park where she went missing. :waitasec: However, it tells me what an inadequate department they have investigating her disappearance since it took 2 weeks for some kid to find the glasses FOR them!!

That upsets me SS. LE on that case really did write her off as a nutcase. It's only after her glasses were found that they started seriously searching that area. LE is backing off on their statement they made to Bywaters family that there was absolutely no connection to Hilton. Now they say they haven't found a connection yet. But that it could be a possibility.

My son and I very well may have ran into this guy in the winter time about 2 years ago. We were headed to a star party at the Rome, GA airport. We got lost trying to find the backroad to the airfield so we stopped at the airport.

It was cold, and fairly empty and we stopped the car right at the doors and went in to ask right quick. My son was only 10 or so and wanted to go in, so we both went in. There were 2 men in the place.

One worked there and one was just hanging out I think. When I asked directions, this man - that looks like this guy - I thought so when I saw him, but didn't say anything until my son saw him on the news and recognized him too- He gets up like he is MAD when I said I was lost.

He said "Do you know which way East is. No you don't..." and he was cussing me and then he was running at me. The man chased us OUT of there. We got in the car and locked the doors we were so scared, and the guy that worked there had ran out too and was trying to calm the guy down.

We got to the star party on our own finally, and found out he had went off the deep end with another lady that went in and said she was lost.

Anyway, someone said he was a skydiver. The ROme airport is where most people do that - I know folks come from Atlanta to do that.

I can't say 100% for sure that it is him, but it looked like him - we both thought so - and watching that tape of the guy move - yeah, I'd say there is a very good chance it was him. The guy at the airport knew him so it would be easy to check - when the guy running the star party called down there to complain, he said "it is just ol Mack, he's just an old curmergeon, you gotta ignore him" but I tell ya, that guy scared me and I ran a forensic psych unit and a long term psych unit for many years and I have never seen someone get that mad that fast to someone that just walked in like that. I think asking directions set that guy off.

Sorry about the long post - just wanted to put all that out there in case it might help with a timeline or something. I dunno. I really do think it was him.

Oh man...to bad Tabor didnt tell Hilton to wait at the Huddle House and he would bring the check to him. But if he was out of state I guess he would of had to come up with another idea.ugh! Soooo close, so close...

Thursday, while at a Pickens County Huddle House, Hilton called his former boss, John Tabor.

"He said he needed some money to get started," Tabor said. "So I told him I would leave a check for him at the office on Clairmont Road for him to retrieve the following day, Friday."

What Gary Hilton didn't know when he called Tabor was that Tabor had already called the GBI about Hilton. Tabor said he called the GBI as soon as he heard that Meredith Emerson was missing from the hiking trail on Blood Mountain in Union County. Tabor knew Hilton camped in the wilderness there, and based on what he knew of Hilton, suspected Hilton might be the one who kidnapped Emerson.

So Tabor had already given the GBI Hilton's name, van description and license tag numbers. Right after Hilton called Tabor, Tabor called the GBI again, and the GBI raced to the Huddle House, trying to catch up to Hilton and Emerson.

That was the last contact I had from Gary Hilton," Tabor said. "And apparently when they picked him up, he was en-route to get that check."

Tabor is out of state and expects to return home to Metro Atlanta in a few days. He said he never really intended to re-hire Hilton, after a falling out they had last year. He is grieving along with the people at the Huddle House, wondering and agonizing over what more they could have done.

Skullaria~ What a story! If you haven't contacted authorities yet, please do. Since there is a way for them to track that lead easily by talking to the people at the airport, it might give them a good timeline point of where he was and could connect him to other "situations" in that area.

Thanks for telling us! It does sound like how his former boss, Tabor, has described him and another woman who worked near him named Barb. I think it is a valid tip!!

I do believe it was in Jan or Feb - it was freezing and Dragos came up about 11, Orion was almost right overhead. Dr. Young managed that star party, and he called back to the airport after we got there and complained and found another lady with the same sort of experience. Dr. Young would know the date of that 2006 star party of the Rome Club, I'm sure. You know, I could be wrong - but that has always bugged me - the guy seemed to be someone that hung out there a lot that they knew was crazy and they just let him chase me and my son like that, and he looked just like him - tall and lean...it was real important to this guy to let me know how smart he was and how stupid I was for being lost. My son was terrified, but frankly I was too.

It was either Oct. 14th or January 12th. I am not in the Rome group, but my astronomy group was invited- I was looking at our archives - those are the 2 dates I see posted. ANYWAY, for what it is worth. It was so cold - I would think it would be Jan but it could have been cold in Oct. I guess. It was very cold. I will try to look at some star charts later and figure it out. I remember the sky better than the date :/

I agree with SS you should definately call this in. It does sound like Hilton..exactly his M.O. I don't know what was wrong with that guy to just snap at people like that? Not to mention how scared you and your son were I would of been to and you did the right then by getting the heck out of there. I don't think this is the kind of guy you would want to argue back with.

I can't seem to edit that - I looked at star chart online - would have been the Jan 12 date around 9pm that I saw him when I stopped - we got there about 10 b/c we were so lost driving around.

I'm really happy to see that Tabor is now speaking out saying he did everything to help. Can you imagine how many people are kicking themselves in hindsite? First, we have the cop who found all the items. Then the person who copied down the plate number of Hilton's van. Then Tabor, who suspected him immediately and called the police. Tabor was doing the right thing, but we just didn't know about it. That goes to show us how much goes on behind the scene.

How close did all this happen in relation to where Hilton lived? I just wonder because he was suspected so early on. If he is a serial killer, then why kill so close to home? Florida I can see, because he wasn't even on the radar until Meredith was killed. Maybe this guy was just getting crazier and started messing up more.

I was thinking - even if that wasn't him - still think it was - if he was a paratrooper they should check the Rome airport (and others that offered that?) to see if he was doing any jumps there. It could help place his whereabouts and would be easy to do???

The Groene's I can understand; he had the children to use as leverage. I would die before I would let someone hurt my child, but as much as I love my dogs I don't know if I thought I was going to die I wouldn't try to save myself at the sacrifice of my dog. Breaks my heart to have to say that.

Bolndieskatz: I agree with you wholeheartedly. I would most definitely sacrifice myself to save my daughter's life. I would NOT, however, sacrifice my own life for my dog. :twocents:

Didn't Hilton try a few times to use Merediths card but with no luck? I wonder if she purposely game him the wrong pin number to buy her time? Maybe thinking that they would catch his face on video at the atm machine and that would lead LE to him and save her?

LE should have a way to find out if the incorrect pin numbers entered in the machine were consistent or if he was randomly trying numbers.

Good, be safe rather than sorry. I already lost one computer this year to hacking.

This is totally off topic, but you don't LOSE a computer to hacking.

Just an FYI: If you are hacked, it is usually completely reversible as long as your hard drive is still spinning. The worst case scenario is that you would have to format your system, which essentially is erasing everything on your hard drive and starting all over with a fresh installation of Windows. A proficient tech should be able to reverse the effects of hacking without a format (and save your data).

I had it in my favorites and when I clicked on it shared the hebejebee out of me.. was big black screen with hand says this site has been hacked by such and such.. didnt stay around long enuff to take notes. LOL I had it saved twice tried other one same thing.. ran scans and my comp is ok...Thank goodness!!

Just because the SITE is hacked does not necessarily mean your PC is in any danger. As long as you don't DOWNLOAD anything off of the site, you would be fine (assuming you have an up-to-date antivirus software program running).
