I am looking into the disappearance of a family member who went missing in December of 1978 and has not been seen since. I have contacted the police in Detroit but they can’t find any missing persons records. I believe she was attending Wayne State University I also submitted an FOIA request to them but no one is on campus to look through the records. I also have pending FOIA request for the social security office, IRS, Federal student aid, Mississippi state department of health for her medical records. I have a couple theories on what could have happen but at the moment nothing substantial. My theories at the moment is witness protection, kidnapping, murder and human trafficking. If anybody could give me any ideas or help I would appreciate it.

Old genealogist here.

If this person was murdered & remains were located, there will be newspaper articles. If a co-ed was thought to be kidnapped, there will be newspaper articles.

Might take a while, but:

Library of Michigan - Library of Michigan Newspapers

Post her picture, ask if anyone remembers her from her freshman/sophomore/whatever year in 1978:

Wayne State University Alumni Association

Do the same on the alumni page of her high school.

Can you tell us anything more about the situation?

BTW have you combed NAMUS for remains discovered beginning in 1979? Anywhere in the RUst Belt?

Interested in having more dots to connect here.

@Investigator2020 , are you willing to tell us a little more about your family member?

You've used the pronoun "She," so I expect we're looking for a female?

Mind telling us her height & build, even generally?

Ethnicity, hair color & texture?

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

this link should be the Search page.

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

This link should show the 118 unidentified deceased females, probably between the ages of 17 & 20, probably deceased 1978-1979.

Knowing more about your relative could help.

And, have you checked here:

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

Her remains may be identified but unclaimed, waiting.
