If a change of venue is granted for SM it will certainly also be granted for TMs trial.

You very well might be thinking more logically than the judge, Knox! ;)

- The first question is will SM actually serve all or most of that 5 months for the gag order violation? Will he be released early for good behavior?
- The next question is when will the trial be held? First Qtr 2017? (that's my guess at this point).
- And finally, where will the 2nd trial be held? (I can easily see it being moved to another county & wonder if the judge will try to move it closer to where he personally resides.)

The wheels of justice certainly do grind slowly, perhaps even a bit more slowly in the south.

PTF, did you edit your post? I swear I was looking at "Orrie West."

Yes, I did and reposted with other info.

Orrie West is Circuit Public Defender, Mr. James C. Galmore is Assistant Public Defender.

But, on this page, it says he is Senior Trial Attorney!

That's likely I'd imagine, though I wasn't questioning anything related to TM's trial. By "2nd trial" I meant SM's 2nd trial since the 1st was a mistrial.

I realized that I was stating it thinking the Judge is probably realizing once he opens that door he won't have a choice but to do it for TM also. I'm not sure the Judge wants a change in venue either.

"The group agreed to reconvene to argue the change of venue in September when Judge Dennis will be back in Horry County. He said he will make his decision about the location of the trial then."

Truslow said he needs a transcript of the trial to help prepare for the retrial and he hasn’t gotten that yet. He has been promised that he will get it by Aug. 5.

He also said he has an expert, a highly-qualified individual and scientist who clearly disagrees with testimony in the first trial, who will testify in the retrial, but he will be out of the country from Aug. 8-24, which could conflict with the trial as scheduled.
From article, where was his expert in the first trial? They called no witnesses.

I personally don't think the venue will change. What is needed is a change of Judge IMO.

BBM -- I wonder if the expert is the same one that testified on April 18th at the pre-trial hearing.

I personally don't think the venue will change. What is needed is a change of Judge IMO.

All of a sudden, he is taking his job seriously. He should've done this the first go-round :

If the change of venue is granted, Dennis said he’ll have to talk with county officials to find a county that has demographics similar to Horry’s, and he’ll have to weigh the cost of taking the case to that county for trial, or bringing an out-of-county jury to Horry to hear the case.

If that happens he said the jury will have to be sequestered and it will be costly.

He is also anticipating questioning prospective jurors individually and in-depth about their opinions about the case the same way jury selection is handled in death-penalty cases to make sure Moorer gets a fair retrial.

That could take two to three days just to get a jury
, so a retrial could take two weeks, the judge said.

“I just can’t ignore the fact that we’ve had a full trial and everybody’s seen it...We aren’t where we were when we tried it the first time,” he said.

Dennis said he can’t find a case where a change of venue was granted before jury selection began, but he will continue to look.

I thought this judge did a poor job in picking the jury!

I am afraid change of venue just changes the location. I feel like he will be retried before the end of the year. I hope he does not get out of jail for a long time!

Former county detective countersues domestic violence victim
JULY 29, 2016 5:02 PM
BY AUDREY HUDSON

Former Horry County Detective Allen Large denies in court documents filed Thursday that he coerced a domestic violence victim into participating in a nude catfight video and is now suing the woman claiming she ruined his reputation and crippled future job prospects.

The woman identified only as Jane Doe 3 who filed the civil lawsuit against Large “has blatantly misrepresented facts in order to abuse the system and obtain some type of money,” said the countersuit filed in the U.S. District Court of South Carolina, Florence Division.

Large’s counterclaim says that he never assaulted or threatened the woman whom he considered a friend, and that he is “shocked and horrified” by her claims.

This guy is a piece of work IMO.

Former Horry County Police Chief named finalist for chief job in Georgia

By Jonee' Lewis
Published: July 31, 2016, 7:32 pm Updated: July 31, 2016, 7:38 pm

STATESBORO, GA (WBTW)- Former Horry County Police Chief Saundra Rhodes has been named a finalist for the job of Statesboro chief of police.

According to the Statesboro Herald, city officials named three finalists for the position.

Rhodes was named Chief of Police in 2012 after working as Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain.

She retired on May 6, 19 months before she was eligible for retirement. Documents released show that Horry County paid out more than $61,145.37 to the South Carolina Retirement Systems to allow Rhodes to retire early with full benefits.

[...]

It perturbs me that Rhodes was "paid out/off" to retire [uh... er...] step down prior to being eligible for retirement benefits and then is out scouting for a new job.

She should return those tax payer dollars that she shouldn't have taken in the first place IMOO! Those dollar bills have corruption written all over them. :banghead:

If you or I wanted to retire early from a company, do you honestly think they would they give us a year-and-a-half of pay with full benefits??? I highly doubt it!

This smells big-time!

If SM happens to stay in jail for 6 months, who will pay for TM's Disney dream life? I really don't see her going to work. Maybe they'll all be back in MB under mama's tender care.

SM's new attorney:

Mr. James C. Galmore - Assistant Public Defender

http://hgcdefender.org/about.html

A few misconducts from the SCBA with public repremand:

07/26/2010 - http://www.sccourts.org/opinions/displayOpinion.cfm?caseNo=26838

04/10/2000 - http://www.sccourts.org/opinions/displayOpinion.cfm?caseNo=25105

After reading the above two misconduct reprimands, SM's lawyer does not appear to be one who communicates in a timely fashion! Of course, the last one was in 2010, so maybe he has gotten his act together! I just cannot see that this lawyer and SM will be a good match particularly when you throw the MRS. Chatterbox into the mix. JMO. But hey, you get what they give you when it is free! Right?

I think this has probably been asked already (so forgive me), but can The State file a petition or motion for a new Judge?

(I concur with my fellow WSers who have already lamented that we could not be so lucky... :sigh: )

Asset shifting to avoid legal bills? Does anyone recall how that situation works? Elders own the property. Does Sid own the house they built and lived in?

(Remember when Heather first disappeared, and it was Christmas time, and you said keep going with it? Well, here we are 3 plus years later, Knox, hard to believe....)

Where is Heather? They obviously disposed of her very well.
