Authorities say he was “impersonating” a police officer. They also have the vehicle. It seems they would know by now if he was actual LE.

I agree! The degree of planning this took is incredible. It wouldn’t be that hard to buy a police vehicle at auction or even make a standard vehicle appear to be legitimate.

This is also early reporting and it was dark. So I expect the details to evolve to some degree.

How could someone who wasn't a police officer, get his hands on an official vehicle complete with lights and labels without it being reported? No officers realized their vehicle had been stolen? Seems odd. MOO MOO MOO

Good question. Possibly they bought one, but I’m not sure it would have lights on it. Seems you can buy just about anything these days. I live in Minnesota and this situation is extremely sad and terrifying. I hope they find the person soon.

Not sure on the first, LE “proactively” went to the second location to check and found the suspect coming out if the house - cop car with lights on in the driveway.

It’s my understanding that there wasn’t a 911 call from the second house. Officers did a welfare check because they lived nearby.

Law enforcement was first called around 2 a.m. local time on Saturday with reports that someone had shot Minnesota State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife. Police responded to their home and provided life-saving measures before the couple was transported to the hospital, according to Drew Evans, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension superintendent.

Around 3:35 a.m., another call came in when officers were proactively checking on Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman’s home.

When Brooklyn Park police officers arrived, they noticed that there was a police vehicle in the driveway with emergency lights on and what appeared to be a police officer at the door, coming out of the house, officials said. That individual immediately fired a weapon at them, Evans said, and an exchange of gunfire took place, during which the suspect was able to escape.

That is why I asked who called 911 for the second house. Maybe this wording is not accurate and the second call that came in was not a 911 call?

Another call came in - which I interpret to be the officers reporting from the second location - radio call.

We’ll see how those details evolve.

It could just be the way the article was written, but LE receiving a first call around 2 and then another call came in just lead me to believe it was 2 911 calls, but it could be the reporting of what happened was also off. I also think it's possible LE was responding AND another call came in.

I was only asking because I was curious if anyone thinks if the killer was the one calling 911 and reporting his crimes.

I sure hope they catch him quickly and/or anyone else working with him. Truly scary for those in the area.

Absolutely horrible! Really scary times when something like this happens….going to the homes of lawmakers in the middle of the night pretending to be an officer and shooting them. How many more would have been shot if the real police hadn’t confronted him, then found the manifesto in his vehicle?

I’m wondering if he was able to get inside a neighbors house and is holding them hostage? There are a couple huge protests planned today and state police are asking people not to attend, but I’m sure some still will. Maybe someone picked the guy up in another car or he high jacked someone?

What’s interesting is the first call is said to be at 2:00 AM, the second report is at 3:35 AM. Yet the locations as I understand, are only miles apart? What was he doing for an hour and a half in between?

In 2020 a Nova Scotia man bought surplus police cars and recreated them to appear as authentic cop cars. Everyone thought he just had a hobby. He ended up murdering over 20 people using the cop car. So it's possible this person could have done the same thing. It's possible the guy is a crank with a score to settle. It's also possible that someone in the LE community could do the same thing. One thing stands out to me that this is the ultimate reason why LE, I don't care who it is, ICE, FBI, HS, federal, state or city cops should NOT wear coverings on their faces. This is an acceleration of political differences where someone thinks settling things through legal means is pointless.

“Given the targeted shootings of state law lawmakers that happened overnight, we are asking the public to not attend today’s planned demonstrations across Minnesota out of an abundance of caution,” Bogojevic said during a news conference Saturday while adding that “there were some flyers that said, ‘no kings’ within the suspect vehicle.”
