Assault does not require physical contact. What matters is whether someone’s actions create a reasonable fear of imminent harm. When people deliberately close distance, step into an agents path, or force a moment where the agent must stop, or push through, that behavior is no longer passive protest. It is perceived as obstruction and a safety risk to the agent.

Did the agents walk towards Alex and the two ladies, or were the three walking towards the agents? Did an agent shove one of the ladies to the ground, or were the ladies or Alex physically pushing the agents?

As an European this is beyond understandable for me . You can’t have police to execute people on the streets. He was clearly on the ground at that time surrounded by what few ICE . They could have tackled him down instead of executing him for what? It is just so wrong.

Yes, 100 % with you. It's simply unfathomable as an outsider living in a democratic country where such an obvious, reckless and lawless killing would be being prosecuted by now. But It's clear to me that many, many Americans - the majority IMO - are equally devastated and horrified by this killing and that of Renee Good last week. I support all of those people, their opinions and the steps being taken by various third parties to try and address these travesties. Moo

It’s reasonable to believe that the agents didn’t know that a firearm was in possession. I think Tricia’s friend makes a good point about the possibility of a second weapon, something I hadn’t thought about. I’m sure they’re trained for that.

That’s far more plausible than believing multiple agents deliberately set out to kill a protester for helping a woman. imo

It's a justification of a mind. They were leaning right over his prone body, in a jacket. ALLL those BIG, armed up, bundled up ....people. THEN the shots went into his back. THEM being afraid and confused is a disgusting and absurd narrative to believe, so be those that justify their mentality of such thoughts. The many close ups, slowed down show exactly what some do not want to see, why is that, who are those, who are they in life, have others around them at their jobs, communities, CHURCHES, see them for who they are when they voice that narrative now?? I hope so and back far away. IMO

I've justed watched the video below on the main BBC Ten O'Clock News on BBC1.

Ironically, if Alex Pretti had been arrested for this, he'd still be alive.

I agree with you and I’m actually surprised they didn’t arrest him during this incident, since he purposely caused damage to the officers car. He could have definitely been legally arrested for that.

We know that he had a previous run in with ICE during which he got a broken rib. Could this be a video of that incident?

IMO I can’t help but wonder about one concerning element in this latest shooting incident of AP.

IIRC the armed ‘agents’, whether ICE (Immigration & Customs Enforcement) or CBP (Customs & Border Patrol) are masked. They are suited up and wearing masks or other face-covering items. Their faces are not revealed.

Could this lead to actions that one might not take if they were fully exposed? Does the ability to ‘mask’ or secret behind a mask or cloth add a perceived element of impunity? Does it contribute to actions being taken due to a belief that one is not readily identifiable?

Perhaps those ‘agents’ should be identifiable. As they are acting on or behalf of the US government or another entity.

In terms of the allowed or legal aspects, IIUC there appear to be differences between whether an ICE or CBP agent can wear a mask while conducting official business. It seems that CBP cannot, whereas it might be a question regarding ICE.

A search of ‘is a us officer agent cbp able to wear a mask obscuring identity’ reveals some interesting results.

I can't see how anyone can watch that and not see a completely unjustified killing. Unless it's not what the person wants to see.

In my opinion, yes, the video evidence is factual enough. Again, I do not agree with my friend.
However, there are people who do not believe the video is enough. That's why we are here. To discuss the evidence in a rational and calm way. It's what we do on Websleuths.

Ten shots fired into the back of a man pinned to the ground. If the agents feel so much threatened by a man lying face down, with his eyes filled with tears from the pepper spray, that it makes them fire into him round after round, they have no business being armed and on the streets.

They had him pinned down to the ground. All they needed to do and should have been trained to do, was to search him properly. Not to shot hin ten times in the back.
