ETA to my response as yours was edited to add more afterwards. I agree that he appears to have chosen to confront and escalate things with agents in the encounter that occurred 11 days prior to the fatal encounter that is the topic of this thread. I agree that was not a wise decision on his part. On the day of his death he did arm himself as he had on the prior incident occasion. On the day in question, IMO he did not confront and provoke agents.
