Isanti, Minn., police seek public's help in locating missing woman

The Isanti Police Department reported that Amanda Jo Vangrinsven was last seen Thursday.

That night she left the Isanti VFW and went to the Dugout Bar in Bethel, Minn., with a person who has been identified. That person told authorities Vangrinsven was driven back to the area of the VFW.

Vangrinsven later did not show up for work, and her car was left parked at the Isanti VFW.

Police said her phone was turned off, with the last known possible location in southwestern Isanti County.

Vangrinsven was last seen wearing a blue Minnesota Twins shirt and jean shorts.

'This Is Concerning': Search For Missing Isanti Woman, Amanda Vangrinsven, Enters 4th Day

It appears she works at the VFW.

Search teams are out in Isanti for the fourth day, hoping to find a missing woman, Amanda Vangrinsven.

Over the weekend, dozens of volunteers searched for Vangrinsven and any clues that might lead to her whereabouts.

According to police, Vangrinsven left her workplace at the Isanti VFW with somebody on Thursday.

No information has been released on the person who was with Vangrinsven before she disappeared.

That individual is under investigation.

Volunteers say they’ll continue to search until they can bring Vangrinsven home.

With hundreds of acres left to search, additional volunteers are needed. Donations of food and drinks are also accepted.

It strikes me as unusual that they are calling on volunteers to search for AV at the same time they have identified the person with whom she was last seen and placed them "under investigation." Maybe that person is not cooperating with LE and that's why they are taking the dual-pronged approach...?

In the article above, this paragraph bothers and mystifies me:

"That night she left the Isanti VFW and went to the Dugout Bar in Bethel, Minn., with a person who has been identified. That person told authorities Vangrinsven was driven back to the area of the VFW."

"was driven back to the area of the VFW" -- Why? Was she too intoxicated to drive? Certainly a possibility. Guessing the person who drove her back to the area of the VFW had his/her vehicle at the VFW, so that's why she and car were back at the VFW -- nope, "the area of the VFW" -- now what does that mean -- "the area of..." ?

Oh, so worrisome. Following. Thanks for the thread, @mlhenn

A bit about Isanti, MN:
Isanti is a city in Isanti County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 5,251 at the 2010 census. The name Isanti is composed of two Dakota words: isan - 'knife' + ati - 'camp', and refers to the Santee Dakota people. Minnesota State Highway 65 and Isanti County Road 5 are the main routes in Isanti. Wikipedia

Seems like there's no evidence that individual ever returned her to the VFW. So makes sense for LE to start there.

It seems likely that this person is lying about driving her back to get her car so it sounds like they are being uncooperative. Focusing on a suspect early can be brought up as a defense because there could be missing clues so police will often continue to search even when they are pretty sure they know what happened unless the suspect starts talking immediately.

They left from her work so if she was too intoxicated to drive then it seems more likely that the other person would have driven her home instead of back to her car. "The area of the VFW" does seem odd. That could mean that she doesn't park in the VFW parking lot but somewhere nearby. It could also mean the other person was vague or refused to describe exactly where he dropped her off.

Maybe the person who claims to have dropped her off in the area is being non specific so as to have a reason to not appear on any cameras in the area. We lived in Isanti. Plenty of rural areas to “get lost in.” Might be why volunteers have been called in. Just speculating… IMO

So it's possible someone picked her off from work to grab a bite. Then said person dropped her off at her car after, and they parted ways.
Unless she is a heavy drinker or using illicit substances, I doubt she would be fall down drunk. But I don't know. I'm just thinking out loud.

"Police say her cellphone is turned off, but evidence shows her last known location was in southwestern Isanti County."

IMO cellphone off is not good. I looked at Google Maps and the phone location is away from VFW/Isanti (central southern portion of Isanti County) and Dugout Bar/Bethel is just barely out of the county. There is not much in SW Isanti County except farm land/woods.

On a lighter note.. on Saturday August 7th, Isanti had a celebration for Olympic gymnast Grace McCallum in downtown.

"the area of the VFW" -- now what does that mean -- "the area of..." ?

I believe that’s the only article that worded it that way (area of VFW).
Other articles state:
Vangrinsven was dropped back off at the VFW on Thursday evening.

Who knows! The person may have given LE a couple different “versions” of what happened.

I wonder if there are any cameras around the VFW that may have captured anything??

To Note:
•Volunteers searched hundreds of acres of land with the help of the DNR and several landowners.
•They are grid searching several areas that have been known (not exactly sure what is meant by that..areas that have been known for what??)
•searchers are looking for anything and everything. Any signs, footprints that don’t match in the middle of the woods where no one lives

Ugh, I have a bad feeling with this one and I sure hope I'm way off of what I'm thinking. Looks like only about an 11 minute drive to the Dugout Bar in Bethel. Based on the map I would take some search dogs over to the "Marget Lake State Wildlife Management Area" first:

I hope they check any deer stands too when they search any hunting grounds.

This was 3 hours ago - man under investigation has now "vanished". Volunteers continue grid searches for Isanti woman missing since Thursday
"....set up to help with search efforts, Vangrinsven left the Dugout Bar with a now identified man who "has since vanished," noting it was "completely out of character" for her to not show up for work the next morning. "
So the man has now vanished? If so, this can not be good. He is avoiding LE because something happened. or he is trying to avoid people approaching him about her?
He has been ousted in fb, so i am sure people have contacted him.
thinking out loud. my speculation

Sure hate to say this but I wish LE could have checked his car trunk KWIM?

IMOO-
It’s gone from dropping her off at VFW to in the area of the VFW because there are cameras at the VFW and they saw he never dropped her off. So he changed his story to nearby. I think that’s what triggered the searches because they are refuting his story. It’s also why he ran.
IMOO, amateur speculation.

The way I read "Isanti resident, Amanda Vangrinsven left the Dugout Bar in Bethel, Minnesota on the night of Thursday, August 5th, 2021 with an unknown (now identified) male party and has since vanished." is that she was last seen with him, he has been identified, and she has now since vanished.
