He was quite young to be admitted to a nursing home, maybe he had chronic issues?

Yeah, something was going on. At the very least there has to be someone more actively investigating this on the identity theft/fraud angle. That is a very long and expensive stay. He must have had an acute medical event (e.g. stroke) that resulted in profound disability or some sort of accident that kept him in a "nursing home" for an entire year.

With the time frames given it would be almost impossible to figure out what sort of incident happened that would end up with him in long term placement.

(gonna take a second to thank @heartanium for posting all of these interesting cases!!)

I was thinking fraud/identity theft too - I have no idea who the real "David Charles Erickson" may be, be it a fake alias or an the identity of another person. Maybe someone who has access to ancestry or another geneology site could give us more info.

If this is the case of identity theft, why? Was he running from the law? Getting away from something personal?

Either way, I took a look at some MP's out of Arizona - no one really stuck out at me besides David Joseph Klink. He went missing in 1993 (13 years prior), and matches up pretty well stat wise. According to what his sister posted on his websleuths thread, he may have been involved in gang/cartel activity, which would give him a reason to go on the run.

The only picture of him available is from when he was 15-16 y/o. It's hard to tell because the photo of David is quite young but I think the eyes and chin look similar to UP in my opinion. It seems for both David's, one of their eyes are smaller than the other. And they are both named is also David, so there's that coincidence.

Klink is listed as heavier then our UP (210 - 230 lbs) - however this potential weight change could be chalked up to stroke/other medical issues. People tend to lose weight the closer they are to passing.

Also thank you for the kind words! I try my best to look into these cases in my free time. There's so many people out who go nameless for years.
