Rest easy, Mr. Gattaino.

I see this might be one of the few cases where the "creepy" clay reconstruction is pretty accurate. The long, narrow nose and lower face, especially. The deep-set eyes too.

This identification came out of nowhere! I wonder what he was doing for 10 years.. And I for sure thought he'd be of Lebanese descent due to the coin he was found with, but his name screams Italian origin.
RIP Louis.

Knowing that Louis was from Omaha where Bell said the wallet was lost, I wonder if there could still be some connection between the two.

Ex-Omahan Charged Louis A Gattaino a former Omahan was charged Tuesday with the robbery of an Omaha bank last fall He was arrested in New York City in connection with an attempted bank robbery there
This photo resembles the reconstruction of him more. Also, interesting possible history with the bank robbery.

From what I've seen, the newspaper articles never explicitly state what exactly happened in connection with the bank robberies. Perhaps he skipped town while out on bail and was just hiding out for 10 years before his murder?

New article:

Then, they found a sister and half-brother who provided DNA samples for the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to test and compare.

That confirmed Louis Gattaino, a once infamous bank robber in the 1960s was their missing family member.

According to an article in the New York Daily News in 1966, Gattaino demanded $96,000 from a Park Avenue bank, but he was arrested after the bank teller overpowered him and his gun fired into the counter.

The then-20-year-old was also charged with robbing a bank in Omaha, his hometown.
