Police have already charged two suspects in connection with the disappearance of Christopher Rossing -- but his family believes more people were involved. Meanwhile, some of the witnesses in a town that is coming to terms with the arrest of a man many knew as "BJ" are speaking out about what they saw the night Rossing vanished.

Police believe Robert Nuttall knocked Rossing unconscious before putting him inside an SUV and taking him to an unknown location after a night of drinking at area bars. One of those bars is Trouble's on Highway 12, the main road through Howard Lake. The bartender who was working that night told Fox 9 News she saw Nuttall that night -- and that he seemed upset.

It's an excruciating time for Christopher Rossing's family and friends. There have been no signs of the 25-year-old who they believe is dead. There are but two tangible items in this tragedy: There's one man in jail charged with kidnapping, and there's a little town with a big secret...

On Sunday night, family and friends brought in a little candlelight and held a vigil for Rossing, because these have been dark days...

After searching most of the day, the vigil was a rare and brief pause for friends and family. It was a quiet moment of love in a town that has been too quiet.

Sunday morning, a search veteran with 25 years of experience is joining volunteers. The veteran is giving tips, providing information on possible search locations, and offering anything else he can to help in this search.
Rossing's sister says investigators found her younger brother's shoes and car, with the keys still in the ignition, at a Sinclair gas station in Howard Lake five weeks ago. Since then, they've run out of leads.

I don't know how many here are following this case, but it doesn't seem to be very active. Does anyone know if they have searched closer to Hutchinson, or if they plan to? With both of the suspects being from there, and I believe she said CR was unconscious in the car when she was dropped off, it seems like a reasonable place to look for him. MOO

What we know
Christopher Rossing and Robert Nuttall first met and had drinks together at the American Legion in Howard Lake. The two were later involved in a fight at 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 23 along Highway 12 west of town....

...Butcher told police her boyfriend, severely beat Rossing after Rossing came after him along Highway 12. Nuttall then sat Rossing in the backseat of their Ford Expedition on their way home, and Butcher noticed Rossing wasn't moving. Nuttall then dropped Butcher off and later claimed to have taken Rossing home.

State and local authorities have focused their investigation on a farm in McLeod County in their search for a man missing since August.

The farm southwest of Hutchinson is near the home of a man charged with kidnapping 25-year-old Christopher Rossing of Albion Township. Officers from the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension as well as deputies from McLeod and Wright counties searched the farm for about six hours Monday.

From your link:

The discovery was made in a corn field across the street from the farmhouse where the kidnapping suspect lived with his girlfriend, south of Hutchinson, Minn., in McLeod County...

Butcher is out on bond, and was staying at that farmhouse as recently as Saturday. That's when she called police on volunteer searchers getting close to her property -- the same day the discovery was made.

Evidence recovered from fire pit

- Knife inside of a garbage bag
- Several keys on a keychain
- Multiple possible bone fragments
- Teeth
- Axe
- Ice chipper
- Shovel
- Cell phone SIM card
- Soil sample
- Debris...

On Oct. 13, the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the bone fragments collected had evidence of fresh bone burning. The bones analyzed by the medical examiner appeared to be from a human skull, toe, foot, spine and hip. Since the bones were burned, DNA could not be extracted.

I think it may be just about time for someone to start talking.

What I don't understand is why Nuttall went out to have drinks with Rossing and he and Rossing later got into a fight over Nuttall's live in girlfriend. If they knew each other well enough to get drinks, would Rossing have really hit on Nuttall's gf? Seems more like a setup to me.

There seems to have been another woman involved other than Butcher; this article offers some clarification (BBM):

According to a Wright County criminal complaint, Nuttall and Rossing had argued on-and-off at the Legion over a woman Rossing ultimately left with to Trouble's Bar that night.

Trouble's is where Nuttall later showed up arguing with his girlfriend, Gwen Butcher. The charges against Nuttall detail Butcher's account of the incident.

Oh my gosh :(

IMO, they should have checked that residence immediately! So sad it took two months.

Wonder if those keys fit Rossing's car?
