Sigh.So the police officer is the victim in this case?

I really don't think that's what they are saying. I took it to be a police officer now in general no matter where they serve.

Several police officers in just this past week alone have been shot.

Three officers were shot in my state of Georgia a couple of days ago, and there have been more than those three shot in such a short amount of time.

Jmho tho

Or how about we give better training to officers so they don't become judge, jury and executioner?
I am not saying that what happened was right. Potter was probably the senior officer and she was probably aware of the warrant.

I suspect she feared for her officers safety. (The po cuffing him did look like he had it under control but...he did a rather lackluster job of patting him down, and that may have been why the other officer intervened and DW flipped and got back in his car.)

Tazing him would have been entirely appropriate. The officer mistaking her gun for the taser was in my mind, incompetent. I would fire her too. She escalated the situation and she was a bit out of control. It pains me to say that but she blew it even if there was no intent on her part to kill him.

EXCLUSIVE: Daunte Wright had a warrant out for his arrest for attempted aggravated robbery charges after 'choking and holding a woman at gunpoint for $820 in 2019,' court papers reveal

  • "Daunte Wright was shot dead by Brooklyn Center Police Officer Kimberly Potter Sunday after he was pulled over for 'expired license plate tags'
  • DailyMail.com can reveal that Wright, 20, had a warrant out for his arrest for attempted aggravated robbery charges at the time
  • Charging papers allege Wright and a second man, Emajay Driver, attended a party in December 2019 at the home of two women in Osseo, Minnesota
  • The women allowed the pair to crash after they said they didn't have a ride home
  • The next morning, after one of the women went to withdraw $820 in rent money, Wright allegedly held her at gunpoint and demanded she give him the cash
  • His bail was originally set at $100k with orders that he should not contact the victim or any witnesses, refrain from drugs and alcohol and not have any weapon
  • It was revoked in July last year due to his 'failure to not possess a firearm or ammunition' and not keeping in touch with his probation officer
  • DailyMail.com has also learned that online speculation that Wright did not know there was a warrant out for his arrest is false "

here we go with the smearing the victim headlines. no one said he was the best person on earth. he however was fleeing not fighting and didnt need to be shot.

Sorry, but I completely disagree with this. In general, I am polite and respectful to everyone when first encountering them. But if they act like an a$$hole for no reason — why should I show respect?

Cops aren’t the president. THEY WORK FOR US!!

I have encountered so many cops with a chip on their shoulder and it’s completely unacceptable. Let me give you an example - I have an expensive luxury sports car that draws attention from cops. Last year I got pulled over for holding my cell phone in my hand. Totally my fault. I was searching an address on Google maps. I took full responsibility and was polite to the cop. He leaned all the way into my car, got right in my face, and said, “you spent all this money on this thing, doesn’t it have Bluetooth?”

(I do realize that is completely a white person problem and I’m not in anyway trying to compare that to the problems others are experiencing. I’m just trying to make the point that sometimes police officers can be unnecessarily rude, and I should not be expected to be polite in return. I pay their salary. I did something wrong, I deserved the ticket, I was gracious about that. He should have been polite and gone on his merry way instead of choosing to be a d!ck.)

And yes, it has Bluetooth. But that’s literally not how Google maps works. Duh.
There are creepy cops, no doubt. What he did was sexist imo. I probably would have smiled, written down his name and reported his behavoir to the P.D. I mean, how else will the brass know that their cops are acting creepy unless you say something?

“I’m not going to weigh in on legal or law enforcement actions. We’ll leave that to the courts and law enforcement authorities on the ground,” Psaki said during Wednesday’s press briefing.

Kim Potter, the Brooklyn Center police officer who resigned from the force after the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Wright, was charged with second-degree manslaughter in his death earlier today, Washington County Attorney Pete Orput said.

“All of these incidents … are just a reminder that too often in the is country law enforcement uses unnecessary force and too often that results in the death of Black Americans,” Psaki said.

The vehicle was not registered to DW, it was still owned by the mother, IIRC. It was she who had an expired registration, not her son. So how would LE know that the driver had outstanding warrants until they checked his driver's license? If they had checked their computers it would have shown the mother was the one who hadn't updated the paperwork. It appears the 'pretext' rule was what triggered the stop, not the expired registration. Unless they thought a black kid driving a white woman's vehicle was suspicious.

I have a question.
Was the warrant from 2019 case the one which they found to be outstanding?

His mum stated he had told her in their last communication that LE were asking questions about his insurance to which she replied that she would explain to the police. It appears she never got that opportunity.

Again it is impossible to even begin to guess at the events or conversation that preceded his death on the current state of available information.

If the police see a car with expired tags, you're getting pulled over. That is going to happen regardless of who you are. Then when the talked to him and got his DL info, the warrant would show up.

Question, the body cam footage was released very quickly in this case. Is this a usual occurrence, or was it released more quickly in this case, and if so, why? Thanks in advance.

*kind of a weird question, I know. I’m not sure why I’m asking, just thought it was interesting how it was released (not leaked) so quickly.

I’m thinking maybe to show to people the “accidental nature”?

Are you asking how long is the delay in renewing registrations, or how long it takes an officer to find out if a tag is expired.
Yes.
That is my question.
