RPD talks missing person cases, updates David Janson case

''New Clues

There are new clues in the case of 72-year-old David Janson. He’s been missing since early Friday morning.

Monday we learned his car was spotted at a Hy-Vee in Austin. By Tuesday, police found the car in Austin, but Janson was not in it.

There isn’t much else to go on, making the case difficult.

“He doesn’t have his cell phone to track and he’s not using his financial transactions,” Weber said.

He believes finding Janson will be up to community members helping out.

Weber said if you see someone that looks out of place or confused, question it and call police. Janson might be on foot in the Austin area.

One tell-tale sign might be what Janson is wearing. He was last seen in a bright red fleece jacket and black sweatpants. However, with the cold temperatures here, that jacket could be a flag for anyone looking out for him since he isn’t dressed for the weather and hasn’t used a credit or debit card to buy other clothes or get cash.

If you see David Janson or know anything about his whereabouts, you’re asked to call the Austin PD, RPD, or 911 to get Janson medical attention immediately.''

Find David Janson

Posted 9 hours ago by the admins of the official page:

Small update + ask for camera footage review. Last night we were contacted that a home owner near where David left his car can see the car and David on their camera.

The car was originally left on the corner of 2nd Street SW and 3rd Ave SW. (Family had to move the car.)

David started walking towards 4th Street SW.

We’re asking people in the area to review their camera recordings for the 24-hour period: Sunday October 25th at 10:30 PM to Monday October 26th at 10:30 PM.

Police: Body found in Austin, may be missing Rochester man
[...]

At about 1 p.m. on Tuesday, police were contacted by volunteers searching the Cedar River near Marcusen Park for 72-year-old David Janson, according to a news release from the Austin Police Department.

APD said the volunteers were family and friends of Janson. They reportedly told police they had found what they believed to be a body submerged in the river behind the Marcusen Park baseball stadium.

The Austin Fire Department also responded to the scene. Police said the body was recovered from the river and matched the last known description of Janson. Documents belonging to Janson were also located on his person, authorities said. APD said there were no signs of foul play, and the investigation is ongoing.

[...]

So sad. :( Prayers for this family.

Wow, I didn't expect that at all. With the picture of him grocery shopping and stuff, I thought maybe he was just out doing his own thing. Prayers to his family.

So sad. Condolences to his family.
I've canoed down the Cedar River several times, and know that area he was found. It is a part of the river that swings behind a ball park stadium located within a city park, and is hidden from sight. There is a canoe launch there. It's curious he was there as he likely had to have gone in at that spot as the river is too shallow and rocky in most parts so I can't see that he went in further north and was carried to where he was found.

Given that he grew up in that town there could be multiple reasons he went to that park. Just very sad.
