MN - Dentist Kills a Tame Lion- Catches Heat, July 2015

This is a good article (for a change!) from SF Gate --

Cecil had an intriguing story, making him a celebrity in Hwange. He arrived as a kind of lion refugee, alone and wandering after being displaced from another territory. Cecil befriended another male lion, Jericho, and together they grew and watched over two prides, one with three lionesses and seven cubs and another with three lionesses.

Cecil's killing will have an impact on the area, explained Stapelkamp, a field researcher for an Oxford University study on lions.

Well, it was a site called godlikeproductions, reporting that Jericho is alive and well. I hope it's accurate.

(CNN)Conflicting reports emerged Saturday on whether Jericho, the brother of slain Cecil the lion, was also killed Saturday in an illegal hunt in Zimbabwe.

Johnny Rodrigues, a senior park official and head of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, told CNN that a hunter illegally gunned down Jericho in Hwange National Park.

The task force also reported on its Facebook page that Jericho was killed at 4 p.m. local time.

Later, however, an Oxford University researcher tracking Jericho told CNN that the lion was alive and moving as of 8 p.m. local time Saturday, based on the GPS data from the animal's collar.

The GPS device didn't suggest that Jericho was killed or that anything was out of ordinary, said Brent Stapelkamp, a field researcher who is part of a team tracking Jericho in Zimbabwe.

Grhhhh.....The African lion is not considered an endangered or threatened species by the US govt. So unlimited scalps can be sent back here.....I just don't get this.......

(The title of the article is a bit misleading, but I paste it due to copyright. It does discuss possible federal law with regards to overseas bribery - but for now importing endangered lion heads is perfectly legal because they aren't endangered in the US)

The Alleged Lion Killer Could Be Tried in the U.S.
http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slat...he_can_be_tried_in_the_u_s_or_extradited.html

If the "alleged lion killer" is tried in the U.S. we can expect the same "justice" that the American vet received for happily killing a domestic house cat pet with a bow and arrow.

Sounds like they should charge him with attempted poaching of an elephant and attempted trafficking in ivory too, based on the post about him inquiring about a certain elephant with a 63 pound tusk. No reason to be interested in a tusk unless you plan on poaching the animal for the ivory (IMO).

The fact that Cecil - and probably many of the other animals this guy has killed - suffered for so long is what is even more appalling to me. That and how he's showing himself for the coward he really is. ETA IMO a hunter should always respect the life s/he is taking. To let any animal suffer for 40 hours is in no way an honorable kill. A lion wouldn't let its prey suffer that long!!! If the dude thinks he's so morally right in what he did, he should be standing up in the court of public opinion and defending himself.

I think I have become depraved because right now I'm thinking that this "Dentist" should be covered with animal blood and dropped into lion territory with very hungry lions in it, with no weapons of any kind, and left to fend for himself.

As you can tell, I've lost my patience with some of the human species and the horrendous things that they are capable of doing to other humans, babies, animals, anything that breathes.

He's just making this worse for himself by hiding out. It just fuels the flames that are already there by being such a coward. If he really thought he had done nothing wrong, he would be out front and center and defend himself. I have a feeling he's consulted with an attorney and found out its possible he may be extradited to Zimbabwe. I have a feeling the next photo of him that we see won't have that big grin smeared across his face. Someone knows where he is. Time for them to do the right thing because he's going to stay hidden and hope this goes away. JMO

Wow.......he is actually the "hunted" now?

So let's go ahead and ruin someone's life because they did something we don't agree with. Why is this even news?

Oh maybe because we as the human race are suppose to be a civilized species?

Yeah but then there's this from the link Always Amazed posted:

"Authorities in Zimbabwe have charged Palmer’s guide and a nearby land owner with poaching in connection with Cecil’s death. They also announced they are actively looking for Palmer, threatening to arrest him for his actions."

'Actively looking for Palmer' sounds like they're trying to hunt him down. I wonder what it will take to lure him out of his 'safe place'.

This all sounds so familiar.

BBM: Probably another receptionist.

Seth MacFarlane

When a child kills an animal for fun, we fear mental illness. When an adult with the capacity to reason does it, we call it "sport." ‪#‎Cecil‬

Oh goodness my Facebook feed is now being inundated with posts about how people care more about lions than starving children. As if a person can't be concerned with more than one thing. Blech.

Yeah I am seeing that as well, on discussion boards. A lot of splash back is now coming from- you name it- anti abortion fanatics, gun nuts, ditto heads, etc. Apparently a sizable portion of the human race does not understand what the big deal is. Trust me- this guy is counting on waiting out the outrage so he can just resume his life and work his way through the endangered species list.

I'll admit....it has bothered the heck out of me that more people know about this one lion than the combined people who are aware of Deer Island Doe or the Suitcase Doe in Australia. I have close to 1000 FB friends. None of them....NONE....have shared Deer Island Doe's flyer but me, while hundreds of them have posted something or another about this lion.

Why? Because "tame" lions don't get killed every day, but little girls do and no one bats an eye anymore. That's just the truth. I see daily posts about mistreated or lost animals, but yet if it wasn't for my WS membership, I wouldn't even know the names of many of these abused or murdered children. I've posted the same on my FB and I got responses like "well, people can care about both." Totally....but those same people? Show me where they've shared anything about the atrocities towards children on their timeline. Yeah....it's not there. It may not be everyone, it may not be my fellow WSers, but from my perspective, lots of people have their priorities WAY out of order. #humanlivesmatter

Lol do I know you IRL? I'm one of the people who posted about caring about both, but I actually have posts about all sorts of atrocities, as well as walk the walk action-wise, so I suppose I can't relate to your thousand friends.

Caring about children and animals aren't mutually exclusive. The people posting that stuff on my feed either post a lot of thought provoking things and posted it for discussion or are holier-than-thou and also post things about how people shouldn't be allowed to have food stamps or how much government interference they think exists. So...tomato tomato.

I'm another one that cares for all species. Sentient beings are all equal to me. For those that don't feel the same way, think about this: If our oceans and animals die, we die.

Nope. LoL.....because I'm sure you would have posted at least one missing or murdered child in the last 8 years.

My FB friends are obviously oblivious to the plight of humans. Most of them are still arguing about the stupid flag or whipping and Nae nae-ing. Real braniacs, I'm telling ya!!!

Like I said, those of us here at WS obviously care about people, too. But seriously....why wasn't there the same outrage for little Deer Island Doe from the "general public?" Demand for her murderer? She's a human child, for Heaven's sake!!!! A poor, defenseless, baby...
