MN MN - Ione Rehwinkle, 23, Rochester, 1 January 1952

There was a police report. It was lost or destroyed a long time ago.

That is unfortunate, the reason I don't buy the abduction by sailors story is that Rochester, Minnesota is nowhere close to a major waterway, why would a group of sailors hanging out there, I suspect that these was just some stories adult made up for their children, these adult know more

I believe the theory where she was kidnapped in her front yard.

I believe the theory where she was kidnapped in her front yard.

I think the family told her son that she was either kidnapped by some sailors frequented her bar or she was kidnapped in her front yard. I seriously doubt the sailors part of the story, and that makes me doubt kidnapped in front yard too

Well we know by now that Ione is likely deceased. I feel that foul play was involved in her disappearance. She doesn’t seem like the type to abandon her son.

I agree that she is likely deceased, but I would say circumstance unknown.

Maybe her family kept it a secret so that it wouldn’t get into the newspapers. They may have thought that this would stop the kidnappers from harming Ione or killing her.

And kept it as a secret for decades ?

They may have been holding hope that she survived her kidnapping and that one day she would come back to them.

My guess is the circumstance around her disappearance had certain kind of scandalous elements like affair or hanging with wrong crowd ?,they of course told what they knew to LE, since we were told there were a police report, but they did not want to tell what they knew to the next generation

May not be worth anything but in the 1950 Rochester City Directory Ione and Robert lived with Ione's mother Mildred at 418 1/2 1st ave SE apt 5.
He was a salesman and Mildred work at Model Landry

Ione father filed for divorce on grounds of desertion in 1950...which makes me wonder if something else was going on..

According to her daughter in law

My husband is Iones son, As for her marraige to Robert Rehwinkle they were divorced before she disappeared, My husband has the Rehwinkle last name but he claimed he was not his father but was his sisters father. My Husband (Dave) has given his DNA to the Doe network about 5 years ago. That is the only picture he has of his mother.

I do think something else was going on

Iones disappearance is complicated in many ways.

  • #96
I think it’s still solvable.

  • #97
I absolutely believe its solvable.
I wonder if she still lived in the same apartment at the time of disappearance? that makes me doubt the story about being grabbed in the yard because surely she would have screamed and someone in another unit would have said something.

Quite a few people were abducted in their front yard or apartment parking lot without raising any attention.
