I was thinking about Jared.

The perp asked Jared if Jared recognized him.

So, there was potential of recognition.

But why was the perp not concerned that Jared may recognize him at a later time?

Perhaps the perp was leaving the area forever to move far away?

Maybe he was going to have to kill him if he said yes? Maybe he had to kill Jacob because he was his neighbor and recognized him. Even with a mask.

I don't think whoever did this got a thrill out of murder, it was just necessary. and if Jared's attacker was just some stranger he wouldn't have asked if he recognized him. It was a member of the community who would be recognizable to kids. Hmmm, who could that be?

Seems like a logical connection to DR. However, it is likely that investigators have shown Jared a large amount of photographs of DR, being that DR is the only POI in Jacob's abduction. Moreover, Jared has likely been exposed to the media reports on DR. Yet, Jared has never identified DR as the prep. Then again, it IS stearns county police we are talking about! I wouldn't be surprised if they never followed and interviewed Jared about the DR connection.

Did a rural fire department respond to either of Dan's fires? If so, has anyone looked at their records to see the cause of these blazes?

I asked Dan about the buildings just to the left of the red arrows, which are no longer there. He said the larger one was a machine shed with a dirt floor that was used for storing farm equipment. The smaller one was his dad’s wood shop that had a cement floor. There’s also a small white outhouse to the east of the shop. Those buildings burned down in early June of 2009. I asked if they had been burned down intentionally, or if they had caught fire. He said they had caught fire, and though the fire marshall wasn’t able to determine the exact cause, they figure it most likely was an electrical fire. It started in the wood shop and spread quickly to the rest of the buildings. He said it definitely wasn’t intentional. The Rassiers lost a lot of machinery, antiques, wood shop machines, and several of his father’s projects.

A sketch of Jared's abductor was released about 3 weeks after it happened (sketch on the left). The abductor was described as in his late 30's / early 40's, about 5' 8" tall, 170 lbs with a small pot belly, dark hair, and a large nose and ears. He was driving a newer 4-door blue car. The man was wearing camouflage military style clothing. He was wearing a brown baseball cap - I can only presume that this early sketch showed him wearing a military style cap to give readers an impression of what he might look like everyday. (by the way, the 1st sketch solves 1/2 of the mystery of SelTel's post #933, #4, page 38)

Interestingly, about 2-3 weeks after Jared's abduction a woman in a car was pulled over by a man impersonating a police officer, near Buffalo, MN. The physical description of the man was similar to that of Jared's abductor, except that he was wearing an "official looking" overcoat and wire rim glasses. He was driving a blue car - the woman walked with the "officer" back to the car, but then fled when the car did not appear to contain police equipment.

Maybe the same perp, maybe not - but there are some similarities there. In any case, it's interesting how the sketch of the perp in Jared's cased evolved from February to October 1989, particularly in light of LE's conclusion that Jared's and Jacob's kidnappings were related.

I am not sure about the conclusion that LE concluded that Jared and Jacob were related.

As I said before, there was a laborer on a turkey farm in Paynesville that was found to have molested tons of boys. He was found to have nothing to do with Jared or Jacob, for whatever reason. i have not been able to find any stories about that online,

Then we have all of the pervert priests in the area. There are so many pervs and then there are the ones that have not been caught.

BTW, Sel Tel's pics are very disturbing. The photos could be of someone's ex husband who Sel Tel is trying to get into trouble, for all we know,

In related news to your questions, human, there was an article in our paper this week that the man who runs that "behind the pine curtain" site was invited by St. John's to come back for his class reunion. He flew in and was sitting with some old classmates talking, and he was creating NO problems. St. John's had some officials ask him to leave and escorted him off the campus. So he's obviously struck a nerve with them by reporting on all their pedo priests and monks. Pretty sad, to invite him and then order him to leave.

Of course, St. John's has also ordered Josh Guimond's dad off the campus several times, and he's just trying to find out what happened to his son.

The St. John's cabin is in Northern MN somewhere, I'm not exactly sure where anymore, although I can check for you.

FYI - source of the early sketch of Jared's abductor is the Feb 5, 1989 St Cloud Times. A news release by the Tri-County Crime Stoppers offered a $1,000 reward for info leading to the arrest of that man.

The article about the woman pulled over by the police officer impersonator was also in the St. Cloud Times, Feb 1989, I'm unsure of the date.
