Minneapolis woman reported missing, apartment door found ajar with belongings inside - Bring Me The News
[...]

Marshik lives in an apartment building in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood, which has a secure front door. But Minnesota United says the door to her apartment was found unlocked and open, with all of her belongings still there — purse, wallet, phone, laptop, backpack, plus winter boots and jacket.

While she often walked to shops, bars and restaurants in the neighborhood, it is uncharacteristic for her to not be dressed for winter, Minnesota United says.

[...]

Minneapolis Police Department PIO Garrett Parten told Bring Me The News the case is active and open, with investigators currently working with Marshik's family members. The department is expected to release more information soon.

I think this is her in 2012.

Meet the New 2012 PhD Cohort! I grew up in New Brighton, a suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota. I majored in Psychology and English at Hamline University, which is only about 20 minutes away from New Brighton. During my senior year one of my professors was writing a book on stigma and mental illness and offered students the chance to do their honors research to potentially contribute to the book. She also had access to children at a private school, and I thought I should take advantage of the opportunity as research with children is very difficult with the resources of a small private university. In the end, my experiment yielded fewer significant results than I had hoped, but for a good reason: participants were actually more tolerant than expected. After I graduated in 2008 I moved to Iowa City and worked as a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant in a locked adult inpatient psychiatric unit at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. I originally pictured private practice as my sole career goal; however, working at the hospital exposed me to the many negative aspects of the mental health system. Additionally, although I really liked my job and most of the people I worked with, I also witnessed numerous expressions of stigma, from all levels of professionals, toward people with mental illness. My experiences at the hospital led me to pursue a PhD because I felt it would provide the most opportunities to contribute to change. Broadly, my career goals now extend to a desire to conduct research, teach students, supervise practice, and promote advocacy. In a general sense, I am interested in decreasing all forms of stigma and discrimination and so UMKC’s focus on multiculturalism and diversity became a major factor in my decision to pursue a degree at UMKC. Thus, my research interests also include feminist, multicultural, LGBT, and other related issues. For fun I have always loved video and computer games, but I also like to get up and move around. I spent many awesome vacations near the Minnesota North Shore hiking through the wilderness and skiing and snowboarding down Duluth’s Spirit Mountain. I love to travel and have had multiple opportunities to go to Europe. I played in the Hamline University orchestra, and (in hopes of starting up again) I brought my cello with me to Kansas City.

I don't follow social media so I don't know if there is a boyfriend/girlfriend involved. My best guess at this time is a significant other abduction, political abduction, or random abduction. Hoping this is not the case and she will be found safe. Seems like someone I would like and could identify despite our age difference.

Wondering what, if any significance Jessica's trip to Kansas City might play in her disappearance?

The missing items are things no woman would intentionally leave behind for an extended amount of time, IMHO. I would NEVER leave my house without my keys, in particular. Unfortunately, I don't think she will be found unharmed. JMHO

She seems like a person who may befriend or at least be nice to someone who may not be a good person.

She certainly led an interesting life which should have made her aware of those with bad intentions, but maybe she was fooled this time. Or maybe she wasn’t fooled and that was the problem.

According to her Facebook it seems she has family in Kansas City but moved in 2012 back to MN where she now lives and works (for RJN it would seem).

Marcy-Holmes is in N Minneapolis next to the U of M campus and only blocks off the river.

she is nice to a fault, and has been naive about some of the company she's kept in the past, particularly people from kansas city and florida.

@jessfriend , when did you last talk to Jessica? Did she mention getting together with anyone over the Holidays?

If she was meeting other people, we can't put names here, just initials.

I'm not seeing anything on SM about her other then 2 articles. No searches, family speaking out to keep her name out there. Very sad. IMO

I'm wondering if a friend or acquaintance from out of town showed up unexpectedly at her apartment.

Could be.

Maybe this person asked her for help, telling her "it will only take a minute". Hence the coat, boots and accessories were left in the apartment and the door was unlocked.

The fact that she's been missing for almost three weeks is so very, very concerning.

Where are you, Jessica??

ETA: I see the temps on 12/14/21 were between 40 and 30 degrees F. Did she consider that to be warm enough to leave without an overcoat and boots?
