Deceased/Not Found MN - Jessica Jo Marshik, 36, apt door found ajar, Minneapolis, 14 Dec 2021

  • #21
Could be.

Maybe this person asked her for help, telling her "it will only take a minute". Hence the coat, boots and accessories were left in the apartment and the door was unlocked.

The fact that she's been missing for almost three weeks is so very, very concerning.

Where are you, Jessica??

ETA: I see the temps on 12/14/21 were between 40 and 30 degrees F. Did she consider that to be warm enough to leave without an overcoat and boots?

Could she have gone to a neighbors house where she didn't need shoes/coat/keys etc. If she thought she was inside the whole time and thought she was helping out someone inside the apt building. ( not sure if she was in a building, going off a picture on her FB that looks like it would be in a building. ) IMO

@jessfriend , when did you last talk to Jessica? Did she mention getting together with anyone over the Holidays?

If she was meeting other people, we can't put names here, just initials.

JMVHO.

haven't heard from her since nov 8th. she said we should catch up soon but that she was swamped. she definitely wasn't planning to disappear, because she mentioned coming to an event i'm hosting in 2022. unfortunately i have no idea what she did or who she was in contact with for the holidays.

From what I've read, she lives on the second floor. From a quick survey of Google maps it appears that most of the apartment buildings in that area have indoor hallways. It's been reported that her door was not only unlocked, but ajar. I have been trying to think of all of the possible scenarios for how this unfolded. Here is what I have come up with:

1. She left her apartment for a quick, nearby errand. Maybe she was taking out the trash or returning something to a neighbor. But why would she disappear? Was someone lurking, waiting for an opportunity? And why not pull the door closed even if your not locking it.

2. Someone came to her door and requested immediate assistance with an emergency. She seems like the type who would drop everything to help. But again why did she disappear? Was this a ruse to get her out of her apartment?

3. She may have met someone online, at a bar, or at one of the RJN rallies and had invited them for a visit, or they showed up unexpected. This would explain how they got buzzed up to her apartment. Maybe this person did not have her best interest at heart and abducted her and engaged in foul play. There was a struggle and that's why the door was ajar.

I'm leaning towards scenario #3, mainly because they needed to be buzzed through the apartments front door to get access to her apartment. MOO

Good thinking. It could also be possible that another tenant allowed a guest through the front door and someone followed that person in. MOO

You are so right! I hadn't thought of that!

yep, that happens all the time. was it a stranger who got in? or someone she invited up? or a neighbor? i can't imagine her being abducted without putting up a fight, unless she was drugged, otherwise incapacitated, or lured out of her apartment. maybe she answered a knock on her door and someone just grabbed her? i've lived in many apartments and people often become conditioned to ignore arguments and weird noises. so many possible scenarios.

it would be great if there was a security camera nearby that might show her leaving the building--alone or with someone else. i hope the authorities are investigating this to the fullest... there has to be a camera somewhere that saw something, or someone who knows something.

I would think there would be at least one camera that saw something - hoping, anyway.

I didn't read if her apt showed signs of a struggle or things were out of place?

No cameras from the hallways or anything??

she is nice to a fault, and has been naive about some of the company she's kept in the past, particularly people from kansas city and florida.

Hello.
Does she have a child??

Wondering if Jessica had a pet such as a cat?
One circumstance i could easily imagine might cause one to leave a door ajar- is because the cat/dog got out and required immediate chasing, thus leaving the door ajar and phone etc. inside the apt. speculation, imo.

the articles that have been posted all give the same info (very little) and don't mention any sign of a struggle--just that all of her belongings were left behind and that nothing appeared to have been stolen.

no, as far as i know, she doesn't have any pets. definitely not a dog. i guess there's a small chance she adopted a cat since last time i saw her, but she hasn't had any pets as long as i've known her (17 years).

no idea if there are cameras in the building or neighborhood. unfortunately i've never been to her apartment because she always came to my place to hang out instead.

I’m in Minneapolis and I just have to say the last couple of days have been about -15 F and the fact her phone wallet boots and coat are home is terrible..
its clear it wasn’t a botched robbery or financially motivated or her phone wallet and computer would be missing…
I also wholeheartedly do not think it’s political.. there are so many activists here and anti-racism is the popular sentiment. Thank god.

it really seems to me she was taken- either someone she knows (an ex? Or as mentioned a Florida or Kansas acquaintance?) or perhaps she had an apt building stalker or maybe an opportunistic act? I am starting to think there must not be cameras or at least at the right angles.

@jessfriend thank you for being here I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this type of emergency, sending you a hug! Any intense exes you know about or specific toxic situation from Kansas?

Any moving in/out by other tenants? Many scenarios possible: perp could be tenant/nutcase who planned her demise during moveout (carrying her out in a rug/large furniture), stopped by to say goodby and disabled her.

Could have been any tenant who talked their way in, did the deed then kept her in their apt. for many hours before removing her when 'the coast was clear.' Similarly a building employee with the right keys.

Very plausible scenario, wonder if any police dogs have been brought in to search the building and surrounding areas, and if the building has incinerator chutes?
