MN MN - Joshua Guimond, 20, Collegeville, 9 Nov 2002 - #2

Has this theory been considered: Josh went night hunting on the night he disappeared. That's the reason he leaves his wallet and keys ect.. Then Perhaps an accident occurred and panic sets in. Perhaps he went with a relative or friend and that's who he spoke to on the phone on 28th and made plans, to go night hunting on the weekend with and why he looked up oddites, in the woods.

would anyone start hunting at midnight though? Seems like a rather strange time to begin. Also, wouldn't he have told someone that he was going to hunt?

And would you drink approx 10 beers in the day if you were going to be out all night hunting? What about Josh's clothes. He only had a hoodie, t-shirt and jeans. Doesn't seem like the appropriate clothing for being out in the cold all night?

Also, about the phone call on the 28th, why would you arrange something 3 weeks away on the phone? Would that not have been email?

I am just presenting a counter argument to make you think this over. Also, the "oddities in the night". That is the first time I am hearing about it. What source is that from?

In Minnesota people can go night hunting, it's not specifically known how how many beers he had it's believed to be around 7 to 10 beers, the 28th would be about maybe a week and 2 days away from the time he disappeared and as far as oddites in the woods, it was looked up in the search browser history. Source: simply vanished podcast and transcript. Josh and family and some of his friends, would go hunting. Josh would engage in hunting and fishing! The alcohol consumption was spaced out among the day and one has to take in height and weight and ABV content. Take into account his computer shows him in his dorm at 11:52 pm until 12:30 am listening to music. he's then seen on the bridge by two Unknown witnesses, sometime around 12:15 or 12:30 am the search dog hit on the bridge which suggest he got into a vehicle. Now bars in 2002 closed at 1 am in Minnesota so he's not going to any bar and as far as another college campus such as the University of Minnesota. I believe they have security who would of done background check and the likelihood is he's not going to be allowed on grounds, without proper permission. In putting yourself in his psychology, ask yourself where is he going ? Maybe: night hunting ? He's scared of an incident on Yahoo chat but yet he's going to arrange a date on Yahoo Personals with someone he doesn't know and eter that person's car.

So I'm saying is what about this theory. It's the 28th he's in his dorm he is on Yahoo chat he decides to report another user for violating terms of service and then uses his dorm calling card and talks with a family member or Friend and the person on the other end talks about some strange animal that's bothering and decides to hunt it & of going out the following week to do so and ask Josh if he wants to go on a night hunt with him or her. Josh agrees he then gets off the phone and looks up oddites in the woods, and now it's nov 9th 12:30 am he's on a night hunt and a accident occurred & nothing is said. He's then reported missing and impression management is done on his computer in following days, after to get rid of the email correspondence.

According to this source hunting season permitted times were as follows: "Shootings hours for archery deer hunting are one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset. " Seeing as it's winter, the sun would be setting fairly early i.e a lot earlier than midnight. Not saying it's impossible, but this lowers the likelihood a little. Then when you combine it with what Josh was wearing, and the fact he didn't tell anyone, it seems even less likely to me.

I think you have mis-interpreted the "oddities in the woods" thing. Simply Vanished's transcript here said "So you’ve got weird stuff on Josh's computer. You've got the monk abuse scandal. You've got strange men following men on campus. Oddities in the woods, some other stuff, including chat rooms." This was a few different things the narrator was saying:

1) Weird stuff on Josh's computer
2) Monk abuse scandal
3) Strange men following men on campus
4) Oddities in the woods
5) Some other stuff including chat rooms

The transcript did not mean Josh did a search for "oddities in the woods". It means that there were reports from other students about odd things happening in the nearby woods. I can see how you've read it, but it didn't mean Josh searched for that.

So you're saying Josh calls someone on 28th Oct, arranges a hunt past midnight on 9th Nov (just under 2 weeks later) because of a strange animal? I don't follow the logic here.

Again, the podcast didn't say Josh did a search for oddities in the woods.

Why would Josh not tell anyone he was going on a late night hunt? Why not dress up properly for it? Why arrange it 12 days in advance then delete his yahoo profile? I don't think this scenario is super likely, but it's good to cover all angles.

I'll defer onto yourselves and let you all interpret how you will with what little evidence you have. It's just a theory and trying to think outside the box. In my opinion. it's one of the following (A); hook-up that went wrong. (B) Strange perverts, trying to scare and abduct college students, who he was abducted by. (C) Late night hunt that went wrong. (D) Drug overdose. I have no further theory.

I appreciate your posts and thinking outside of the box is good. I can't help but feel we're all massively over-complicating this. I've watched maybe 50-100 missing persons documentaries over the past year and I'd say 95% of them were simple cases but the reason they hadn't been solved quicker is because people were overlooking the simple stuff because it seemed too "easy". Maybe we're all thinking too out of the box? When the answer is staring us in the face?

He had on a hoodie okay maybe he had something on underneath it. It's not illegal to go on a night hunt and there are exceptions to what you can hunt. Why does he have to tell anyone where he is going! I'm just saying, let's consider a possible night hunt that went wrong of list of theories.

I do think he made it back to the dorm and was seen walking on the Footbridge and at little over 12:30 am he got in a vehicle willingly or unwillingly..

I'm trying to figure out what direction the 1st search dog and search team was in when the dog hit on the bridge near the water. If it's West: that's towards St Benedict college. So that could give you a sense of where he's walking to at 12:30 am on the bridge just before his possible abduction. That's if you consider the abduction theory.

He was a hunter and would hunt with his dad and family members and friends.

Josh's dad was a hunter, source here. And by extension, "Joshua enjoyed ice fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities with his dad." (source here).

There was actually a cap that was found by a deer hunter but it turned out not to be Josh's, source here.

Now most interestingly, CBS News did an article that stated: "He was a junior in college and that November weekend of 2002 marked deer opener. Instead of taking part in the annual hunting tradition with dad, homework kept Josh in Collegeville."

So personally, 1) I don't think Josh made it back to his dorm that night and 2) I don't believe it was a late night hunt

I do believe it's likely that Josh arranged to meet someone, or was going to meet someone.

It is true that Josh supposedly enjoyed hunting and fishing, and disappeared right around deer hunting season in 2002. And deer hunting is very popular in MN overall. However, night hunting is very illegal for any commonly hunted game in MN, especially deer. Hunters can only shoot deer from just before sunrise to just after sunset.

There are only a few exceptions where night hunting is allowed, like coyotes or nuisance animals in certain situations. Very few people do this. This is not a likely scenario.

If Josh was heading to St Bens on foot, he'd have had to cross the I-94 or there's apparently a route by foot that takes 2 hours 15 mins but looking at the route, it seems unlikely anyone would attempt it by foot. We know Josh didn't drive his own car that night, but that of course doesn't rule him out of going to St. Bens. Perhaps someone offered to pick him up and take him over to St. Bens. Question is: why would he be going to St. Bens?

I feel like everything in this case points to A) someone who lived on campus being involved or B) someone from off-campus drove on campus to meet up and being involved that way.
