Thank you for featuring Josh's case. This is a crime that will be solved from the outside -- meaning -- local law enforcement has exhibited no interest in pursuing other avenues of investigation for this case. The initial search was deliberate in its avoidance of St. John's abbey, which has an extensive docuemnted history of sexual abuse (see behindthepinecurtain website). I am afraid that the perpetrator of this crime may no longer be with us. However, I do believe there is at least one person that may be aware of what happened. I also believe it may still be possible to find evidence in the case. We just need someone to step forward and provide some information. What happened to Joshua and his family is a complete tragedy. Josh's family was terribly affected by his disappearance. The lack of support and help from the sheriff's dept. and local community has left them feeling helpless. I won't get into all the details about why, but the burden of searching for Josh has been taken over by Grandpa Bob Guimond. I am very concerned that should anything happen to him, Josh's case will slowly fade from memory. If you are able, please consider getting involved to help the Guimond family (see findjoshua website). Thank you for your caring and help. And by the way, why is it that Penn State gets severely penalized for knowing about sexual abuse, but St. John's University is given a pass? Explain to me how that is fair.

Well said. Prayers to this family!
Someone can correct me if I am wrong on this point, but I don't think universities have to report crime like cities do? It seems as if they operate in their own little world - almost like cruise ships (but that's another topic alltogether). They have their own campus police, and they sweep crime under the carpet so it doesn't interfere with their recruitment or alumni donations. JMO of course. I could be wrong on the jurisdiction assertion.
Special respect to Grandpa Bob. God Bless him.
These university officials need a big bright light shone on them. I hope they can't sleep for the guilt and shame they bring upon the university.

Well said Phantom!
I am so glad there is someone carrying on the search. I do not believe the crap that whatever happened to him is accidental. Maybe the University and locals with it have no desire to pursue it because they are worried of bad publicity?
God Bless his grandpa!

I can't find a link to this blog on the thread, but it has some interesting cases which can be accessed by various commonalities, including states.

Here's a very interesting theory created by NY detectives about the Drowning Team Serial Killers, who pray on young college men:
http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread351428/pg1

Is someone hunting males across the country, particularly in the midwest/ east region? It does not surprise me that this issue is not more well known because these are young men. If this were a string of college girls missing, everyone would know about it.

Here's a list made from the site above of a list of possible victims, including ones that have been found. All of them were pulled from the Mississippi River or lakes. Im sure not all of these are accidental deaths, even though they are ruled as such. It also looks like a majority of these young men have been found opposed to still missing, which could be because remains just put in a river and lake wont stay hidden too long compared to being elsewhere, like in the woods. If they are connected, the perp(s) seems to not care if they are recovered or not.

There must have been autopsies on these bodies. Was there any evidence of foul play?

Also, I noticed that some of these students were reported missing during the winter. Does the Mississippi River ice over in the winter? Someone in my area disappeared years ago. He was found in a lake in the spring. The theory was that he crossed the lake to get home (short cut) and fell through the ice. I'm wondering if this was a possibility with some of these cases.

Hello all, just wanted to say that technically colleges and universities are required to report on campus crimes -- but I don't know how well this law is enforced, given that St. John's has been caught in the past not reporting crimes.

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (20 USC § 1092(f)) is the landmark federal law, originally known as the Campus Security Act, that requires colleges and universities across the United States to disclose information about crime on and around their campuses. The law is tied to an institution's participation in federal student financial aid programs and it applies to most institutions of higher education both public and private. The Act is enforced by the United States Department of Education.

After reading, I believe all of these except Christopher Jenkin's case were noted "accidental".

Thank you Phantom for answering the question in my earlier post. I wonder if universities that are tied to religious entities are able to mask this in some manner. Regardless, great info and thank you.

There will be a rally in St Joseph to help bring attention to Josh's disappearance and other crimes the Abbey priests have committed. The following was copied from the family's website findjoshua.com:

A new victim has come forward to the Diocese of Saint Cloud with allegations of misconduct by a priest at the church in Saint Joseph, Minnesota. In light of this new allegation, we have decided to move the rally to December 16. The priest is a monk from Saint John's Abbey. We are gathering information and will update soon.

Please plan to join a group of concerned individuals planning to meet in Saint Joseph before and after the 8am and 10am masses on Dec 16, 2012 to rally/protest/discuss the decision by the Saint Cloud Diocese to NOT disclose to the parishioners in Saint Joseph that yet another former pastor, Father Dan Ward, has been credibly accused of sexual misconduct.

Father Dan Ward is the tenth (Yes, Tenth) monk/priest from Saint John’s who served at the Church of Saint Joseph against whom credible allegations have been made.

Ward replaced Father Tom Gillespie in 1996 when Gillespie was outed as a pedophile.

Gillespie, many will remember, spent time at the Wetterling house after Jacob disappeared. Gillespie has yet to answer questions regarding his role in the Klehr suicide.

The current pastor in Saint Joseph, Father Jerome Tupa, was Joshua Guimond’s faculty resident. Tupa has been a driving force behind the abbey’s efforts to suppress information regarding misconduct at Saint John’s, including the disappearance of Joshua Guimond.
It is time to educate and support the people of Saint Joseph!

Will you join us?

bumping for Josh and his family. Shame on St John's University, Stearns County and the monks who are covering up the information about this disappearance.

Bumping for Josh, maybe it is time to look for him again.

I think St John's University Collegeville should be SUED since Josh went missing ON CAMPUS. The roommate removed files from Josh's computer. There are 14 monks/priests who live on campus who are restricted for sexual improprieties, some with students. The sherriff's department told the family he may have been eaten by turtles in the swamp on campus! They have an incinerator on campus. This case is so frustrating. The family should SUE the University for information.

St John's University connection to both Josh Guimond's disappearance and Jacob Wetterling??
One of our Sleuthers at Websleuths uncovered a story about a sex offender in MN- David Paul Weiss who was arrested in St Paul for molesting a young boy in 1997. He had discussed Jacob Wetterling with a molestation victim. This interested us because we are researching Jacob’s disappearance. This man told the boy about a body hidden at Fort Snelling. Apparently investigators looked but couldn’t find anything. Weiss worked as a paramedic but also traveled the state of MN as a first aid instructor from 1975-1997.
Apparently, Weiss was a member of the “find a grave site” which I am also a contributor. We take pictures of headstones for people so people across the country can see the headstone and leave virtual memorials to people. Weiss created two virtual cemeteries- one to the monks of the California Missions and one to Monks/priests from St John’s Abbey.

I pray that the local papers cover Josh's disappearance with the anniversary of his going missing and bring to light the deception, lies and evil at SJU abbey.

I don't understand why the sheriff/LE hasn't wanted to investigate St. John's further, especially in regard to Josh, Jacob, (and Chris Jenkins also). Maybe they have too many ties to higher ups there. It just makes no sense why these kids disappearances aren't being looked at more thoroughly. An article on the Behind the Pine Curtain website points out all the connections between local LE and St. John's:

1) Stearns County Attorney Janelle Kendall’s children attend Saint John’s Preparatory School.

2) Stearns County Attorney Janelle Kendall’s husband, John Kendall, is currently listed as a faculty member at Saint John’s University.

3) Janelle and John Kendall give money to the Saint John’s University Annual Fund.

4) Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner and at least one of his sons reportedly attended Saint John’s University.

5) Sheriff John Sanner has been a fixture on the sidelines at Saint John’s University football games.
