It is also possible that Joshua "knew too much." As many of you know, he was in the process of researching the statute of limitations regarding sexual abuse at St. John's. What did he know? Who may have felt threatened by Joshua's research? In two months, it will be eight years since he was last seen. As each year passes, his family loses more hope that they'll ever see him again. Having to admit that they'll never see him is too hard to bear. One thing that keeps them going is knowing that there are some people who do care and continue to research, communicate, theorize and pursue help for Josh's case. It is the only thing they have, it is their hope, and it is what helps keep them sane in an insane world.

I have read the obituary of BW on Behind the Pine Curtain. Apparently he was found in a basement recreation area and had major blood loss. Wonder why.

Here is a sad case that reminds me of the above, and I don't think many people know about it. I was reading bios of the Board of Directors for the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center and found out one of the directors had a brother who was murdered by a priest, apparently for "knowing too much" about this priest's sexual abuse of boys.

that was a big story around here (Mpls/St Paul area) a few years back. The funeral director was going to confront the priest and instead the priest shot and killed him and his 22 year old assistant. I still can't believe that happened. After the priest hung himself, I knew that was a sign of guilt.

Regarding BW, I read that last week. It sounds like the Abbey is probably covering up how he died. Massive blood loss is usually caused by some sort of trauma. He was found in a locker room- probably a room with no security cameras. He was relatively young- 65. The most common cause of death for men that age is heart attack. You wouldn't have blood loss with that. I wonder what the hospital reports say. He probably took some big secrets with him to the grave. There is something really odd and sinister going on there.

Prayers for the family and for Josh.

Thanks for your posts, cbrown.

Re: BW death. If someone had a heart attack or brain hemorrage from an aneurysm and fell hitting their head on a hard surface, it wouldn't cause a large blood loss I don't think, unless someone fell from a very high place. Don't get it. Otherwise, it would have to be blunt force trauma or someone inflicting a wound, right?

The wording in the obit isn't clear. I'd have to go back and read it again.

I found documents that have more detail about this case and the life of the priest. He was torturing and killing animals from a very young age, for instance. Here he was, a priest, and he was very violent.

Thank you for your posts Jbrown. Thank you for your passion in solving this case and finding out what happened to Joshua. I said CBrown and couldn't get back to edit it in time. Sorry. Oh, well, you called me cocentric per typo and it is actually concentric.

Anyway,

Maybe I have CBrown on the mind, because when I think of MN, sometimes I think of Charlie Brown by Charles Schultz--a wonderful icon of childhood. There is a Charles Schultz theme park in Mall of America, MN, as you know...

that's ok. I knew what u meant :) Not many other Browns posting on this thread.

You would think that priests have to pass a psychological evaluation like police officers do. Both professions have to deal with the public.
Josh's case cannot get off my brain. Unsolved murders are horrible enough, but when a responsible (not high risk- not into drugs or into prostitution) adult goes missing, the poor family is in limbo. I just pray that we can find some trace of Josh somehow.

You know, people who abuse children often advance to kidnapping and murder. The book I am reading indicates at least 10% of Catholic priests abuse children (a low estimate). Who is to say that a portion of those priests aren't committing kidnappings or murders? I wonder if maybe there are pedophile groups that talk about how easy it is to get next to kids and to get away with it being a priest. As we can see that the Church has been covering up for abusers with no punishment for centuries. The word must have gotten out. This may attract other abusers to the profession. Get access to kids, free housing, food, people give you money each week.
I think it is time the Catholic Church opens the "secret files". If they aren't contacting the police when kids get abused (which is a horrendous crime), what other crimes are they keeping under wraps?

ps- sorry about misspelling your name concentric!

Gosh, Cbrown, I mean Jbrown, no problem! Best to you. Prayers for Josh's family and friends in finding out what happened.

on a whim I emailed St John's to see if they had more specifics about how Dr BW died. To my astonishment, Someone named Fr Dave elaborated unabashedly (to me, a stranger who just emailed out of curiosity). He died of a cracked skull and a broken rib that punctured a lung. I think he was attacked and killed for some unknown reason and SJU may be trying to cover up his death. Read the email response and notice how many words are guessing to what happened ("probably", "perhaps" and "I believe" were used).

this was my response:

Edward,

While going down a hallway, Fr. Bruce started having a severe nose bleed (he had been having them of late). He went to the locker room and to the sink to contain the bleeding. Next he probably turned to perhaps go to the health center before it closed and tripped over the bench directly behind the sinks and hit his head on a locker. It is believed that he got up several times and fell again on the concrete floor since there was now a great deal of blood lost. Bruce was found about 10 minutes after the fall unconscious. The EMT and ambulance were called and CPR was performed. I believe from the fall he had cracked his skull and a rib punctured his lung thus causing the massive blood loss.

Hi,

I was wondering if you could disclose how Mr Wollmering died. His obituary indicates a heart attack from massive blood loss.
Massive blood loss usually comes from a major trauma. Did he get hurt in the locker room?

Thanks.

FYI
I never received a response from Stearns county sheriff to see if they are going to make the findings public for the BW room search.

Yes, I noticed right away too. Seems like quite the chain of events.

Impressed that you made the inquiry and got the response.

Also interesting to me was the lung puncture and the cracked skull.

The reason I believe they are trying to cover up his death (besides their past history of covering up major issues like kidnappings or rapes) is that they are pretty specific in the details they believe to be true. Most people would say they don't know what happened. IMO, those injuries he sustained are consistent with a car crash or severe beating attack, not a fall. I told him that and he responded. I will have to post that email tomorrow as I didn't forward it to this computer.

ps-
my name isn't Edward. Fr David assumed it was because of the email address. I never signed by name to my email. Maybe he opened up more to me because he thought I was a male?

JBrown and others who have been following Joshua's case -- thank you very much for stepping in, and for caring. The family has, literally, been left alone to fight this battle. No one in Stearn's County wants to know what really happened to Joshua -- it would not benefit them in any way, therefore, they continue to look askance. It is a hopeless and disillusioning feeling to go up a power system as large as the church -- but then to see the church surrounded by a brick wall consisting of local law enforcement, politicians and even the community -- well, the feeling is bleak to say the least. I've been working on this case for eight years -- so have a few others. I've slowly been burning out on it -- not because I don't think it can be solved -- even though eight years have passed, and much critical evidence is by now probably gone -- I do believe people with relevant information remain right in the vicinity from which Joshua disappeared. Most likely, they are afraid to come forward. All the power is stacked against those who want to know the truth. I continue to pray that the truth will be uncovered -- and when that day comes, it will be as a result of the efforts of people such as yourselves, and Josh's family -- plus a big dose of divine intervention.

Hi. I was doing some research and I always find it interesting to contrast and compare some of the cases on websleuths with others in different parts of the world. This is an article about sexual abuse of children/Anglican Church/Australia, 2003.
