In larger cities cops do NOT like to be approached suddenly, or approached at their car unless they know you. Also, they do not like to shake hands if offered in the commission of investigating an ongoing crime.
Stay back, stay away keep your distance. Talk calmly. No sudden movements.
Do not act unstable. Even crying hysterically can be misread. :(

report said only once. If multiple times, yeah that's an issue. Not an accident. wow. this case is strange.

If you call 911 about a woman screaming during an assault cops will arrive with guns drawn and often more than one car. I've witnessed it. They don't take any chances. It's scary.
This is how I feel too in this day and age. IMO, when they arrived Noor had his gun drawn, why the safety was off I don't know, but I believe they were worried about an ambush or a perp with a weapon. Why he pointed the gun in her direction, I'll never know either unless he was suspicious. And maybe it was an accident that it went off? Too much Adrenalin? But to point the weapon at her was a BIG mistake and with the safety off... Clearly broken protocol, but I'm leaning towards an accidental firing. MOO.
And two rookies together? May be because they're having trouble recruiting and maintaining LE. I know this is a problem in my area of North Florida. LE is now visiting high schools to get recruits.
Such a tragedy all the way around. :(

While I commend you for all of your actions, I hate that this is what society has come to :fear:
So do I. I pretty much sit holding my breath when I get that call from any of my boys. I fear critical thinking skills are not what they should be in many hired by LE agencies.

yes, my officer friends friends said any sudden movements, erratic or odd behavior even hysterical crying can trigger a reaction. But, if you're a victim of a crime or afraid you may do all of those things esp run at an officer seeking help.

Sorry, but I disagree. It does matter and from what's been released so far nothing supports a justified feeling of threat. ZILTCH!!!

MOO

It doesn't mattter. If he says he felt threatened, he is justified in using deadly force to eliminate the threat. He could say she looked like a demon possessed( exactly what Darren Wilson said about Mike Brown) and no indictment... justifiable use of force. That is the power you give LEO in the USofA

Better make sure you hire good people to fill those positions of authority.

of course not. But, if it's in a dark alley and mistook a shiny cell as a gun. who knows. I really want to find out the whole story.

Probably good advice, but it should not end in your death if you do approach. After all, their cars say "to serve and protect".

Was it multiple times though? The only reports I've heard on CNN were "one shot to the abdomen". If there were multiple shots fired, then I have a real problem with this.
I also do have a problem with the lack of info in this case.

I've had 'the talk' with my son.

He's 10.

This was after I was pulled over for speeding (42 in a 35). I got a warning.

Many MSM articles have cited that she was shot multiple times (the links have been posted several times previously), although the coroner did say death was from "one shot to the abdomen". I'm assuming that means only one shot was fatal. But like you said, with so little info being released.....who really knows?

She DIED from one shot to the abdomen. Other shots that were fired, but did not contribute to her death...would not be listed by the coroner.

We have no idea if there was more than one shot. Some "sources" say there were. Only time will tell if that is the truth. If there was more than one shot fired, I agree it's a big problem!

How sad. The victim was seemingly just trying to help a fellow human that might have been in trouble.

By all accounts, Justine was a kind person who cared about injustice.

I'm not sure if I can link or quote to the comments section of Jezebel, but someone who knew her posted a lovely remembrance.

We don't know for sure how many shots were fired. She was killed by a gunshot wound to abdomen, but other shots fired may not have hit her or contributed to her death.
Seems like his partner is VERY lucky to not have been killed himself.
Sad all around.

Ah seems that Blue and I posted the same info at the same time ;)

Here, cops are required to have a 2 yr degree within a certain timeframe after hire- yet make so little, most qualify for food stamps. My youngest, who would make an excellent officer, is a pipefitter for this very reason- and the bad apples he has had the misfortune of being pulled over by- as well as the outcomes for some he knows; they get away with most everything- due to their family name.

Edited to add; I feel many of the problems with LE & the public are due to the bad cops. We ( family) all used to think highly of and respect LE . That respect has been seriously eroded. We respect they have a badge now, and can make our lives hell if they choose. The good cops are dragged down.
