or is this a good defense as suggested by an attorney for 2 cops that were in a quiet residential area of the city on a routine call. I mean seriously this was a routine call.
Depends on what all the facts of the case end up being. I don't think so but I can't say until I know all the facts. Media 'facts' are a mess when a case first breaks. jmo

Was the victim located/assisted at that time? Has anyone talked with the victim?

At the press conference last night the asst chief of police said that no one was found and they had canvassed the area and gone door to door and there was no evidence of an assault and no victim was identified. Justine obviously THOUGHT she heard something, but as it has been suggested previously, it may not actually been an assault happening. MOO

Yes, hopefully the victim is ok. Obviously Justine saw and heard a victim. That is undisputed.

This has not been confirmed and it is disputed. Obviously Justine THOUGHT she heard a victim. This was talked about at the media briefing last night. MOO

Omg yes.
It's like night and day.
People weren't getting shot by cops when we were growing up.
They even dressed different, now they dress like paramilitary and have tanks.

You know in the black communities people were absolutely getting shot by police regularly. Richard Pryor has bits and interviews about that which I won't link because the language is so offensive. But easily found on YouTube. Just google "Richard Pryor police shootings".

And rap I used to listen to in the 80's talked about it quite a bit. It's been a phenomena for minorities and in general, the poor of all skin tones, dating back to the 70's. And also police shootings of protestors that date back to the 1800's. More recently, the Ohio college shootings.

But we know more about it due to cell phones.

I think the police have an incredibly difficult job. And a dangerous one. Can you imagine going to work each day realizing you could die that day? I also think most are doing a good job.

But it seems like there are some problems with training, weeding out those attracted to police work for the wrong reasons and a general us against them
mentality that goes both ways.

I think about the police in my mom's country- Holland. You can actually argue with them. I've seen cop shows in England and it seems the same there as well.

And I watched the Dutch police go in and end a hostage situation involving a terrorist who was armed who took over a tv station. If that had happened in the US the guy would've been killed instantly. The cops there, however, have preserving life as most important. They came in and with words and quick maneuvering, protected the hostage, got his gun and arrested him. Zero casualties.

I was floored. I mean the dudes weren't even wearing full riot gear:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EpTD9vLZbEw

(The good stuff starts when there's about a minute and a half left. The guy is talking to the hostage who is pretending that they are setting up a broadcast opportunity so he can broadcast his demands on national tv).

Near the end of the alley, a “loud sound” startled Harrity.

So, Harrity issued the statement.(supposedly)

I'm thinking this may have been more about 'reverse r acism'... since the cop (Noor) is recently from Somalia (afaik, he is NOT a U.S. citizen -- bad move for the MN PD);
and he most likely shot Justine out of hate for her skin color and no other reason.

In which case the entire Minneapolis PD is at fault for knowingly hiring a loser.... and not doing any proper background check on him.
Careless of law enforcement in Minnesota.

Background checks on cops or those training to do that job are a MUST. Or at least they should be ! Even factories and hospitals will do a background check if necessary.

Where are you getting your info???? Noor came here when he was a small child. Please provide a link to him not being a US citizen. I don't believe it has been reported either way. This is how rumours and untruths get started. If something is just an opinion, please state that....MOO

Haven't read anywhere that Noor is a citizen. And what was he doing in Somalia ? According to some news sites... it's a hotbed for terrorist training.
:moo:

Please verify your information. You seem to have an agenda to make this case about race and terrorism. Nowhere has it been suggested (except by YOU, with no links or evidence) that Noor was recently in Somalia. He was born there and immigrated to the US at a young age. Nothing is gained by spreading misinformation like you are doing. It's against the terms of this forum and frankly is insulting. This shooting is tragic, but to suggest she was shot over "reverse racism" or "terrorism" is unsubstantiated. MOO

As I've posted earlier... ElleyMae corrected this misinformation. Early news reports are sometimes wrong as well.

No one is trying to insult.
It's been substatiated that this Noor is a U.S. citizen and there has been no evidence to suggest this was reverse racism.
Not saying it couldn't happen, though.

Imo; Noor was just not trained well.

just confirmed that he had the gun out in his lap...have to wonder if that is protocol on a routine call?

I wonder what his partner thought about that.

http://abcnews.go.com/International...-fired-fatal-shot-moments-loud-sound-48716962

"Television station KSTP, citing a source it did not name, said the two officers thought they were being targeted for an ambush when they heard a pounding noise on the driver's side. Noor had his gun in his lap."

Now it's a pounding noise? I'm taking this source's info with a grain of salt. The source may be Noor's friend. Or maybe it's true and it was Justine cause she snuck up without a word and started pounding on the door, but that's really doubtful.

If Harrity and Noor feared an ambush, why didn't they call for backup? Why didn't they turn on their body cams? Is it even allowed for a cop to unholster his gun in the car?

From the transcripts of her 911 call, she wasn't sure if it was an assault or people were having sex. Perhaps they were actually having sex and then left.

I have never heard of a cop having his gun out on his lap for a routine call.
Afaik; their guns are holstered and the safety on ; until it's necessary for the policeman to draw his weapon.
Wow.
I'm wondering if his safety was on or if he had it off ; and if this was commented on by his superiors ??

That's not true at all. Justine never actually claimed to have seen anyone. She claimed she heard something that could have been an assault or sex noises. As no victim came forward as far as we know, quite possibly there was no victim and maybe there were just people having sex that she heard.

I don't think cops have a safety on their guns anymore.

If they were responding to a rape, how did he not know it was the rape victim running up to the car for help? Shameful. If this guy "startles" so easily he should have never been given a gun or a badge. So much for the "sanctity of life".

Exactly. This is absolutely ludicrous. If there were an actual rape (which is what they were responding to, a 911 call about possible rape), and they were looking for a victim, victim could have been the one running to the car for help. That hasn't occurred to the shooter cop?

So why didn't they turn the cams on after the shooting? Probably getting their stories straight while they supposedly gave her cpr. Also why did he shoot her twice maybe even 3 times? Why isn't the killer talking? Personally I think he killed her because she was dressed in PJ's. Also the guy on the bike who witnessed things better get a lawyer and give that lawyer all his statement. I worry that he will be killed to be silenced.

  • #819
sad but not surprised that Noor's "status" or "ethnicity" has come up. FWIW (and perhaps worth repeating) Minneapolis has the largest Somali population in the US.

He was indeed not trained well, or chose to disregard training, but the fact that he is from Somalia has zero to do with anything here IMO IMO IMO.

My heart goes out to all who knew and loved Justine. Life will never be the same.

Don't think he'll be killed but he shouldn't come forward. They will try to blame him for something. This is about the two cops in the car, no one else.

I am surprised there wasn't anything in the transcript that showed dispatch asking Justine if she wanted to speak with the police when they arrived. I have been asked everytime I have placed a call.
