Man charged in shooting of pregnant mom outside Amazon Fulfillment Center in Lakeville

more details... snippets:
O'Neal died of a single gunshot wound to the neck, which transected her cervical spine, charges said.

Police spoke with McCray — O'Neal's significant other and the father of her newborn — "who appeared distraught." McCray told officers he and O'Neal had been in an argument most of the day after she had learned he had another child with another woman while O'Neal was pregnant. Eventually, McCray took a Lyft to his mom's home with all his belongings but then O'Neal came and picked him back up and brought him to work in Lakeville.

When they arrived in Lakeville, McCray realized he had guns in his bags and was worried about making sure they were safe for his kids, so he wanted to "clear" the guns of any live rounds of ammunition, charges said. During this, McCray said he accidentally shot the gun while trying to clear it, hitting the victim in the neck.

However, later on, McCray changed his story after police reviewed surveillance video from the Amazon Fulfillment Center parking lot that showed McCray running alongside the car as O'Neal drove but then she parked in a nearby spot and backed up, pushing McCray backward. McCray told police when O'Neal backed up, he was angry the door hit him and he raised the gun, pointed it at her, and shot her. He claimed he didn't know there was still a round in the chamber when he fired. McCray told police he has taken two firearm safety courses.
The charges say, according to O'Neal's mom, O'Neal was upset with McCray's infidelity, and she had told him when she delivers their baby, the baby cannot have O'Neal's name. The mom said the couple had gotten in a fight the day he shot O'Neal, charges said.

Court records show that 32-year-old Donte Rapheal McCray is charged with second-degree intentional murder. He made his first court appearance Tuesday and had his bail set at $2 million.
If convicted of murder, McCray could face up to 40 years in jail.

Tuesday, Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena issued the following statement. While the family says Kyla’s last name is O’Neal, the attorney’s office refers to her as Ms. Fletcher.

Article said he lost a lost of oxygen and currently no brain activity. If he survives he will likely be badly brain damaged for life. It's incredibly upsetting.

Post-mortem cesarean sections don't have a good success rate. The one person I have known personally who experienced this was a woman I had worked with a few years earlier; I heard that she had gotten married and moved to another state, and died in a car accident but didn't find out until much later that she was 8 months pregnant! The baby was delivered at the hospital, and never did well and lived 4 days.

She was driving home from work and was in a multi-car collision that included a semi-truck. ETA: Her husband was a widower and bereaved father at the age of 22.

RIP, everyone involved.

Honestly if that’s the case as awful as this may sound, I hope he isn’t kept for years on life support and that he’s allowed to be let go with as much love surrounding him as possible.

I also wonder if he's being evaluated for organ donation. I hope he can live on in this way, if he's qualified.

New murder charge filed after newborn died 9 days after mother fatally shot - Bring Me The News

Prosecutors in Dakota County have charged Donte Raphael McCray, of St. Louis Park, with two counts of second-degree murder for the death of 31-year-old Kyla O'Neal and newborn Messiah Edward O'Neal.

McCray, who is being held in jail with bail set at $2 million, is scheduled to appear in court for an omnibus hearing on the amended charges on Feb. 16.

IMO
The more I read the criminal complaint (summary in article above) that I found in court docs, the more confusing it is with their fight that day at their home, him taking an uber to his mom's with his stuff (victim kicked him out of share home) and then victim taking suspect (father of 2 yo & new baby) to work (St Louis Park to Lakeville - about 30 minutes away). His gun was in the car with other stuff. The whole gun handling part is so confusing to me. If victim picked him up at his moms, why didn't she drop his stuff off at that time.

Man Accused of Shooting Pregnant Ex-Fiancée in Amazon Parking Lot Faces Murder Charge For Baby
SBM
A Minnesota man accused of shooting and killing his pregnant ex-fiancée in the parking lot of an Amazon fulfillment center earlier this month has now been charged with two counts of murder.

Donte Rapheal McCray, 32, was initially charged with one count of manslaughter in the second degree over the early January shooting incident in Lakeville, an exurb in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area.

Officers say they then reviewed surveillance footage of the shooting and confronted McCray with what they had learned.

At that point, police say, the defendant’s tune changed.

“[McCray] admitted when [O’Neal’s] car backed up, he was angry that the door hit him and he raised the gun, pointed it at [her] and pulled the trigger,” the Jan. 10, 2023 criminal complaint alleges.

He is currently being detained on $2 million bail. His next court appearance is currently slated for Feb. 16.

IMO
Nothing really new but reminder he has court on Feb 16th in Dakota county.
