There is a renewed effort to find answers in the case of a Mankato man who vanished 13 years ago and was later found dead.

The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office and the Mankato Department of Public Safety (DPS) held a press conference on Tuesday regarding the disappearance and death of Matt Thomas Albrecht.

“Our goal is and has always been to find the truth and provide answers to Matt Albrecht’s family and friends,” Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office Captain Paul Barta said.

Friends, family seeking answers 10 years after Mapleton man's disappearance

Over the decade since her friend’s disappearance, John has joined Matt’s sister, Melissa Albrecht, of Mapleton, for memorial observances and for countless walks along the Minnesota River searching for human remains.

Six months after the last confirmed sighting of the Mapleton man, parts of of his decomposed body were found on land at the southeast end of Mankato, near the intersection of Highway 83 and 22.

Matt had been living with a grandmother in Mapleton when he disappeared. Sandra Danberry said in 2011 that her grandson was rarely gone overnight and never failed to call if he were coming home late.
