Except the head of DHS has repeatedly and firmly said the agents are trained and followed protocol. She is supposed to be the authority who would know.

Therefore, it seems, their training offers no defense.

jmop
Weird protocol, shooting people dead and walking away.

I recall the words of the Minneapolis mayor to people after the first murder by ICE agents in the city: Don't take the bait.

  • #265
Another senseless murder by ICE. Governor Walz should bring in the National Guard because this is too much. Senate Democrats should also vote down the ICE/DHS funding bill that is making its way to them.
Some good news. There are not enough Democrats needed to approve this bs of a bill which needed sixty votes to pass the Senate.

Democrats should shut the government down until we severely cut back funding on this ICE gestapo, and hold those murderers and their enablers accountable.

Do something?

Thousands upon thousands upon thousands of peaceful protesters took to the streets in Minneapolis yesterday in frigid weather with the clear statement, "GET OUT, ICE."

There have been protesters every day in Minnesota.

Minnesotans are sharing videos of ICE tactics all over the internet.

Local elected officials are calling for ICE TO GET OUT. The Governor today called the White House to say, STOP. This is not the first request.

Please don't say people aren't doing anything.

As I type this comment, thousands of Minnesotans are at the site of today's killing - in frigid weather - and have been there non-stop since this morning. They are crying out, "GET OUT ICE."

why out of all these people is it AP who gets killed? Is it random who ICE kills? why didn't they just handcuff him?

Who was Alex Pretti?

Details emerging about the man shot dead in Minneapolis paint a picture of someone who cared deeply about other people and the environment.

Family members were aware Alex Pretti had a legally obtained gun but had never known him to actually carry it.

Working as an intensive care nurse at the Veterans Administration, the 37-year-old had joined protests after the killing of Renee Good by a federal immigration agent in the city earlier this month.

"He cared about people deeply and he was very upset with what was happening in Minneapolis and throughout the United States with ICE, as millions of other people are upset," his father, Michael Pretti, told the Associated Press.

"He felt that doing the protesting was a way to express that, you know, his care for others."

His mother Susan Pretti said her son had cared immensely about the direction the county was headed, especially the Trump administration's rollback of environmental regulations.

"He hated that, you know, people were just trashing the land," she said. "He was an outdoorsman... He loved this country, but he hated what people were doing to it."

Alex Pretti's father said he had talked to his parents "two weeks ago or so" and he had told them that he knew not to "do anything stupid" during the protests.

While he did have a gun, CBS News, the BBC's partner in the US, notes that US Border Patrol officers did not specify if he had brandished it and that it is not visible in bystander videos of the shooting it has obtained and verified.

Family: ‘heartbroken but also very angry’

BY CHRISTOPHER WEBER

Pretti’s family released a statement Saturday evening saying they are “heartbroken but also very angry” and calling him a kindhearted soul who wanted to make a difference in the world through his work as a nurse.

“The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He has his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed,” the statement said.

“Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.”

Lawyers file declaration in federal court from first-hand witness to immigration agents' shooting of a US citizen onlookers today. Minneapolis Mayor Frey said details would be used to bolster case for ousting ICE from city.

Here's the Tincher v. Noem (0:25-cv-04669) case file that this testimony is added to. This latest testimony is near the bottom. The person who testified was one of the people who was videoing during the killing, and the filing indicates that the video was submitted with the testimony.

Site of the crime scene right now, 12 hours after the killing. Temp is -6 F ( which is -21 C).
People are not accepting the ICE behavior. They are doing something, and it's peaceful.

Witness describes moments before shooting
Louis Krauss

Willow Lamar, a manager at Glam Doll Donuts, said they saw the shooting as it happened from inside the store this morning and filmed the video that has circulated widely online.

Before the shooting, Lamar said, agents were chasing someone who they let into the store.

The store had been keeping the door locked that day, and when agents approached the doughnut shop, they did not present a warrant, Lamar said, so they refused them entry.

After that the agents went back to their vehicles, and more federal officer cars showed up, Lamar said.

Some observers later showed up, including Pretti, before the fighting began and Pretti was killed.

Lamar described the entire altercation as “agents acting recklessly, assaulting people who are just there to observe.” Lamar said it did not appear Alex Pretti was ever holding a gun.

A statement from the family of Alex Pretti, obtained by CNN:

"We are heartbroken but also very angry.

Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the hero term lightly. However his last thought and act was to protect a woman.

The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He has his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed.

Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you."

The video shows what looks like an execution by a group of ICE agents.

My opinion.
I agree with your opinion. The man could not possibly have been a threat, lying on the ground, being held down by multiple agents. What could have possibly justified 10 or more shots into his body? I'm at a loss. And then for the feds to post an image of a gun on a car seat....so what? How is this relevant?

Again all of this is my opinion only.

I see no clear evidence of what went down...It's my opinion powerful emotion drives perception in these matters and that is simply not helpful to determining truth.
DHS pre-judgement and (2} Active Cover Ups...
ARE NOT HELPFUL TO DETERMINING TRUTH

A new video circulating on social media appears to show an officer with the Department of Homeland Security clapping as protestor Alex Jeffrey Pretti was killed on Saturday in Minneapolis.

They know what they're doing. JMO.

I think the killings have less to do with the victims and more to do with the people killing them. Undisciplined? Untrained? Unfit?

I believe that Alex Pretti was a victim. And I believe the Federal authorities are killing their own citizens. My opinion is based on watching the videos. AP posed no physical threat. AP tried to help a peaceful protester as they were attacked by ICE agents. And then Alex Pretti was shot multiple times in an overkill situation where he was already 'contained'. We've all seen the videos. This is the evidence that I am basing my opinion on.

I don't know tactics, I admit, but I'm thinking that might be a signal, not a clap. Could it be a way to tell the other officers - okay, this is over, back off?

I can't quite accept it's applause (even after hearing officers say, "F****** B****" and "boo hoo" after the killings).
