MN - One dead after Minneapolis shooting involving immigration agents, US media report, January 24, 2026

That seems to be the question - what happened prior to the shooting that resulted in the shooting. Some argue that everyone has the right to interfere with federal agents undertaking their job duties. Federal law says that there are limits regarding interference. Intimidation is not allowed. Blowing whistles, approaching federal officers to confront them about the job they are doing, swearing, chanting all constitute a form of intimidation.

I don't think there is a question of whether the intimidation interferes with undertaking the responsibilities, but rather whether it exists or not. Is it reasonable to assume that intimidation does not violate federal law if the officer appears to be un-impacted by the intimidation?

If federal officers perceive an environment of intimidation, how does that shift their perspective of protesters? If intimidation of federal officers undertaking duties is a violation of federal law, is that for the safety of protesters and federal officers?

Was this a situation where peaceful protesters were not interfering with federal officers, then officers grabbed an 'observer' man, tackled him, someone said "gun" and then there were 10 gunshots? Was this a situation with heightened emotions, intimidation of federal officers, two interactions between Pretti and federal officers, an apparent altercation between the woman in the white coat and the officer, and the escalation of that intimidation resulted in a really horrific outcome where officers started shooting?

What could have been removed from the equation to change the outcome? Better trained officers is obvious, but beyond that?

In this photo, the officer appears to be pointing while Pretti is standing within inches of him. What might the officer be saying? Please get off the road - move to the sidewalk?

Here, it appears that the taller Pretti is crouched down a little to be at eye level with the federal officer. Why?

Is the woman in the green circle an observer? If so, why is the federal agent turned to look at her?
View attachment 639822

What are they talking about that results in the federal officer shoving her towards the sidewalk? Why is Pretti turned around to pay attention? Is he concerned about the conversation? The officer then shoves the woman in the white coat. She slips on the ice and snow. Pretti put himself between the officer and the woman in the white coat. Then it all went wrong.

I dunno, maybe just maybe because the officer is in his face being a dick? Pretti didn't walk up to or approach this officer. He has the right to film. No matter how you try to spin this, given that he has a right to do what he did, it is not his fault. It's the fault of the untrained officers who pumped 10 bullets into him.

They knowingly inserted themselves into an active law enforcement operation. This was not an organic protest that coincidentally occurred at the same location agents were trying to make an arrest. imo
did the agency advertise ahead of time where they would be conducting this operation? Because if not how exactly was the protest not organic? It's not like radical domestic terrorists sent out a mass email saying go to this area tomorrow at this time because ICE/Border Patrol will be conducting an operation there

IMO People noticed the agents presence and stopped what they were doing or in response to whistles in their general area went to go and observe/film. Again, literally well within the rights of every American citizen to do so.

The encrypted signal messages show that “rapid responders” who are anti-ICE were tracking federal agents outside of Glam Doll Donuts, which is where the shooting happened.

The encrypted Signal messages obtained by Fox News Digital in real time show that anti-ICE “rapid responders” were actively tracking, broadcasting and summoning “backup” around federal agents outside Glam Doll Donuts on Nicollet Avenue, where the shooting happened. Local “rapid responders” made at least 26 entries into a database called “MN ICE Plates” in the critical hours before and after the killing, documenting the license plate numbers and details of alleged ICE vehicles they claimed to see around Nicollet Avenue.

The entry at row 344 read, “At the nicollet [sic] murder,” chronicling a black Jeep Wagoneer at the location with agents allegedly “involved in shooting.” Row 338 had a “Glam Doll Donuts” entry, tracking a black Ford Taurus.

At 9:50 a.m. ET, just before the killing, a user identified as “Willow” shared a 22-second video on an encrypted Signal chat for anti-ICE “rapid responders.”

“26and 3rd,” wrote “Willow,” quickly following up with, “Outside Glam Doll.”

The video showed two agents, one wearing a vest marked “POLICE,” studying the front door of Glam Doll before walking away, past a sign in the window that read, “ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA.”

So, we have the creator of DHS, other ICE officials, various conservative organizations, and many -Republican- politicians condemning this shooting and demanding an investigation. I repeat. Even people that normally stand behind Trump are demanding an investigation and saying that this shooting was not justified.

I don’t think any lawyer would be able to successfully argue that Alex was “obstructing” ICE duties and therefore deserved to be fatally shot.

I know our leaders will be reluctant to grant an independent investigation, but I’m not seeing any other way forward when even their normally fervent supporters are demanding one.

Alex deserves justice.

Undermining a Federal Officer in the course of exercising his duties means their LAWFUL duties. That is a legal doctrine that does not need explaining in the legislation. An unlawful act is NOT the exercising of their duties.

AP came to the aid of a woman who, on the face of it, was on the receiving end of a clearly unlawful act by a Federal agent. And, even then, he in no way interfered with the duties of the agent as he had no interaction with him until the agent interacted with him.

Some of the federal government want to double down, and many seem to view the detention of illegal immigrants as some sort of "war" where they use the word "capitulation" if they withdraw or alter methods. Rather than ask what is the right way to proceed in a democracy, the focus seems to be on popularity, and how to improve it.

"Some in the administration worry that public polling and sentiment has turned against the administration’s immigration actions in cities, and some discussions have centered on how to continue deportations without clashing with protesters, officials said. Trump adviser Stephen Miller has continued to push for aggressive immigration enforcement, arguing the administration shouldn’t back down in Minneapolis.
...

Trump administration officials said they were planning to make a concerted effort in the coming weeks to improve ICE’s image by highlighting what agents are doing in other places besides Minneapolis. Though officials have privately discussed polling showing the public is souring on their operations, many in the administration think that winding down their efforts in Minneapolis would amount to a capitulation to the left, the officials said."

Clinton: “To make matters worse, those responsible have lied to us repeatedly, told us not to believe what we saw with our own eyes, and used increasingly aggressive and hostile tactics, including obstructing investigations by local authorities.”
...

Shortly after Pretti's death, the Department of Homeland Security said that Pretti "violently resisted" disarmament until officers fired "defensive shots." Bystander footage contradicts that version of events."

thank you for the link @BayouBelle_LA

the local affiliate link you shared cites only Fox News as their source for this information. Last time I checked Fox News, being an admitted entertainment and not news network, was still not an approved source at Websleuths. But if you find one that is approved (and not sourced solely from one that isn't) I am happy to read it.

I received approval to link the following video. The white vehicle right behind the incident was occupied at the time of the shooting and this is the driver’s footage. I haven’t seen it in MSM yet, but I’m sure it’s just a matter of time.

Edit: the driver also posted a video right before this one of the events right before this video starts.

Exactly. Nothing organic about it.

All information about this incident coming out of the WH is false. MN Officials and even some Republicans are exposing the misinformation and outright fictions.

Regarding the shooting of Alex Pretti by federal agents, the administration demonized the victim for carrying a gun in an effort to justify the killing. This has led to criticism from gun-rights groups and individuals about the comments about Pretti.

In response, the National Rifle Association called his comments “dangerous and wrong.”

The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus also weighed in with a statement noting that “every Minnesotan” had “the right to keep and bear arms - including while attending protests, acting as observers or exercising their First Amendment rights.”

“These rights do not disappear when someone is lawfully armed, and they must be respected and protected at all times,” it said.

The uber-conservative Gun Owners of America — a group founded by activists who found the generally pro-Republican NRA’s positions too tame — called for a “complete, transparent and prompt investigation” while rejecting the idea that agents were justified in shooting Pretti because he’d been armed.

ICE intentionally walked across the street to confront witnesses, including Pretti:

"Nilson Barahona, another witness, told CNN that he was at Glam Doll Donuts on the same street when someone fleeing federal agents ran into the restaurant. The donut shop staff quickly locked the doors, and when agents couldn’t get inside, they turned their attention to “those who were outside, who had come to help,” Barahona said. Outside the restaurant, Barahona said observers began making noise and blowing their whistles.

A video recorded by someone nearby and analyzed by CNN shows a group of about ten federal agents gathered outside the donut store, while observers including Pretti watch from across the street. About three minutes before the shooting, two officers walk across the street, confronting Pretti and other observers in nearly the same spot where he was later shot dead.

One officer, wearing a dark-colored jacket and light-brown beanie, is seen placing a hand on Pretti’s torso and pushing him backwards out of the street as Pretti records with his phone. “Do not touch me,” Pretti shouts at the officer, adding, “I am out of the traffic… you are the one who is in the traffic.”'

nine bystander videos analyzed by CNN do not show Pretti acting violently or holding the handgun that a federal officer removed from his waistband seconds before he was killed – in stark contrast to Trump administration accounts that he “wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement,” as Bovino put it in an earlier press conference. They also don’t capture any violent actions by protesters, who blow whistles and yell at federal agents.

“I see nothing that Mr. Pretti did that was unlawful,” said Rob Doar, the president of Minnesota Gun Owners Law Center. “The narrative that’s been coming out (of the administration) afterwards, I think is going to have a chilling effect … it’s going to confuse people about the rights that they actually have.”

I don't think anyone believes that lethal force was justified.

The federal officers apparently didn't know what to do when they discovered a legal handgun on Pretti's body, so they started shooting. In my opinion, there is a serious problem with lack of training for the officers, a serious problem with the mandate they were given, a serious problem with the methods for arresting illegal immigrants, and more.
And, IMO, an unlawful homicide (murder 1, 2, 3 or whatever the laws are in MN)??. At least that is a what the perpetrator/s should be charged with. Imo

How is it ok charges are (rightfully) brought elsewhere for eg, against the reckless idiot who shot an innocent cleaner through a door, supposedly out of fear, yet this perp is being given a pass for a summary execution? And this perp is a trained federal agent with much more responsibility for ensuring the safety and well being of innocent citizens than your average joe. Rules for thee but not for me. Alex Pretti did not ask to die, did not deserve to die and is not responsible for the perpetrator executing him. He was murdered and it's recorded. Moo

Unfortunately, those claims cannot be believed without proof by independent observers.

"WASHINGTON (TNND) — A web of encrypted chats and databases show that protesters were mobilized at the scene in Minneapolis, Minnesota, before the death of Alex Pretti.

The encrypted chats, reviewed by Fox News Digital, show that protesters were tracking Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “abductors” and were already at the location where Alex Pretti, 37, was before he was shot."

There is no justification for killing a resident who is witnessing and documenting what is happening on the streets of an American city.

If alerted via an app or whatever, it's because someone witnessed ICE. It's not illegal to witness.

Thanks for posting more evidence of the unjust murder of Alex Pretti. Completely speechless.
