MN - Philando Castile, 32, fatally shot by police officer, 6 July 2016 #2

On all counts huh? What about the child he endangered by firing into the car? Her life doesn't matter, Philando's life doesn't matter, everyone else is calm except for the hyperventilating obviously freaking out police officer who spent time in training for this sort of situation. Everyone else is calm and obedient, yet we're somehow supposed to believe that these people were planning on murdering this cop and had him in fear for his life?

Not surprised though. I hate our justice system. This is utter crap.

Someone died who didn't need to die if the officer had just taken a deep breath, stepped back and FOLLOWED PROCEDURE and that isn't manslaughter?

Oh boy, I can't wait until tomorrow when another genius jury sets Dalia Dippolito free even though she's on camera HIRING A HIT MAN.

Well, it looks like she lost her composure, just like like Yanez did when he fired seven shots into the car because he "thought Philando was reaching for a gun." If anyone decides to judge her for that or consider her behavior more evidence of why the cop was justified in shooting Philando, let me point out that at least no one died as a result of that little outburst.

I can't say I blame her for reacting with anger.

We should hold people responsible for their actions, especially if someone ended up dying as a result of them.

The officer profiled Castile and decided he was dangerous despite evidence to the contrary, such as:

1) He had a four year old in the backseat.
2) He politely informed the officer that he had a fire arm.
3) He was legally authorized to carry a fire arm.
4) He TOLD the officer he was not reaching for the fire arm. In fact those were his dying words as he went into a state of shock.
5) Reynolds told the officer he had a concealed carry license.
6) He was doing nothing illegal. He was pulled over allegedly for "a broken taillight." Although we know the officer pulled him over because he thought that he matched an armed robbery subject, which put him even more on edge due to something Philando could not have anticipated and had NO CONTROL over.

Mother of PC just said she hopes Yanez "die tonight". (Speaking about Yanez facing his maker/ God.) Very emotional, angry. Sister also spoke.

Oh I wouldn't go that far. Yanez isn't the only person to blame. As far as I'm concerned that jury has blood on their hands for not holding him responsible. Juries keep enabling this behavior.

I'm not saying Yanez plotted out his murder and meant to kill him. I'm saying Yanez acted on an unreasonable fear that was no fault of Philando's and he should have been punished for it. I don't see how juries can place so little value on someone's life, especially after watching that video.

We hold 18 year olds who mess around with guns and end up killing someone responsible for their actions. Why we don't hold police officers who are trained for this sort of thing to a higher standard is beyond me.

Letting him off the manslaughter charge bugs me, but that's marginally acceptable. Letting him off on the child endangerment charges is beyond the pale for me. If the four year old had been hit by one of those bullets, would the jury decide that isn't the officer's fault as well?

Sometimes I want to comment but it just isn't even worth it. People will think what they want no matter what.

Thank God. Too bad he didn't do that before he pulled Castile over.

Maybe now he'll get treated for his panic attacks.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Thousands of people gathered on the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol Friday night after Jeronimo Yanez was acquitted of all charges in connection with the shooting death of Philando Castile.

Protesters held signs, banners, sang and chanted in response to the not guilty verdict in the case of Yanez, a former St. Anthony Police officer, who shot and killed Philando Castile during a traffic stop in Falcon Heights last July.

This comment made my heart sink. I think I can understand where she is coming from. Raw emotion. If something were to happen to Yanez? I'm hoping Philandro's family can find some form of peace. Right now I'm not sure they can. I'm hoping the Twin Cities don't destroy themselves in the process.

Dennis Ploussard says the jury was split 10-2 early this week in favor of acquittal for Officer Jeronimo Yanez, who was charged in the death of 32-year-old Philando Castile.

Ploussard says jurors spent a lot of time dissecting the "culpable negligence" requirement for conviction. He says the last two holdouts eventually agreed on acquittal.

Ploussard wouldn't identify the two holdouts, but says they were not the jury's only two black members.

Ploussard declined to say whether he thought Yanez acted appropriately. He says the jury sympathizes with the Castile family.

Ar,ound 1500-2000 people marching in St. Paul on University Avenue. Green line (light rail) shut down partially between several stations. Some protestors spray painted buildinsgs. Most are peaceful, chanting carrying banners. (Per Fox 9 KMSP-- trouble posting link.)

Police have been preparing for weeks/ months for the verdict, and any potential unrest.
