“He didn’t give us the opportunity before he let off a round,” Reynolds said. “He asked us for license and registration. He killed him for no reason.”

If I would have moved while that gun was ou[/B]t, he would have shot me, too.

bbm, looks like the gun was out.

If the gun was out as he was reaching towards his pocket.. ? I don't know what esle he could have done but shoot. jmo idk

Could she be referring to the officer's gun here? IDK

Very well could be? But the lawyer for police officer claims that gun was visible.

I wonder if the gun was visible on his lap or if he had reached for it and had it in his hands.

ETA: Either way, I am not convinced at all that his demeanor was threatening and I am in no way convinced this one was a warranted shoot.

I want to hear the whole story from the beginning. I hope the dash cam video will be released. I also wonder if he was trying to hide the pot rather than reaching for his license and registration. IIRC he was arrested twice previously for possession but the charges were dropped so I would think he or his girlfriend would be moving around trying to stash it before the officer saw it. If so that could've raised his suspicions.

Philando Castile had a valid permit to carry a gun when he was shot and killed by a St. Anthony police officer, a source confirmed to the Star Tribune Friday.

Castile, a 32-year-old school cook from St. Paul, was killed by a St. Anthony police officer during a traffic stop in Falcon Heights Wednesday night. His final minutes were live-streamed by his girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, who was a passenger in the car.

In the video, Reynolds said Castile told the officer, Jeronimo Yanez, that he had a permit and was carrying a gun. Yanez shot Castile multiple times.

“He’s licensed to carry, he was trying to get his ID, his wallet out of his pocket and he let the officer knew he had a firearm and was reaching for his wallet,” Reynolds said in the video as a bloodied Castile lay in the driver’s seat dying.

Although the names of gun permit holders are not public under state law, a source confirmed Castile was issued the permit when he lived in Robbinsdale.

Good point and one I had not thought of.

re: the dailymail article, it is good to establish that he had no criminal record, and it appears he had been pulled over an average of twice a year for the last 14 years for various traffic offenses, imo that is irrelevant to the shooting.

Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. However Ms Reynold stated on her tape that she "yelled" at the officer he had his C something to carry. Obviously Mr Castile had alot of experience being stopped and knowing how to respond to an officer. Only time will bring the real truth out.

more context (and slightly different numbers) for his traffic stops;

http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2016/07/09/philando-stops/

When Philando Castile saw the flashing lights in his rearview mirror, it wasn’t unusual. He had been pulled over at least 52 times in recent years in and around the Twin Cities and given citations for minor offenses including speeding, driving without a muffler and not wearing a seat belt.
He was assessed at least $6,588 in fines and fees, although more than half of the total 86 violations were dismissed, court records show.

“I’m going to stop a car,” the officer says on the recording. “I’m going to check IDs. I have reason to pull it over.”

“The two occupants just look like people that were involved in a robbery,” the officer says. “The driver looks more like one of our suspects, just ‘cause of the wide set nose,” the officer continues.

If any of this is accurate, how did the officer see PC's nose?

They could've passed each other going opposite directions or he could've passed the officer when/if he was parked somewhere IMO. Like I said, I want to know what happened from the beginning.

"This is a tragic incident brought about by the officer having to react to the actions taken by Mr. Castile," Minneapolis attorney Thomas Kelly said Saturday. "This case has nothing to do with race and everything to do with the presence of a gun. Again, it has nothing to do with race, it has everything to do with the presence of a gun."

And there was a 4-year-old girl in the back seat?

Also from your link, something I hadn't considered but it makes sense.

“Police understand the concerns about choices made about who gets stopped and what happens when they get stopped,” said Darrel Stephens, executive director of the Major Cities Chiefs Association.

But the statistics can’t simply be attributed to racial bias among police.

“When people call the police, they provide a description of somebody engaged in a crime. The police respond to those descriptions,” said Stephens, a former Charlotte, North Carolina, police chief. “That counts for part of the disproportionality that we see in those numbers.”

Interview with cop's lawyer.

Some media and blog reports are comparing surveillance images of a recent convenience store robbery to images of Philando Castile, suggesting the officers stopped Castile as a possible suspect. Castile’s girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, livestreamed the aftermath of the shooting on Facebook, saying he was “shot for no reason” after a traffic stop for a broken tail light.

“I can’t comment on that,” Kelly said. “But I can tell you that the stop of the vehicle for an equipment violation was not the only reason for the stop.”
