DNA sample submitted - Tests complete.

Dental information / charting is available and entered.

No additional rule-outs yet.

They've added a new rule out: David Wobig. I haven't heard anything new about David Thies and this UID, but I'm still thinking about it. For some reason the peculiarities in his disappearance have stuck with me.

Wobig's links, for those curious as I was:

I think the DT possibility is fascinating. I drive by the area a lot and was toying with the idea of stopping by and nosing around a bit. Ask some questions...maybe show a couple photos?

That would be amazing, seriously. DT is definitely my "pet case" if such a thing exists. It might be worth it to stop by that Kwik Mart and see if they remember the UID.

From the above article:

Then, “there’s still a few that haunt me,” Wilson said. One of them: A man with a goatee found dead in a freight train that started in Chicago, rolled through Wisconsin and stopped in Minneapolis in December 2003. Despite a “high potential” for identification, 418 potential identities have already been suggested and ruled out. There is still no name to place on his grave at Crystal Lake Cemetery.

418? Wow. Wonder if David Thies is one of them? Maybe time to call / email for an update?

I agree about the contradiction re the long hair that was described. Strange.

This quote and thr sketch are not in reference to our Rosemont John Doe but another found in a freight train in 2003.

Thank you, Damarna! I broke my own rule of reading and writing after 10 PM.
I had just looked at that UID a week ago or so. Only reason it caught my eye!

Would it be possible that he was a runaway who join a MC club? All his items relate to biking. Plus the photo of the weird place on google map could be a meeting point. If he had done something wrong, meet there, get killed and his leather taken away... Just throwing ideas here. :waitasec:

this article says that the shoes are "Mario de Gerard". After a quick google, they look dressy to me.

oh wait. then this one says they were 'badly worn and decomposed'.

Updated 7/31/15. No new rule outs, but was it mentioned that there were that many initials carved into the sheath? I thought the only initials were DHT? Now, several are listed.

Interesting. I'd never heard about this. I grew up in the city next to Rosemount, and went to high school there. I am very familiar with that American Legion, my grandparents lived in Rosemount and we went there often.

I wish they had a picture of the guy. The only person I know from the area is Christopher Kerze, who went missing when I was in high school. He'd be 43 or 44 now. However they found his car up North, so I don't know why he'd come back to the area and live in that shack.

Also I think he was too tall, and didn't seem like the biker type, but he was only 17 when he went missing and if he did run away you never know how his life turned out. I really don't think it's him, I just thought of him because of the area and age. He was from Eagan, another neighboring city, but at the time Eagan didn't have a high school so kids from Eagan went to RHS, which is very close to the American Legion.

David Thies has been ruled out.

At least we know, but I have to say I'm almost sorry I nudged them to confirm.

Thank you so much for being diligent and getting confirmation on this. I'm glad to see that there are rule outs being added and work is being done to find this man's identity. Very sad to know he and David Thies will both remain mysteries for now.
