Media Release: Stewartville High School Incident (Dec. 12, 2025)

On December 12, 2025 at approximately 5 a.m., dispatch received calls of a person shot in the parking lot of Stewartville High School located at 440 6th Avenue Southwest in Stewartville, Minn. Deputies were immediately dispatched and responded to the scene. Deputies learned that two people had been shot. Deputies, school staff, Stewartville First Responders, Stewartville Fire, and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service (MCAS) responded and provided medical care. A juvenile male victim was transported by MCAS to the hospital and went into surgery.

The initial investigation revealed that a bus was in front of the school getting ready to transport the wrestling team to a meet. One of the teammates was walking in the parking lot when a gun shot was heard by others. The victim was located on the ground in the parking lot. As other staff and students were looking around, another gun shot was heard. An adult male was located laying on the ground with a rifle in his hand. This subject appeared to have a self-inflicted gun shot wound. This subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A reunification Center was setup with the assistance of Stewartville school staff. The students were reunited with family as soon as possible. Additionally counselors and chaplains were on scene to offer assistance.

Per the victims’ family’s permission, he is in the hospital and listed as critical but stable condition.

The Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with both families of the involved parties. They have been cooperating with the investigation.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the events surrounding this incident, to understand what took place and provide answers.

Our condolences go out to everyone impacted by this incident. We also ask that everyone give those impacted time and space to process and be with their family and friends at this time.

Those poor kids, they had to witness a teammate and friend get shot! The poor families! There just seems no end to these tragedies! IMO

Sadly, this shooting hits close to home for me. I have a close family member who goes to this school. Because it was IMO a targeted shooting and very early in the morning, they were safe at home. Praying for the young teenager who was shot and all affected by this tragedy.

As far as I can tell this didn't make national news and I'm glad for the injured child.

This shooting is all over social media.

I'm very thankful the student is alive, but want to know why a adult man targeted/shot him at school.

Custody issue, maybe? Or domestic violence? My first thought was of Luke Batty.

At 18 you're an adult so maybe they used to be classmates? I don't know- just thinking out loud.

During a press conference Monday morning, Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson identified the gunman as 19-year-old Logan Moyer, a 2024 graduate of Stewartville High School who had competed as a wrestler. Torgerson emphasized that Moyer had no affiliation with the current wrestling program as a volunteer or coach.

The shooter was identified as 19-year-old Logan Moyer, a former student of Stewartville High School. He was not a coach or paid member of staff at the time of the shooting, Sheriff Kevin Torgerson said Monday.

Law enforcement confirmed that the student was still in critical but stable condition.

Moyer’s obituary states that he began assistant coaching for the wrestling team in his senior year of high school.
