A woman's body was discovered Friday evening in rural Olmsted County.

In a joint press conference, authorities said 28-year-old Tia Mercedes Arleth was found just before 6 p.m. near County Rd. 2 and 70th Ave. NE. in Haverhill township.

Arleth was discovered after a person mowing tall grass adjacent to a corn field saw a tarp with a human arm sticking out the side.

The condition of the body was in an advanced state of decomposition making it difficult to determine the identity of the victim.

"That probably is the number one reason what's making it so difficult right now. It was frustrating on the front end for us to try and identify who we had before we could start trying to look at possible motives or suspects," Capt. James Schueller with Olmsted County Sheriff's Office said.

Law enforcement is calling both the condition of her body and the location it was found "suspicious in nature."

When discovered, authorities said the condition of the body was in an “advanced state of decomposition.” After an autopsy didn’t yield information, the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The BCA was able to recover partial fingerprints.

On Tuesday, authorities were able to identify the victim as 28-year-old Tia Mercedes Arleth. She was reported missing to the Rochester Police Department by her mother on June 12.

The death is considered suspicious, authorities said.

A friend remembers Tia, who she says "She said she went by "Tia Peace" for a reason because "all she wanted was peace and love."

RIP Tia Peace, and wishing her family and friends find comfort in her memory.
