Body of missing woman discovered in Whitfield County, investigation underway

WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. — After more than a year, a person of interest in a Whitfield County missing persons case comes forward to tell authorities where she says the body was buried.

The tip led crews to recover the body of 39-year-old Christine Medlin Wednesday morning on Novella Drive Northeast. She had been missing since March of 2017.

Whitfifeld County Sheriff Scott Chitwood says the suspect, Amy Duckett, came to the sheriff's office Wednesday morning and said "I need to get something off my chest," and then told investigators where the body was located, in a shallow grave and wrapped in a tarp.

Sheriff Chitwood says suspect and victim were romantically involved.

Duckett is charged with making false statements, concealing the death of another person, and hindering law enforcement officers. Chitwood says more arrests are expected in the case.

Woman pleads guilty to concealing death; had led authorities to grave of girlfriend

District Attorney Bert Poston said Amy Gale Duckett was sentenced to seven years in prison followed by three years of probation and will be referred to Mental Health Court upon release from prison.

Duckett's son Kurt Emmett Duckett was also indicted for concealing the death of another. Poston said he pleaded guilty in December and was sentenced to three years of probation.
