Tough case to look into without knowing circumstances/ details and no photo...

I want to bump this case up, because he was only 19-years-old, and 1988 wasn't *that* long ago.

But I can find nothing else about his case. It doesn't feel like anyone is wondering where he is.

Makes me wonder if he is a case of "known" misadventure/accident. Or could he be alive and well, maybe aged-out of foster care and took off, so a case was opened, but he wasn't considered endangered?
Just some theories.

If anyone does find anything else about his case, please add to the thread.

Anyone with subscriptions to newspapers.com or to ancestry.com ? The latter allows you to search yearbooks.

If Timothy was 19 in May 1988, that means he should've graduated high school in the spring of 1987 (or 1986, if early?). I tried searching Ancestry with these parameters, but I can't see the results since I'm not subscribed. Also, this assumes he's from Minnesota. He could have just moved there to attend one of several colleges in the area.

Hi, my name is Asa Lange, and I would be Timothy's nephew. Occasionally I search around for information about him but I had never found this place before. I made an account just so I could say how grateful I am that anyone has brought his case up in all these years since, and because I feel I should clarify as much as I can, which I will attempt to do now:

The only details I can remember about the day Tim went missing are from what I heard when I was pretty young, but they are that he went missing during a hunting trip and may have run away. Please don't take that as fact though, just fuzzy details from old memories.

Timothy Winter's parents are both still alive, and though I still regularly talk to them we have never really talked about Tim. They had one other child, Joshua Winter, who tragically took his own life when I was nearly too young to remember. Having lost both of their children, I assumed it would be best to never bring it up and focus on the life we still have, but I am starting to think differently now that they have advanced so much in age. That, and years ago they did say they would always be willing to talk about such things with me.

I'd like to thank the people of this website for their efforts both in this case and others, my spirits were lifted when I saw this thread. I will endeavor to learn what I can from my grandparents about Tim and the day he went missing, even if only to gain a little more clarity.

Hello @Asa_Lange and welcome to WS.

I am so very sorry to hear that the Winter family incurred a second tragedy with the loss of their other son Joshua. How very sad. No parent should have to go through that once, let alone twice in a lifetime.

Please consider becoming a verified user. I am sure the mods can help you with that. Becoming a verified user would allow you to talk freely about Timothy without having to refer to any official news sources, this would be very helpful seeing as there is not much info currently available on him.

If there's any way you could help find a photo or any more information, I am sure the lovely folks here at WS would love to assist you and your family in any way possible.

Wish we were talking under better circumstances, but we are here to help nonetheless.

I don't want to be insensitive and hope these questions are okay.

I wonder if his parents have submitted DNA to police so it can be checked against any John-Does?
And whether he could be added to NCMEC (missingkids.org), because from what I can find, they list missing kids up to age 21-years-old, and he was only 19?
