When the video is slowed down enough that you can clearly see the sequence of events, is it really an opinion? I don't necessarily think he should have shot but I can understand what led to him shooting. He has a split second to react to a vehicle that has gone from reverse to forward and he's in front of said vehicle. I've already said once that since she was in reverse he most likely wasn't thinking or expecting her to put in drive and try to drive away as he was walking in front of the vehicle. I also don't think she expected him to be right in front and panicked.

The problem with that is that shooting the driver does not stop the vehicle.

In the aftermath, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem said the woman had committed an act of “domestic terrorism,” first disobeying officers’ commands and then weaponizing her SUV by attempting to “run a law enforcement officer over.” President Donald Trump said the woman “violently, willfully and viciously ran over the ICE officer.”

A frame-by-frame analysis of video footage, however, raises questions about those accounts. The SUV did move toward the ICE agent as he stood in front of it. But the agent was able to move out of the way and fire at least two of three shots from the side of the vehicle as it veered past him, according to the analysis.

Video taken by a witness shows Renee Nicole Good’s vehicle, a burgundy Honda Pilot SUV, stopped in the middle of a one-way road in a residential area of south Minneapolis on Wednesday morning. That footage and other videos examined by The Washington Post do not show the events leading up to that moment.

The agent, who has not been publicly identified, can be seen standing behind Good’s SUV, holding up a phone and pointing it toward a woman who also has her phone out. The two appear to be recording each other.

A pickup truck pulls up, and two additional agents exit the vehicle and approach Good, the video shows. A voice can be heard saying to “get out” of the car at least two times. One of the agents puts a hand on the opening of the driver’s side window and with his other hand tugs twice quickly on the door handle, but the driver’s door does not open.

That same agent puts his hand farther in the opening of Good’s window, and almost simultaneously, the SUV begins to back up.

The agent who was first seen behind Good’s SUV reemerges in front of the vehicle, still appearing to hold up a phone. The SUV quickly pulls forward, and then veers to the right, in the correct direction of traffic on the one-way street.

As the vehicle moves forward, video shows, the agent moves out of the way and at nearly the same time fires his first shot. The footage shows that his other two shots were fired from the side of the vehicle.

I had to take a break from the coverage of this because it’s just so upsetting, but I just watched Noem’s press conference. All I can think of is this quote:

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” - Orwell​

As others have said, everyday I hope is a tipping point to people waking up to what’s happening around us, and I hope people watch those videos, the government’s response, and truly see this for what it is - state sanctioned murder. There is no world, at least in my opinion, where this is okay or justified.

Justice for Renee Nicole Good, for her children, and for what’s happening to our country.

I know from a decency and moral standpoint there is no "both sides" on this one. From what I have read about the legal standpoints, from those far more knowledgable than I on these pages, there is no
" both sides " legally.

I live in a world of gray, but I see only black and white on this one. You either stand with what is right and honest or you twist yourself into a pretzel to make it make sense in some alternate universe.

The easiest way to find where you truly stand in your heart of heats and logically, is to ask yourself if that had been your wife /daughter/loved one - where do you land?

Make no mistake, this is a defining moment for all of us here in the US, personally and as a country.

I've been reading comments by Americans on other sites. The number of people cheering on and justifying the ICE agents' actions today is very hard to see. I'm Canadian and can't believe what's happening in the USA these days. Aside from a few thousand people in very conservative Alberta and Saskatchewan, the last thing we want is to be the 51st state,

It seems like the FBI will be the sole appropriate agency at this point:

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) – the state’s top investigative agency – announced today that it would be withdrawing from the investigation into the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis by a federal immigration agent.

In a statement, BCA superintendent Drew Evans said the investigation would now be “solely led FBI”, noting that that federal authorities have blocked BCA from accessing “case materials, scene evidence or investigative interviews necessary to complete a thorough and independent investigation”.

Evans added that without “complete access to the evidence” BCA would have to “reluctantly” withdraw from the ongoing investigation.

Are we surprised? We all know who is controlling the narrative. There will be no investigation. If some honourable FBI agents try, their conclusions will be hidden. I'd bet you $1,000 American dollars on that.

My Oma was a POW in WWII. It’s grim, but I thank god she is not alive to see this. She loved America so much for saving her. I don’t know if she could handle seeing what we’ve become.

SCOTUS ruled that reasonable force cases must take into account the totality of the event, not just the moment of force. He cannot create his own danger by moving TOWARDS the vehicle and then claim it is reasonable for him to use deadly force.

So it’s not really appropriate to say ‘he only had a split second to make a decision’ when he could have made other decisions BEFORE the use of force that would have kept the (perceived) need for deadly force from happening.

ICE agents have been specifically reprimanded by their own department for stepping in front of vehicles, and for firing into vehicles. This agent knew not to put himself in the position he did, and knew he wasn’t supposed to take the fatal actions he did, but chose otherwise. This wasn’t a bad and impulsive mistake; it was a calculated and illegal action. He has no right to claim he didn’t know any better.

Only that he was not dealing with a criminal who had nothing to loose. He was dealing with someone who just accidentally drove into that mess. A passerby, basically. The ICE dude had no reason to assume she was anything more than just a panicked person.

If someone is as unable to assess the situation as this dude (and as trigger happy), they should have not be armed.

You nailed it. My Mom is German and lived through WW 11. She told me how the population was manipulated and how hatred and fear was implemented. First slowly, and then with a faster pace. This is the beginning of the faster pace phase. Just my opinion.

Sadly, this isn't the defining moment. The tipping point happened years ago when our elected officials and law enforcement at all levels refused to hold certain people accountable for clear crimes. This is the result. It's not going to end, it will only get worse IMO. The mechanisms to stop these types of abuses failed long ago.

It's been obvious for months, and we - outside of the US - wondered when someone would take action stop it. It is now too late.

Even if you could try to justify shot 1, there’s really zero justification for shots 2 and 3.

ETA: even less justification to deny her care when there was a physician on scene & block the ambulances.

Are we surprised? We all know who is controlling the narrative. There will be no investigation. If some honourable FBI agents try, their conclusions will be hidden. I'd bet you $1,000 American dollars on that.

Any investigation that needs to get to the bottom of this horrific incident must be independent. For Trump not to allow the state access to records that are required to fully investigate this case, reeks of a cover-up; sorry. I cannot imagine any president not allowing a full independent investigation of such a horrific incident.
