ICE agents have been specifically reprimanded by their own department for stepping in front of vehicles, and for firing into vehicles. This agent knew not to put himself in the position he did, and knew he wasn’t supposed to take the fatal actions he did, but chose otherwise. This wasn’t a bad and impulsive mistake; it was a calculated and illegal action. He has no right to claim he didn’t know any better.

Especially since he's apparently been in a similar situation before - being dragged by a vehicle.

It’s been the MO of a lot of ICE agents, to the point that it had to be put into writing in their own handbooks NOT to do exactly what he did. Apparently this goose stepper either didn’t bother reading or didn’t care.

Youre right he could have not shot but I'm not going to try and guess why he did. When you're walking in front of a car that's reversing and suddenly they are in drive and you see or hear the front tires spin you have a second to make a decision. He very easily could have taken that as she was trying to run him over. He has to make that decision instantly while we get hours and days to Monday morning quarter back his decision

One more time, shooting the driver does not stop a vehicle. How is that so hard to comprehend? If the ICE agent was truly in fear of his life because he was standing in front of the car and thought she was going to drive at him, then shooting the driver almost guarantees he gets run over.

When the video is slowed down enough that you can clearly see the sequence of events, is it really an opinion? I don't necessarily think he should have shot but I can understand what led to him shooting. He has a split second to react to a vehicle that has gone from reverse to forward and he's in front of said vehicle. I've already said once that since she was in reverse he most likely wasn't thinking or expecting her to put in drive and try to drive away as he was walking in front of the vehicle. I also don't think she expected him to be right in front and panicked.

Well let me think this through..in your scenario...if he had not had a gun in his hand ..best odds are he would have just stepped away from the vehicle and there would not have been an incident. She was not going more than 2 miles an hour.
It was his emboldened ego pulling the trigger .
The driver was being told to leave by one agent, another agent grabbing her door handle etc - ICE created their own chaos and what was she doing wrong driving down the street?

How do we explain him walking away signalling" lets get out of here" with out calling for aid and staying on the scene as federal agents are required to do?

How do we explain ICE not allowing a doctor tend her as they watched her bleed out ?

They tried to lie and say she crossed state lines with intent to protest because she had Missouri plates. In reality, she had just moved from Missouri.

It is wild the levels we are seeing of trying to paint this innocent woman as some kind of ‘professional agitator’.

Why couldn’t DHS just have said ‘We are looking into this incident.’ Why the attempt to portray her as a ‘domestic terrorist’, a term they’ve also seemed to throw at any kind of observer or protestor exercising their First Amendment rights?

They know this wasn’t right. They are in CYA mode.

Anyone sees that the agent is 100% damaged goods and they need to drop him like a hot pie, punish, admit to “one bad apple”, do all damage control. Instead of protecting him. He looks either like a maniac or a dangerous idiot on that video and I don’t know what’s worse.

When the federal government started sending ICE agents to various cities around the US, there was no good reason. There were no violent protests that needed federal intervention.

What it did establish is that ICE agents, a federal military, was deployed to major cities around the country, and local authorities were obligated to cooperate with those federal military agents.

In my opinion, it is a dry run for a time in the near future when those federal military agents will be deployed to major cities to oversee or control elections, and other state-based governance decisions.

As an American, I am absolutely worried that our midterms will not be certified, and that ICE will be used to ‘handle’ any protestors simply demanding our votes are heard.

But you seem to be saying his supposed perception that she was going to hit him made his shooting reasonable. If the car was aimed at him taking out the driver prevents any chance of the car stopping. Shooting is objectively the wrong thing to do in that situation, and thus not at all justified even if you are correct about his perception.

Excellent post and I agree -- even as I also am having to take a break from this one.

This was, IMO, as much a murder as the cleaner shot through a door for having the temerity to try a lock on the house she was expecting to work at that day.

In that case, however, we had a prosecutor who was willing to tell the truth about what had happened, even if the why proves to be more elusive (and troubling).

i think that's an overstatement. the guy who shot the cleaner was in a situation no reasonable person would consider threatening, had plenty of time to think and react, skipped every opportunity to avoid violence, started shooting as a first resort, and still had a locked door protecting him from the "home invaders" when he started shooting.

this ICE guy had a car at least brushing past him, and which might well have clipped him if he hadn't moved to the side. i think any reasonable person would consider that to pose a threat of bodily harm. ever had a car moving that close to you? ...when you weren't expecting it? no barrier between him and the car. no time to explore alternatives. there is the problem that he had stepped out of the way of the car before he started shooting, contradicting the premise that the shooting was still necessary when he did it. but the defense will likely argue he didn't have time to register the passage of danger in the short window of time it all happened in, and some jurors might agree.

imo, it's still unjustifiable as shown by the facts that he steps toward the car while he's shooting into the driver's window. the car he is supposedly afraid will run him over if he does not shoot. that looks like an angry execution, not self-defense. then there's the conflicting orders and the guy clearly not following procedure. .... but i would not say it's as black and white as the cleaners case.

In my opinion - the VP is delivering propaganda to portray the shooting of an unarmed, frightened woman in a vehicle as a justified murder.

Trump has deployed the National Guard before in response to protests as well, and used them as an occupying force in cities to threaten protestors. Anyone who remembers Kent State knows what that means. He’s been feeling for the right federal fist to support him for awhile now.

He keeps going on about dude was "doing his job". Which, yesterday, was apparently getting an ICE vehicle unstuck from a small snow bank.
While on the way to storm through a high school a few blocks away. And yes, they still did that, even though one of their own had just murdered an innocent civilian.
Is uncontrolled anger and rage a pre-req to be an agent?
Sure seems so.
