A few minutes of video circulating doesn’t give any of us a clear understanding of the entirety. I want all the details. Including what transpired prior to what we’ve been shown and what’s been in MSM.

Go to the Washington Post article I posted earlier and tell me how this isn’t an agent of ICE shooting into a vehicle of a protestor without justification, and how this doesn’t directly violate what his own agency told him in regards to his actions.

According to the administration, at least when this started, his job was to apprehend the worst of the worst criminals in the country illegally. They were on their way to a high school, so their job is apparently pretty open ended now.
And knocking ‘door to door’ as VPOTUS said - as though they have no other way of finding illegal immigrants without violating countless citizens Fourth Amendment rights in the process. Shameful.

What do you think could have happened prior to the video we have that would justify the shooting?

I’m not sure. One possible scenario would be a threat onto others. I’m not saying that happened just hypothetical.

Have a great day everyone

I have read that and I’ve read other articles as well. Some articles point in one direction and others point in another.

I don't think you will get anything but self-serving "facts" from this administration. It may be time for common sense and critical thinking to step in.

Their impetus for defending this murder is that they purposely hugely increased the capacity of ICE so they could arrest as many brown skinned people as possible. They don't like people observing their antics and reporting on them. I suspect Renee was doing just that.

imo

If she had done something that justified this *other* than simply being in the road way, don’t you think DHS would have said what it was already? I’m struggling to understand what you’re looking for here.

They treated her like a dangerous fugitive they needed to apprehend. There was no reason to be so aggressive and confusing with someone whose car was on the street wrong. The situation could've been handled calmly and professionally.

Whatever happened before doesn't matter, except perhaps it annoyed the agents. (And I don't know what happened, but maybe whistles, taunts, and videotaping? Maybe someone shook a sign in their direction.)

If agents are so easily rattled on a residential street by a few civilians on a weekday winter morning, I question their fitness for service. They shot a civilian in the head - how is that bringing safety to the city?

We know she was unarmed. What sort of threat could justify being summarily shot in the head some time later?

ETA. I'm very curious as to what type of threat would make it ok for our government to execute a citizen without even a hint of due process.

well i think the car is the weapon here

but AIUI the argument "One possible scenario would be a threat onto others." only works if the threat is imminent. like she's about to run into someone else. it can't just be a vague, future threat. "this person seems dangerous to people in general. let me take them out now as a preventive measure." that's not justifiable homicide.

edit: and of course there's the whole question of whether shooting an allegedly murderous driver makes anyone in their imminent path safer.

Why else would you park sideways on a one way street?

To get clear video - have clear observation - while remaining in the used-to-be safety of your vehicle. I think I already said that.

imo

Im wondering if she had stopped to let her wife out of the car? Her wife wasnt in the vehicle when she was shot, and it appears she was on the street, she also been quoted as saying she made Renee go there. Is it possible that she was pulling away from doing that?
I am certain somewhere in this thread I have seen it written that she had stopped when an ICE vehicle sped past, but call that my opinion as I dont have a link right now on hand.
It does seem that she tried to leave as soon as the agents told her to move, and she had waved them around, so I dont personally think she was attempting to block the road.

I urge folks to protest for their beliefs and against tyranny. But don't get into petty squabbles along the way please.

Another article about the shooter, Johnathan Ross. He was based out the the ICE St Paul field office.

The car as the weapon doesn't work IMO when she was parked and stationary for several minutes before ice approached her

You are correct. The gray ICE car zoomed past her, she was yielding to ICE. Then they yelled at her to move, which is what she was in the process of doing and instead of letting her obey their command, they lunged at her car door attempting to open it, she pulled away, heading toward the right, when the other ICE agent shot her, and chased her car, shooting her several times. This is cold blooded murder, and the shooter needs to be brought to justice. JMO (based on video evidence)

Makes me sad to see us at such odds in this thread. While I disagree with the opinions of some of my fellow members, I hope we can continue to discuss this case in a respectful way without piling on one another. Because that IMO just shows that the divisive tactics we see so frequently in our online world are effective and I'll be damned if I will be a part of the problem, our world has more than enough of those. The vitriol has no place in civilized discussion.

I think I have said my piece here and so will step back for now, until there is something new to discuss.

you could make a similar argument that a gun isn't a weapon when it's not loaded and drawn. as soon as a car is in gear and moving, it's quite easy to kill someone with. i don't think it's controversial to say that cars can be used as weapons, and IANAL but IIUC they can be considered weapons for legal purposes.

Live on CNN there is a bad clash between ICE agents and protesters. They're firing tear gas pellets or something and their weapons are drawn.
This isn't good.
IMO.
