Kirksville residents charged in alleged abuse of 2 children

Three Kirksville residents have been arrested and charged with multiple counts of child abuse after a toddler was found unresponsive at their residence.

Derrick Barnby, 25, Aireal Cole, 23, and James Lamb, 29, each face at least two counts of abuse or neglect of a child under their care.

Probable cause statements state that the call was made for a four-and-a-half-year-old girl who was reportedly unresponsive at the home.

The girl had several bruises and other physical injuries.

Court records reveal that a medical professional caring for the toddler noted she had brain injuries, including altered mental status and bleeding in the brain, as well as multiple cavities. She was also severely malnourished.

All three defendants are being detained at the Adair County Jail without bond. They have a court date scheduled for Friday.

the second child in the home had severe diaper rash indicating neglect. in addition, the four year old girl had severe tooth decay including multiple cavities. poor babies.
