MO - Alexis Phillips, 11 mos, starved to death, Ft Leonard Wood, 20 Feb 2008

I feel sorry for the oldest daughter.

She would remember the earlier baby being found in the basement (or heard talk about it). It would have been a significant event because her mother went away for awhile. Also when custody of Kirstin's other child was given to the natural father, she would have lost the sibling she'd been raised with.

The older daughter couldn't give the baby a bottle when she was locked out of the room. It doesn't sound as if the mother would let anyone touch the baby to help either.

I can understand why the 14 year old didn't know what to do. I am sure her mother was telling her not to let anyone in the house. Who would let anyone in with it being so filthy? I've seen shows and documentaries about people whose "dirty secret" is the filthiness of their homes. I think they do whatever they have to do to keep people from finding out.

That little girl had already had her mother "sent away" before and had a sibling removed from her home. I don't blame her for being afraid of alerting an adult or authority. My understanding is that she WAS the one to call 911 in the end. I think she had to defy her mother to do it.

I don't think that child should be criticized.

She must have been VERY scared for Alexsis to have called outsiders for help.

I don't know what the hell happened here. The woman's myspace seems so centered on her family. However, if you look close, there is one picture of her baby, I think the one who died, in which she looks as if she is starving. It's the one in the montage under her general interest in which the drop down letters say something to the effect of "What big eyes". Take a look and see what you think. Perhaps this woman went psychotic. But, one new article I saw said the baby had bruises and scald marks. I don't think abuse like that can be explained by psychosis. It comes from anger, not a mental split. People who have mental splits may become so psychotic that they cannot care for their child, i.e., can no longer do what is necessary to maintain the child's life like feeding, taking to the doctor, etc.. But physical abuse is not explained to me by insanity. It takes anger and is just evil.

I saw that picture too and thought the same thing. Her little eyes were bulging out like a starved person.. I think I read that the scald marks ended up actually being from diaper rash so bad not being treated. The myspace page really brings that old saying ''you can't judge a book by it's cover'' to light doesn't it? I think this lady is just completely mentally disturbed for real.

since mom had seizures is it possible the wee little one did too? (I know nothing about seizures - can one die from them?)

According to the indictment, the forensic pathologist, that did the autopsy, said the baby died from starvation, dehydration and the septic infection from the diaper rash. It also said the baby was malnurished which I think means this wasn't the only time Alexsis wasn't fed.

Mygirlsadie interpreted the indictment, the way I did, it sounds as if what was first thought to be scalding upon further investigation was a festering, septic diaper rash. I did see some references to bruising too.

I wonder if the bruising is why she was charged with murder and possibly facing life without parole or worse?

I also agree that this is a book that can't be judged by the cover. And I am still not sure what was going on with Kristin.

On the surface, from what happened, Kristin has to be mentally ill. But, she was able to pull herself together enough to win her military husband. It looks like the family at one time went to the beach and to places together.

It looks like Kristin was able to care for babies when her husband was there.

I wonder if the husband knew about his wife's previous history in Illinois?

Part of the sentence Kristin received after the first baby was found dead was in-patient psychological treatment and continued counseling. I wonder how long she stayed with the counseling?

It sounds like Kristin was troubled for a long time. When she hid the previous baby in a box, she'd had 3 children by 3 different men and was only 23 years old.

But, it sounds like she was able to pull herself together when she had to. She got through the counseling and probation, remarried, had friends, was able to put together a myspace page and appear to be a regular mom on it.

Another one of Kristin's children died under suspicious circumstances in Peoria, IL almost 10 years ago.

The 14 year old who was in the house when baby Alexsis died may have been one of the toddlers living with Kristin when the baby in Peoria was found in Kristin's basement.

At that time the father of the other toddler living with Kristin took the child that was his.

I have links to Kristin's arrest warrant, a picture of baby Alexsis (the baby would have had her 1st birthday 2 days ago on the 17th), a picture of Kristin and her husband and info about the previous baby's death on my site:

OMG, I live in Peoria and I have never heard of this before now. Granted, I was 18 or 19 when the previous baby was found but I think I would have remember hearing about that.

Oh no - I understood what the wee babe passed away from, I was just wondering if seizures can be "inherited" and if one could die from them...I'm Sorry, I should have clarified my posting more :bang:

Was going more with the thing if there were any other causes of a seizure other than epilepsy, ie - could she (mom) have been in shock?

Kristin Marie Phillips appears to be still in pre-trial detention at the Phelps County Jail.

The Phelps County Jail is located in Rolla, MO and houses Federal, State and local inmates. The jail houses mainly non-convicted inmates. The jail is run by 24 correction officers, 4 transport officers, 3 admin staff and is complimented with its own medical personal and kitchen staff. The Phelps county jail houses between 80 to 170 inmates at a time.

Emphasis mine.
