It's on the news in Kansas City, but nothing really new.

I guess the 18 year old lived alone, and the 14 year old was over visiting.

The only thing that a neighbor mentioned in an interview that I didn't see in the article was that they were stabbed in the neck.

Found a good article. This has pics of those poor girls.

Garrett Mason, 17, was sitting on the curb waiting when police arrived and was arrested shortly afterward, officers said. He was charged late Monday afternoon with two counts each of first-degree murder and armed criminal action.

The parents of the Leyva girl, Steven and Danielle Stephenson, could not be reached for comment. A man who answered the phone at the home of Reed’s parents, Robert and Carol Reed, of Nevada, said he did not wish to speak about the matter.

I wonder if this 🤬🤬🤬 was living with his parents.

Prayers for the family and friends of these two girls.

In two days, Kylie M. Leyva planned to celebrate her 15th birthday with her father and other relatives in Riverside, Calif. Instead, those relatives are coming to tiny Nevada, Mo., for her funeral.

At the time, Leyva was visiting Reed’s apartment located at 618 North Cedar St.

Two hours earlier, Leyva’s mom, Danielle Stephenson, said her daughter called home saying she was having fun watching movies with Reed.

Mason was escorted into court Tuesday by sheriff's deputies but did not enter a plea to charges of first degree murder and armed criminal action.

As Mason entered and left the Vernon County court on Tuesday he did not react to anyone, neither the families of the murder victims nor to his own family.

They have another guy in custody, Leviathon Dipman helped Garrett Mason stab 14-year-old Kylie Leyva and 18-year-old Anne Reed on May 24, 2009.

Both charged with the same charges. They also say that there may be more arrests later.

I don't know what motive has to do with this. Most Prosecutors will say the victims family may never know why it happened. What does matter is that they have enough evidence to convict.

It really isn't a burden that Prosecutors have to meet to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt but it is very logical that people do want to know what the motive could have been. Human beings are very inquisitive.

While DAs don't have to enter a motive ......in all the cases I have seen they do enter some type of theory knowing the jury is made up of human beings who will also question why.

The jury will be told though during jury instructions that motive doesn't have to be proved because really unless the killer(s) confesses no one knows why they did something this horrible but them and even then we dont know if they told the truth or not.

Maybe these two just wanted to know how it felt to kill someone. I have seen that motive before.
