The people posting over on topix were IMHO making up rumors about Breeann's Daddy based on his race. I was so hot when I read that crap I had to sit on my fingers. For real. JMHO
Why. Why. Why. This precious baby girl was just playing out in front of her own house. Man---I might have to take a break after this case, sometimes I do that, I have to step back and focus on other things in my life because it just tears me up inside to see all these babies and children murdered.
I'm puzzled by the "armed criminal action" charge. Anyone take a guess?
I definately wouldn't blame the parents either. My God, they're going through enough right now and have to live with the *what if's* for the rest of their life. But as an aside, I chose not to be a helicopter mom/smother my children when they wanted to do age appropriate things. At 3, and even a few years after- I was a smotherer. Not to say that my way is the way...just that at 3, most toddlers are just grasping the whole potty training thing. No baby, no family deserves this.
I can't find any fault with the parents with what we know. He very easily could have stolen her from her bed...it's been known to happen and more than once. I don't believe it's realistic to be with our children every second anyway and it appears he had a very small window of opportunity and took it. Sheltering our children keeps them innocent to the dangers out there. I think stranger danger is much more affective. If we are with our kids every waking moment they will be the trusting teens that are kidnapped at the mall or after school and I also believe that more sheltered children are the ones who do the more dangerous things as they get older.
The parents are victims in this tragedy. Children should be able to play in their front yards, ride their bikes, and kick up their heels without fear of being murdered. This was a small town, in a closed neighborhood, where everyone knew everyone. A child outside for 5 or 10 minutes should NOT RESULT in murder.
Parents should not be expected to smother their children in order to keep them safe. AND BLAMING THE PARENTS IN THIS CASE IS NOT GOING TO BE ALLOWED.
From all appearances, they were very loving, caring parents and they do not deserve to be taken to task.

AGREE WITH YOU 100%. Even teaching this child about stranger danger wouldn't have helped...thiswas a neighbour, a familiar face, for all we know he could have been a friend of the Rodriguez, many neighbourhoods have bbq's and parties.
My sister lived in a cul de sac and had several kids in the neighbourhood. All the parents watched out for others, they all played in the front yard and in the middle of the cul de sac. All the kids would go inside others houses when invited in, everyone trusted everyone. It was a small town as well.
No one is to blame except for thewho did this. It is easy for some to blame the parents, but I feel they did nothing wrong but love her and trusted her neighbourhood in her small town.
You hear of other cases where it ends up being the step parent, the Ex, the Priest, the teacher, the babysitter....all people who a 3 yr old and parent would trust. This just goes to show...you really never know who someone truly is and what they are capable of!!!!
If he confessed (confession a rumor) to strangling her and that was what brought about the murder charge then where does a weapon come into this? He certainly wouldn't need a weapon to abduct a 3 yr old.
I don't know why I'm so boggled by this, sorry you all.
Thank you for posting this.
I'm going to go to bat here for children and for their right to be children!
A three, or five, or seven, year old (etc etc) human being has the right, to ride their bicycle in their neighborhood, or play in their front yard, or even go to a neighbor's house. Unharmed.
IMO, seeking to change the behavior of the children is the wrong tack. Shouldn't we (as a society?) instead be looking at the predators???
For those who have a hard time wrapping their heads around this, think back to 9/11. What if, after that tragedy, the response had been "people shouldn't travel in airplanes" or "people shouldn't work in hi-rise buildings"???
But nooooo, we went after the terrorists. The aberrations. We came up with new ways to find and track and yes, profile (touchy word!), them.
People kept flying and going to work.
And, I believe, children should keep doing kid-things.
What I propose is that we start thinking of new and innovative ways to identify and stop these "terrorists" (for that is what they are) who prey upon our children. I wonder what would happen if we spent as much time and $$$ and effort on this project as we did as a nation after 9/11?
