Found Deceased MO - Brian Byrd, 50, lawyer, drove away from home, Lake Ozark, 10 Jul 2022

  • #21
Oh-oh, apparently Brian missed several court appearances.

Brian Byrd, 50, is a local defense attorney and has not been heard from since Sunday evening.

“What makes this kind of out of character is that him being an attorney, he has regular appearances in court and he missed several court appearances, which is completely unlike him,” said Sergeant Scott Hines with the Camden County Sheriff’s Office.

Following

These several court appearances...were they scheduled this week, since Sunday? Or did he miss any before his disappearance? If he did miss others, it could be significant to his state of mind.....severe pressure for example.

I've been looking at maps too trying to figure out any possible destination. I can't find any social media profiles for him or any family/friends posting about him on FB, but I am often terrible at finding that so it could certainly be there and I'm just missing. Read through MSM facebook post comments as well for family comments and didn't see anything other than a few people who have known him in the past but nothing stuck out to me that would give any info as to his normal behaviors and if this fits that. I did find his law firm via google, and it's in the opposite direction of Passover Road, so doesn't appear that was his destination.

I'm also VERY curious as to the surveillance that caught him entering that area- if you look up the street view for Passover Road, especially in context of the "All About Boats" Marina turn-off (Ponderosa Road), it's mostly residential/rural, winding roads, as the majority of this area is. I'm not sure I'm describing it accurately, but after thinking about it a bit more, it struck me as odd that they would have surveillance video so quickly with his car on it, unless someone in the area knew to check for it specifically, like he frequented the area, etc. By this I mean- LE (or an acquaintance?) must have had some reason to know he was in this area and subsequently check homeowners/business security cams, because it's not somewhere that's going to have CCTV or tag-readers every 20 feet or anything like that. Likely not even traffic cams anywhere as there are very limited traffic lights unless you are in a more commercial area. (I'm a frequent visitor to the Lake of the Ozarks and have family in this area.)

It's all a bit puzzling for certain.

I'm not at all familiar with the area but I thought it possible they (LE) first checked major bridge traffic cams. 'Just a guess. I have no idea how large the bridges there might be... it was just my thought when looking at the map. Or maybe the person reporting him "missing" had an idea of where he was headed and LE opted to withhold that info from the public. I also wonder if he was struggling in some way... work, emotionally, ??

I can't get this link to open but it's possibly a problem on my end.

ETA: I think I found it... I think the news agency just made a typo (june/july), and later corrected.
Oops! I’m not sure why it won’t open and I can’t figure out how to repost the link, I apologize.
And yes, there was that typo on one of their posts, but also another post from the same news agency (prior to the post about the car being found) with much fewer comments (with his original missing poster), and a commenter said she knows him, and last date seen was actually Tuesday in the area where surveillance saw him.

Interesting!

All I found was this:

This one is bugging me. Why is there so much silence??? Not just with family, but media as well.

Perhaps family/friends/colleagues are aware of difficulties, and LE has agreed to privacy?

I tend to agree. The last news report about him seems to have been 3 days ago... and nothing since (AFAIK). I hope he's found soon, though.

I agree completely. I more meant that I’m curious as to how they knew to look for him on surveillance. The majority of people I know with surveillance cameras don’t check their footage unless something is missing or they want to see who’s at the door, or if they receive some kind of motion alert. The location where they caught his car on surveillance is quite a ways away from his house and I wondered how they happened to see him and identify him on the surveillance at that location… unless they were expecting him there or tracked his phone or car electronically.
Maybe they tracked his location via phone or his car? MOO

I didn't see this addressed, but court hearings or appointments are almost always scheduled in advance. Sometimes months in advance, depending upon what the hearing is.

Found deceased in his car. An autopsy is scheduled.

On Monday, detectives from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and the Osage Beach Police Department responded to Lake Regional Hospital where they located missing local attorney Brian Byrd’s black Lexus. Byrd’s body was found in the backseat of the vehicle.

Wow, wonder how long the car had been there? There is at least one parking garage at that hospital but, if memory serves, it's only two stories (ground level parking and an upper level).

Backseat of his vehicle. I suspect he did not put himself there.

Very tragic ending. :(

Perplexing factors (hospital parking/backseat)

ETA: Is the hospital located in the Passover Road area?
