Where did you find the info on why his sister was murdered? She was nine years older than him according to a picture of her gravestone online, so was 20 when he disappeared. I'm surprised it took investigators so long to possibly link his murder to his sister's husband, and sister, as they both died in 2000, but maybe it had just not been mentioned publicly or, more likely, someone came forward. Maybe his sister never spoke up as she feared for her life, but she ended up being killed anyway..

I cannot find the actual articles anymore, only the text of them mentioned on a discussion page about Missouri, but the author does cite the publication, date and article titles:

Man wanted in killing of 4 commits suicide in Wentzville

A man wanted for killing four people in a mobile home in Troy, Mo., was on the
phone with police Saturday when he killed himself with a high-powered rifle on
a grocery store parking lot near Wentzville, police said.

Robert Leonard, 36, had called the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department and
threatened suicide Saturday afternoon. Deputies called in the Wentzville Police
and the Missouri Highway Patrol to assist. Police approached the man at 5:55
p.m. while he was parked in the Wentzville Market Place shopping center. The
man looked up at a Highway Patrol helicopter overhead and shot himself, police
said.

The couple were not divorced, but she
apparently was with another man, Johnson said.

The gunman shot his wife and her boyfriend, along with another couple who were
visiting the home at the time, Johnson said. Three of the victims were dead at
the scene. The fourth died at a hospital in St. Louis County.

The five children, all 9 or younger, were staying with relatives.

The sheriff’s office believes somebody associated with Charles’s late sister, Joy Henderson-Leonard, and her late husband, Bob, knows something. Lead Investigator Capt. Wade O’Heron tells FOX 2 that Joy and Bob were married when Arlin disappeared......“There’s a sense of urgency for us to at least reach out to known associates....To see if during their time, during their relationship with Joy or Bob, if there were ever any statements made in reference to Arlin’s case.”
